Amy Barickman, Sewing With Nancy guest, posed a challenge. Use one easy-to-sew pattern with the goal of seeing how many fashionable designs we could create. I love a challenge—so the stage was set for a sewing duo. You’ll be introduced to the remaining three creative jackets in this posting. (Review last week’s post if you missed it.) Then, you’ll be able to watch the TV show on your favorite PBS station, online, or on your iPad, iPod Touch, or iPhone. Here are the three remaining jacket inspirations!
Look #4—Single-Layer Sensation
It’s easy to change the look of a pattern, when you begin with a simple palette! If you have a fabric that looks as attractive on the right side as it does on the other right side, consider eliminating the facings and bringing the traditional wrong side forward. The sewing steps are extremely easy when you know the sewing tips!
Look #5 of One Easy Pattern–Six Terrific Looks showcases the facing of the pattern. Destined in the past to be quietly tucked to the inside of a jacket, the facings now take center stage. Flipping the facing to the outside, with serged edge detail, adds a pleasing vertical line, much like a princess style without the work of seaming. Flip and Serge Facings are an innovative designer approach.
Look #6—Elegant Embroidery
Tone on tone detail is one of my favorite designer touches. Subtle color variations give an elegant look. Combine the understated thread color choice with sophisticated embroidery and the streamlined jacket takes on a totally new look.
All six of the jacket/coat styles are found in One Easy Pattern–Six Terrific Looks, a book/pattern/DVD combo.
Would you like the opportunity to win a book/pattern combo of One Easy Pattern–Six Terrific Looks? Write a post, telling me which of the six options is your favorite. A random winner will be chosen next week. By the way, thanks to all of you who voted last week. It’s been fascinating to read your reasons for choosing one style over the other!
