It is a tradition in my husband’s family for the grandmother to make Christmas stockings for the grandchildren. I have 4 young grandchildren and I am late in making them. The ribbon would motivate me.

I have some new stockings in progress for my husband and I. The pattern is from ‘A Change of Seasons’ by Bonnie Sullivan. I won’t be entering them in your challenge though because I’m Canadian.

I love making stockings. I’ve made them for all of my kids and grandkids. My daughter has a set I embroidered with each of their names on it that she hangs on their fireplace mantle every year.

In the 50’s, my mother made felt stockings decorated with felt appliqué, sequins and beads for the four of us kids. She later made one for each of our spouses and then for our children as they came along. Now I have my stockings and made one for our son-in-law and then for the first granddaughter four years ago. Our second granddaughter needs one so that is what I will be doing this year…with felt, sequins and beads. Thank you, Mom, for starting this lovely family tradition.

No new additions to our family year so need to make new stockings for my family. However, I plan to make a few for our local women’s shelter. I think they need a little festive in their lives.

I have been made a great-grandmother this past October 20th for a new bouncing baby boy of 7lbs and 8 oz. He will need at least one Christmas stocking and it will be embroidered with his name and CHRISTMAS 2018 so he can get a new one each year with a new year on it. I can’t wait to decide which of the patterns I will do. They are all so cute.

I will make Christmas stocking for an “Alone Lady” in our area. She has suffered losses of 2 family members & her faithful dog Holly. Surely, she cannot have anything else happen. We will have her for Thanksgiving (if she wants, if not we will serve it at her home). I am sure there are many like her, we just need to look for them.
    Thank you for this chance.

    November 15, 2018

Our great-grandma made us Christmas stockings one year that were little red cowboy boots with a Santa face on them for my little boys, an “argyle sock” for my husband and a pink “button up” ladies’ boot for me. These were all perfectly made out of beautiful, clear-colors felt fabric. This was about 55 years ago, and all four stockings are still in perfect condition. Brings back sweet memories when I unpack them each Christmas.
