Sewing With Nancy 30th Anniversary Blog Giveaway EventLast year I met with my director Laurie Gorman over lunch to discuss what we should do, if anything, to celebrate Sewing With Nancy’s 30 anniversary on TV. The two of us decided to let the anniversary quietly pass. After all, we’re Midwesterners. When in doubt, take the back seat.

Several weeks later we cast aside our inhibitions and decided to make a big deal out of the anniversary. We learned that David Letterman and The Wheel of Fortune are also celebrating 30 years on TV this year. Those respective programs wouldn’t sit back without notice, so why should we!

Grins, Giggles, and Guests

This week and next you’ll be able to watch the celebration. Our 3oth Anniversary Special, a 2-part special, was recorded in June with a studio audience—something unique for Sewing With Nancy. Special guests were invited, old videotapes were dusted off, and video montages were compiled. Wait until you see 30 years worth of hair styles, fashions, and topics!

Rehearsal

Gail Brown, Natalie Sewell, Mary Mulari, and Eileen Roche were invited to appear during the anniversary special as they’ve all played a key role over the decades, bringing a unique approach to sewing, quilting, and creating.

Sewing With Nancy's 30th anniversary special

I had planned my segments with each of them months in advance, but a rehearsal was definitely needed. Having an audience on site changed the playing field for everyone. June 13th was a full-fledged rehearsal. We rehearsed, then rehearsed again!

The rough edges were smoothed out and the rehearsal audience laughed at all the right places!

The TV show should really be called Sewing With Nancy, Donna, Pat, Laurie, Deanna, Lois, Leslie, Greg, Willie, Kurt, Lynn, Brandon . . .  You get the idea. Thanks to the crew at Wisconsin Public TV for all they do to make the show come together.

I still crack up when I remember seeing Nancy at Sew Expo in Puyallup, WA when she told one of many of her hilarious stories….someone sent her a romance novel because “Sewing With Nancy” was mentioned in the book! Thanks for the laughs. (I also still laugh thinking about the “makeup” back in the day….blue eye shadow and really rosey cheeks.)

I remember many favorite segments as it is my Saturday morning routine to sit and watch the show with my first cup of coffee every week. Thank heavens they invented the DVR so that when other plans interupted and I had to leave my house early I knew I could tape and watch the show when I returned. Thanks for 30 years of great shows!

My favorite Nancy memories where watching the show with my mother. We would sit there together in total awe watching new sewing techniques or learning about new notions. After i got married, our conversations would be “Did you see Nancy?” If not, my mother would demonstrate what new idea using a pape towel or napkin. I remember the first time we saw Nancy talk about a Bodkin. Our eyes lit up and my mother said “That Nancy is so clever!” We ordered one of course. Thank you for 30 years of inspiration, teaching and fond memories!

I’m new to Sewing with Nancy and Nancy Zieman. Ladies from the sewing club I belong to recommended her saying “she and her show are a must”. I’m trying to teach myself how to sew and finding Nancy Zieman’s shows on line and on You Tube have been invaluable for me. Thank you for sharing your humble spirit and God given gift of sewing.
    Sincerely,

I love them all, I have learned so much. One particular show you used material to make a scene, it was birch trees. It looked so real.

Now I DVR all of the shows so I can go back and r-watch. Recently I made 6 diaper bags and used some of the tips on your purse segments to enhance and make the sewing easier and faster.

I’ve watched “Sewing with Nancy” for almost 30 years. My favorite was the garment sewing. I learned tips and tricks I still use. But my favorite is the show you did with Tula Pink. I love her new and fun style of quilt making. You seemed to be so engaged with her new ways too. Thanks for the practical shows and the new and inventive shows. Also I love the segments at the end telling us about how sewing and quilting reach across cultures.

I wish our local PBS still carried your show. I miss it. One show stands out for me. It was about inserting zippers. I was making a pair of pants and had just noticed the zipper was in backwards! The zipper insertion was much easier after watching your demo. Thanks

All of Sewing with Nancy episodes are just great! Hard to pick a favorite. I do enjoy Nancy’s Corner, where we learn about projects that others are working on, opportunities to give back to the world with our sewing abilities. Thanks, Nancy, for many years of fun and learning! You, your guests and your crew are doing a remarkable job.

I remember the first show I saw, not so much what Nancy was doing but just the fascination of seeing her on TV, sewing and loving it. I watched every movement of her needle then went out and bought that machine. Still have it, my workhorse and I love it. Nancy, you have been my friend for 30 yrs and I am pleased to be in your company. 30 more!

    November 13, 2012

I’ve watched pretty much since the beginning of your show. We were married 31 years ago, and I remember watching as a newly wed and getting some great ideas. However the most memorable moment was the episode you did on landscaping quilts. It opened up a whole new way of looking at fabric for me. Recently, I entered a quilt square contest in our state, and using the techniques I learned from that show, I created my quilt square. I was selected as one of the winners! Thank you for 30 years and sooo look forward to more and more!!

Wow – to pick one memory is too hard. I have been watching the Sewing With Nancy show since it first appeared on my PBS station. I know there are tips and tricks I use all the time today that I learned from watching the show but they are so a part of my sewing routine now that I don’t remember when I didn’t use them. I probably could go back and look at the episode titles and look at them again but suffice it to say they all have left me with something new to try or reinforced something I already did.

Oh my where to start? I loved the serger episodes so much that I ordered the workbook. I loved the series on scarves but I guess my favorite memory was meeting Nancy at the Quilt Expo in Madison. The projects are classics and seem to never go out of style. Heres to another 30 years!!

I have only been watching since 2008, every Saturday morning. I love everyone of your episodes, I really can’t just pick out one. You are one of the reasons I am a quilter today. My mom is the main reason, she’s the one that introduce me to quilting and sewing and your show. She kept telling me that “you can quilt too”. When I saw your column quilt I had to make it, and I did that afternoon, after the show. I love that I can go and watch your shows online. Thanks so much for all that you do and have done for me.

I cannot remember when I first started watching Sewing with Nancy. It seems as though I always have. My favorite shows have been the tote bags and purses. I have made many now for myself, friends and family and have even taken them to Christmas bazaars to sell. I have learned to sew watching the show every week. I hope the show never ends!

I have watched and my girls grew up watching also. We just love you Nancy! It is impossible to pick one memory. I have always been amazed at how the items you made were so crisp and professional. I especially enjoy the alterations you show us how to do because that is what I always need serious help with. You make everything look so easy. the embellishments you add to your garments are always so pretty. Well I have to stop could go on all day.
Congratulations to you for 30 years!

I remember growing up and my Mom never missing a show when I was a child. As I grew and learned new skills, your show nurtured and assisted in my development. Then when I was 17 an event happened in my life that paralyzed the right side of my face. You faced the world every time you stepped in front of that camera and gave me courage to keep showing up when deep down inside I just didn’t want to. I have learned so much from you and all of your guests. But, with everything I have learned over the years, clothing, making my own patterns, how to take measurements, and copy cat patterns have been invaluable to me. You inspire, thank you.

Thank you for such a great show. I’m still learning my way around a sewing machine and your show really helps me in my quest. One of my favorite moments on the show was when you showed how to use the yo-yo’s to create really cool designs on a pillow. I finally knew how to use those little suckers. Thanks again!

I have learned so much from watching your show. My favorites are your quick, easy sewing techniques. I really miss the tips segments you use to have in your mailbag segments. I also like your pivot and slide methods. I’ve used these many a time and it sure beats the slash method. Thanks for all the years of great sewing and serging!

It was learning applique techniques with Mary Mulari. I could never master the satin stitch edges before then. Those embellishment techniques go a long way to personalize gifts, add humor and bling! And the friendship between Nancy and Mary was evident to everyone! When you sew with your friends life is good! ♥

My very first memory of Sewing With Nancy was after I quit my job to have my first baby. For Christmas that year we purchased a VCR that was capable of taping on VHS tapes. We also had signed up for cable tv that had the PBS shows on it. The first shows I taped were Sewing With Nancy, so that I could watch them over and over again. That was back in 1983 and I have watched them ever since. And that baby just celebrated her 29th birthday on Nov 2. I love all your shows and try not to miss any of them. They are all very “memorable” to me. Congratulations, Nancy! Please keep them coming for many more years.

I crave more of your shows but for some reason I am not able to get as many as I would like because of work restraints or other reasons. I love everyone I have viewed but I do remember there was one recently that showed how to construct a purse using fusable web or interfacing. Loved that idea.

Wow! It would be impossible to choose one. Each one I watch reminds me of something that I have forgotten, and gives me inspiration to continue to do what I really enjoy doing…Sewing, whether home dec, quilting or fashion. “Sewing With Nancy” also inspires me to try new techniques. Thanks for your years of inspiration.

It’s hard to choose a favorite because I have learned so much from Sewing with Nancy–in all areas of sewing. The serger episodes helped me immensely in learning how to use my machine in various ways. Thank you for teaching so clearly and effectively. You are a gifted teacher, Nancy!

I have been watching “Sewing with Nancy” for years. I have recorded many of the shows and watch them several times. I always learn something new. I particularly like the series on landscape quilts which I had never done before. I hope you are on PBS for many years to come!!

Like most, I have been watching Sewing with Nancy for years. I think my favorite episodes have to do with serging. It is amazing what the serger can do!

I have been watching Sewing with Nancy for more years than I can remember. I have learned so much from Nancy. My favorite recent series has been on using sewing machine feet. I have misplaced the bag of feet that came with my machine because I never knew what they were used for. Now the top of my to-do list is to find that bag and give them all a try. Thanks for doing this for the last 30 years – it has meant so much to me.

I have watched Sewing with Nancy for years on our local PBS station. I watch on Saturday morning with my coffee. Not too long ago my granddaughter (3 1/2) was staying with us. It was Saturday morning soon time for the Nancy show rolled around and my granddaughter said “Time for G’ma’s coffee and sew show.” She curled up with me and watched as Nancy created purses. She kept asking if I would make one for her – of course I will. I think she may be one of your younger fans.

I have been a Sewing With Nancy fan for all the 30 years. I still have the first sewing notion I ordered from her 8 1/2 x 11 sheet of paper which is the multi-purpose tube and point turner. I have been to 26 of the Sewing Weekends. One of my nicest memories was having my picture taken with Nancy for her 25th Anniversary and again for her 30th Anniversary. I have watched all her programs and have always gotten a new tip or learned a new technique from her shows.
I have watched Nancy’s Notions grow from her kitchen on an 8 1/2 x 11 sheet of paper, to a catalog, to Sewing with Nancy on TV, and to the store she has now in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin.
She is truly a remarkable person who had a vision and has done great things to promote the Sewing Industry and has a huge following.
My Congratulations to Nancy on the 30th Anniversary of Sewing with Nancy.

I started watching Nancy on TV when my girls were small and I wanted to learn how to make them clothes. I guess it would be sometime in 1989 and since that time I’ve continued watch Nancy and read her books. I’m no where near an accomplished sewer but I’ll continue to watch Nancy’s show and read her books.

I have watched Sewing With Nancy for many years, and I have learned so much from Nancy, one thing I do remember is the teaching of how to put binding on a quilt. I have had trouble with that, but Nancy makes it look so easy. And I have tried and I get good results from it now.

Thank you so much, I learn something every day when I watch the show. I have told my Grandchildren when they stay with me, that I have to have the tv so I can learn to sew. Because there is always tips that help me on every show.

Congratulations on 30 years of teaching.

Since I am a sewing teacher, my favorite Sewing With Nancy shows usually involve quick and easy sewing projects suitable for beginner sewists, especially the ones that appeal to kids. In fact, Nancy’s final segment has inspired me to offer a “Caring Creations” class to give the sewing newbies a chance to “make one, give one” so they can experience the joy of helping someone in need with their new sewing skills. Thanks.

I was thrilled when I found Sewing with Nancy. My girlfriend was a long time fan, and introduced me via some books. She even made the trip out to see the store. Now I receive the catalogs, have my collection of sewing tips, and look for Nancy’s tips and products. Thanks, Nancy, for inspiration, motivation, and providing direction for the art of sewing!

Getting to finally meet Nancy in person in Springfield, Mo will always be my favorite memory. My Mother-in-law taught me to sew and gave me one of Nancy’s books to use when she wasn’t around. My Mother-in-law has since passed away but I brought my trusty book I’ve had since 1992 and got Nancy to sign it. She’s such an inspiration to all of us!! Thanks Nancy!

I have learned so many things from Sewing With Nancy, it has been such a joy. Mostly being a quilter I specially liked the shows with Natalie Sewell that taught me how to do landscape quilts and I found my niche. Many quilts later, I thank Nancy for all her inspiration.

Watching Nancy goes way back into my childhood. I remember sitting there watching every Saturday morning so excited to see what she was going to make that day. I also remember as a young child going to her shop in Hartford WI all the time and just standing in awe, while I looked at all the amazing creations. Nancy is a big reason I sew today. Thank you Nancy for all the wonderful years you have put in. Congrats!

I have watched SWN since the beginning. I love the quilting segments but watch every show because I always learn something new. Its so helpful to see the notions that Nancy uses because when I see how they work, I order them and know they will be useful tools for me too. I was thrilled to be able to meet Nancy in 2010 and 2012 at the Quilt Expo in Madison – truly an honor to meet my TV friend. Thank you for 30 wonderful years!

Favorite memory: oh my, there are so many, hard to choose. As I think about it, I do want to say how much I appreciate the show. Watching all the sewing lessons is a huge benefit and hard to remember them all. So I purchased Nancy’s Book: Sew with confidence. It is a wealth of information. I have referred to it a often. Thank you, Nancy and “Congratulations” for 30 years of “Sewing with Nancy”.

I enjoyed the sweatshirt to jacket shows, but, have to say, the general, all-around information and hints are what brought me back, year after year. Then you blended into quilting, and you got my attention all over again! I feel like we are old friends. Your style of teaching is just about perfection, simply easy to understand and FABULOUS results. Looking at the above show titles brought back such good memories.

    November 13, 2012

You are wonderful! I don’t know how you do it year after year and keep up the creativity. I think my fondest memory must be my first. I had to stay up late waiting for my husband’s late plane from Europe and I needed something to keep me awake. I couldn’t believe it – I actually found something I liked. It was like a friend was in the room with me. Then to top it off, I actually learned something even though I had been sewing since 5th grade. I requested your catalog the next day and have been in love ever since. There isn’t anything that I can’t find there. Congratulations on a job well done and for all your perseverance. That alone is amazing!

I miss your shows on Sundays due to Church so really glad for your blog on the internet. You came to the ASG Annual mtg a few years ago and it was great. I really enjoy all the sewing information(am a retired Home Ec teacher) but even more seeing Nancy put herself out there with all the confidence of life. Nancy, you set a great example for us all. You are beautiful, inside and out!

    November 13, 2012

Well, I am pretty new to Sewing with Nancy, being based in England. So I’d say my best memory is finding the programmes on the internet about 18 months ago. I’d guess I watched 10 shows straight through the day I discovered them! I have learned so much – especially that I CAN sew successfully, and I refer the to shows over and over when I get stuck. I now have a notebook to remind me of which episode showcases which technique, and I have passed along the good news to my friends and family so they can share the experience. Well done Nancy, and all at Wisconsin PBS – keep it coming!

I have learned so many things over these years. Most of my recent favorites are things I can make for gifts and re-purposing things. I have and continue to use ideas from the show. Since I work and do not have a sewing group per se, this is my weekly sewing group meeting. Thank you for sharing so much knowledge.

I have been a big fan of Nancy’s for over 20 years, my husband knows her just from the sound of her voice. I enjoy all the quilting programs, I’m not much on general sewing. But your instructions are very precise and I can use them just from taping your shows. Keep up the good work and CONGRATULATIONS on 30 years, WOW.

My favorite memory is that I used to put my kids down for a nap and during that quiet time I would watch Sewing with Nancy. It used to help me relax and get calm so I would be ready to go again when the kids woke up. I would also learn a lot of things too.

My favorite memory was when I first started to quilting. I was nearly in tears with my mittered corner and the quilt I was making was for my child that was to be born soon. I walked away from the quilt and decided to watch some T.V. I am not sure if the show that was on was Nancy’s show or a show she was a guest on, but I turnedon the TV to a show and Nancy was there showing how to do a mitered corner. My unsung wish was answered. I watched the show intently, went back to my quilt and low and behold the mitered corners were completed and beautifully done waiting for my baby to come home in.
Thank You Nancy for all your wonderful tip, hints and gadgets over the last 30 years. I have truly enjoyed your show over the years and your products are always top notch.

I am fairly new too “Sewing With Nancy” but I do love to watch it whenever I am at my job and it comes on. I don’t have tv at my own home. I always learn something new, I am still pretty new to the whole sewing, quilting thing but love to make things when I can. I loved the whole idea of the books and the quilts that were made to represent the books. What a great way to introduce young ones to quilting! Congrats on 30 years!

I love sewing with Nancy! I’ve been watching for years. Now that I am on disability, sewing has been my lifesaver. I love every aspect of sewing, researching projects, picking out fabrics and patterns, I love the creative process. However, being on a fixed income has limited me on purchases. How I would love to win some sewing notions, or threads, anything would be great. My favorite shows are about sergers. That is how I learned to use my machine. I have learned so much from Nancy over the years, without her I would not be sewing. It is hard to pick a favorite because, Nancy you inspire everyone who watches your shows on sewing and quilting, Thanks you for all the years!

I remember the episode where Nancy explained that she had had Bell’s Palsy. I remember waking up one morning and not being able to shut my eyelid or close my mouth tightly as I brushed my teeth. I remember the sheer panic that overcame me. I wish I had seen Nancy’s episode before I had contacted Bell’s. However, I remember thinking how wonderful it was that she was sharing this so that others would be aware and perhaps someone would be spared the panic I had gone through. While its not sewing related, it was the most memorable for me.

My best friend and I have watched “Sewing with Nancy” for the past 30 years. What fun we had taking so many ideas/techniques and using them to upgrade our sewing skills; with them we created many wonderful projects. Regrettably, I just lost this true, dear sewing friend and your show will always be a way to connect to some great times and keep her memory alive. She loved “Sewing with Nancy”, it was the highlight of her (our) week. Thanks for many, many good times and memories. You are truly a blessing to the sewing community and a great/gifted instructor! Congratulations on your 30th Anniversary. I wish you continued success in the years to come.

I, too, like so many others have been watching Sewing with Nancy for almost all those 30 years. Many books, tapes, dvd’s waiting to be reviewed. However, I did make the giraffe so our grandchildren could measure how tall they grow each day, month, year 🙂 Thank you for so many enjoyable years of teaching us various techniques along with your many guest sewers. What a beautiful family. Happy 30th!

About six years ago, my daughter wrote a letter to Nancy about sewing for 4H. My daughter was 13 at the time. Nancy read her letter on the air. I replay that episode frequently! My daughter was inspired to continue to see and win several 4H fair Grand Champions. She is in college now and earns money by making tshirt quilts. Thanks, Nancy!

Wow 30 years & I’ve been a faithful viewer for those 30 years. We got our first VCR so I could tape Sewing with Nancy . There was a major crisis when my kids were little & I taped over Robin Hood to catch Sewing with Nancy as I had no clean tapes. I was privileged to finally make it to Beaver Dam this past May for the 3 day Sewing Event. It was fabulous . Meeting Nancy was the highlight . It was a bucket list item come true.
Thanks Nancy for 30 years of wonderful memories & learning experiences !!

I have a lot of wonderful memories from watching your programs but one of the things that I got a kick out of is how it filtered to my children. On the horrible day of 9/11, my son arranged getting the supplies and then showed other students(including international students) how to make simple rosettes of patriotic fabric at Knox College (illinois) to show support. Although not strictly sewing, our son was aware of the use of fabric to support, unite, and comfort. Thanks Nancy!

I learned to sew in 4-H, in the 70s, and soon found Nancy on TV. I collected many of Nancy’s books, patterns, and show recordings (on VHS!) I remember learning how important it was to press each seam and meticulously finish edges. These tips help me finish two wedding dresses and become a lifelong sewer. I still sew but mostly do my own alterations. I’m thankful for the Sewing with Nancy episodes I watched all those years-congrats Nancy and crew!

I have watched Sewing with Nancy for SEW MANY years. Now I am retired and getting into sewing, quilting and new to machine embroidery with a passion. My favorite segment is always the last – I learn so much and have fun at the same time! She is definitely my MUSE and Facilitator. I shop her web site often. At a local fabric store recently, My husband kept asking me if I had this or that tool. I smiled to say “Yes, I have that, saw it in a video at Nancy’s Website!”

Overnight my active life changed five years ago, found myself under doctors care and in intense pain. I sought “something” to keep me going mentally and stumbled upon my PBS station program “Sewing with Nancy”. I could focus on the technical aspects of sewing, explore light and dark color families, and ‘new’ rotary cutters. I borrowed a sewing machine and supplies and created my first simple quit for my grandson and with pride, still in pain, presented
it. Six quilts later, I am still in pain and still watching. Thank you, Nancy & all the staff, for throwing me a lifeline. mw

Thank you, Nancy, for being my sewing teacher for the past 30 years! As with most everyone else, I have enjoyed all your shows for so many years that I could not possibly choose a favorite and have many happy memories of watching your show with notepad and pen in hand to take notes.. I do know that watching one of your serger episodes inspired me to purchase one after you introduced me, through your show, the versitality of a serger. I love that you are now online as a resource whenever I need to refresh myself on a technique. May you be with us for many more years!

My favorite Sewing With Nancy memory is a little different as it is not from the tv show.

My favorite memories come to life when I am using my 15 Anniversary Sewing with Nancy Pfaff Creative 7570. It belonged to my best friend, who introduced me to sewing and embroidery. She passed from cancer 6 years ago, and I inherited many of her sewing items. So, every time I use this machine I think of my friend as well as Nancy.

Our PBS station no longer offers any sewing shows and I have contacted them with no response. I learned everything I know by watching sewing with Nancy and really feel betrayed by my cable provider that they no longer show your show. I love received the mails and can particpate in your blog. I watch the videos on my computer,. but it is not the same as having you in my living room on the TV. I live In Ocala Florida and my PBS is from the University of florida.

I have watched Sewing With Nancy for many years. I enjoy all the tricks and techniques that you show. I especially like the series on Fancy Footworks. Instead of using the “G” or the “N” or daring to use the zipper foot, I dusted off those extra feet that came with my sewing machine. I learned how to make perfect topstitching, as well as, attaching elastic with ease. Thanks for the great programming, and happy 30 years!!!

I love watching Sewing With Nancy. Hate to miss it. Even this past Saturday when shopping at Mall of America with my daughters I tried to find SWN on TV….of course I didn’t. Can’t remember how long I’ve been a fan, but hope to be for another 30 years.

I have enjoyed your books for years, and only in the last few years was I able to view your PBS shows. I have been sewing on the Singer machine my grandmother gave me for high school graduation 50+ years ago. I used to make clothes for my three oldest children and recycled them to the three younger ones and then just did repairs for years. When I first saw your shows, and found out how many new notions and many easier ways of making such beautiful things. I have been improving with getting many books and DVDs on many basics like elastic, thread, stabilizers, Fancy foot work one etc. I also have been developing a wish list and I am saving to get a new self threading serger. I have on old one and your trick for threading is very helpful, but I really want that one that is done with air.
Last summer when one of my grand-daughters was visiting I was able to help her start to sew. Using the paper glue stick to hold the fabric together was such a help for her, since she didn’t need to stick herself with the pins. Thanks Nancy. I look forward to your shows and am again excited about sewing new things. I plan to make the flat iron travel accessory for my all the girls in my family. I need to get started on this project immediately after Thanksgiving. Thanks for all your help.

I have watched your show since ’82, even when I didn’t have a sewing machine. Over the years I’ve admired your persistence in teaching us such a variety of techniques and at the same time introducing experts in the field. I especially have been inspired by the sweatshirt makeover shows. Thanks to all the people behind the scenes and thanks to you, Nancy!

My favorite memory is when my children were very small, I would watch Sewing with Nancy during their naptime. One day as I was at the sewing machine sewing along with Nancy my youngest, crawled into my lap and cried, “no more ning-a-ninga”
translation…[no more sewing]. From then on when I sewed along with Nancy, my youngest sat in my lap with those tiny little hands resting on mine and oh the miles we sewed together with Nancy. Loved those years!

Because I’ve always worked during the day, I used to record some of the shows to watch alter. I have purchased many of Nancy’s how-to books and recordings. Love the opportunities to learn new ideas.

I have been watching you for years, and love the quilting shows the best. But you have taught me so much about so many things!! About tailoring, and fitting clothing patterns, about “strata”, and landscape quilts, and about how to find time to sew when I only have a few minutes!! Thanks for years of you, and years of excellent instruction, tips and great project ideas.

Congratulations on 30 years. My favourite memory of Nancy was in Sarasota Florida. I am a Canadian living on the east coast of Canada so prior to spending winter in Florida the chance to see Nancy live would never have been an option for me. But low and behold there was going to be a Nancy Zieman event going on in April . I collected every pattern, book and article I had ever had about Nancy. I was so excited and when I saw her I could not believe it. She did not glow in the dark, she had 2 of everything and she looked like a real person. I believe I sat with my mouth open through the whole event and to top it off she had Eileen Roach there as well, WOW!!! I had hit the mother loade so when it came time for pictures I went loaded down with everything for her to sign. She and Eleen were the most approachable and down to earth personalities. It cemented in my mind that you can be and do anything you set your mind to. You must just believe in yourself.
Thank you for inspiring me to try anything I wanted to do and not be afraind of failing. I now call that artistic license.

Congratulations on 30 years!! I enjoy watching the show! I have learned so many things over the years. A few years ago you did a quilting show and showed how to make a heart log-cabin style. I wrote down the instructions, and made two quilts for my girls. It was a really fun project that helped to keep them warm. Thanks for all the great shows!

I first “met” Nancy through books I checked out at the local library, and then as time went on, purchased a few. As a new mom, I have been able to occasionally catch some of her programs on PBS. Excited to see that the latest ones are available online – I may be able to view more often, now. 🙂

I have been a huge fan of Nancy’s for the better part of her 30 years on television. I have met her several times at the Puyallup Expo and have done one of her retreats in the northwest. I have a few of her books and DVD’s. I look forward to the years when I know I will see her at the Expo and will get the chance to say Hi. I must say that I think it is impossible to pick just one episode that I like the best. But I can say that my favorite guest would be Mary Mulari. I have seen them do several shows and I was at the Friday Night live events that they put on at the Sewing Expo in Puyallup. They were great…..I wish Nancy the best of luck with her TV show in the next 30 years.

I have been watching your show for the last 5 years. I love your show and the special people that you get in to help your audience. I have been taping them for 5 years now and I cant pick just one out ( that is a complement). There has been too many that I liked, the last one you had Tula Pink on. I enjoyed that, learning more about her and Modern Quilts. Congrats on the 30 years and I hope many more years.

I cannot say that any one show is my favorite because I have gained so much knowledge from many of them. Probably the thing that surprised me the most was meeting Nancy and finding out what a great sense of humor she has and how personable she is. So I guess my favorite part is finally meeting the person! Thank you Nancy for everything.

I have watched for nearly all 30 years and maybe all those years. I find it difficult to pick one favorite. I learn something new or am reminded of something I knew but forgot about every time I watch. I find at times I may not plan to do a certain project but always love learning what is being taught. The tips at end of the show are enjoyable to here, also.

As others have mentioned, I find it hard to isolate just one episode to highlight. I believe that the most important contribution that Sewing With Nancy has made though the decades is to keep a constant and high level feed of education for sewists of all levels. My website has extensive resources and book lists for sewists, wearable artists and fiber artists of all areas of fiber, and Nancy’s shows and publications have been my gold standard for sewing education, publications, and videos. Congratulations on 30 years of well earned success that reflects the significant contributions you have all made to advance the fine art and craft of sewing.

I’ve enjoyed watching Sewing With Nancy episodes most of my married life. I can’t think of specific episodes, but learned some tips and tricks and tidbits, some of them the tiniest bit of advice that have made a difference in my sewing. Here’s one: pull the thread end snug around the edge of a bobbin (leave a little tail) to prevent it from unwinding when not in use. Aha! Thanks for that one and many, many others! Congratulations on 30 wonderful years!

My whole week revolves around being home on Saturday morning when Sewing w Nancy shows out of Amarillo, TX KACV. they also have 5 other sewing related shows from 9 thru noon on Saturday a.m. so I am totally in sewing heaven ea Sat. I have given up yard sales and estate auctions for this for the past 5 years since we have lived where we receive this programming. I have learned much from Nancy’s shows over the years, having watched her on OETA for many many years, but the most important shows she has done that helped me the most have been the ones where she shows how to use the sewing machine attachments. I love the fact that she does the simple things that most folks take for granted that we all know, when in truth, sewers do not like to admit they do not know all about it. I have enjoyed learning how to alter patterns and simple fixes to sweatshirts and jeans that repurpose them as well. so much info, so much fun. thanks Nancy Zieman and the wonderful staff!! please continue with this program. love from this Okie!!

Hi Nancy congratulations on your 30th year and I hope there are many more to come. Tot ell you one episode would be impossible! I have been watching you since my daughter started 4-H about 25 years ago and your show helped me get rid of inhibitions of not sewing good enough or not being able to sew and you helped launch my quilting career so you have been part of my life for about 25 years now. I still record and I still watch so actually you have helped me learn to make purses and jackets and pants and kids clothes and quilts etc well you get the picture. So I could not pin point one but I can tell you that you have been a constant in my life for a very long time and I appreciate you more than you will ever know. I can remember always wanting a sewing machine like yours and you know I still want one just like yours…so things change but the need to watch your show and still learn so much from you is always there…thank you!

Congratulations and Happy Anniversary. I started watching your show many years ago and taped many of them for future reference since I had little time to sew or quilt? When I retired seven years ago I finally could spend time quilting. I again started watching your show and continued to tape them. You are such an inspiration! Your explanations and tips are great! I really enjoyed watching sewing from A to Z. Great tips. I refer back to that tape many times. Thanks again and keep the inspirations coming. (:

I have been watching Sewng with Nancy for the complete years. In the beginning I taped on VHS, and as time went on I moved to what ever technology was used in the day. I am now 77 years old and still sewing. I have learned so much from Nancy and her guests that I plan to pass all my recordings down to my 12 year old granddaughter. She is currently taking Home Economics and sewing in school. I had given her my Singer Light-weight. It has all the feet and is a great little sewing. She wants to be a clothing designer. Nancy’s shows will be like gold to her, as they were to me.

To pick a favorite episode would be very hard. Sewing has always been a very big part of my life, so has sewing with Nancy. I wake up with Nancy every Saturday morning, recorded if I over sleep, he,he. Learning how to decorate sweat shirts, surging a new look, and making old look new has to be my favorite. Cloths line quits also stirred my passion for fabric and design. Thank you Nancy for keeping me enlisted in your wonderful creative sewing. Sewing because I love it.

Amazing. I started watching Sewing with Nancy in the 70’s when it became available on our PBS network. Since I had been sewing, on my own, self taught, since childhood, this program was an amazing adjunct to my skills. Every program was like meeting with a friend and practicing our favorite craft. Thank you so much for all these years of inspiration and dedication to the sewing industry. I met Nancy once at a Sewing Expo, in Pittsburgh, Pa. years ago, It was great event and her class was very special to me.

I’ve always loved your program and like many of the previous comments, its hard to pick a favorite. One in particular, however, that comes to mind was putting a sleeve & lining in a jacket. I sat there simply fascinated & told my husband “Whenever Nancy does a project, she makes it so simplistic. She must have an engineering degree because she makes it so much easier to understand than when you try to follow most patterns’ instructions.” Thank you!!

Going to my first Sewing Weekend at Nancy’s I was so glad to see what a real comedian Nancy was! If she had to ‘sacrifice’ herself for the story she did – always thought it would be great if she was allowed to show that side of herself on the PBS shows! Keep helping all of us enjoy our sewing craft to the max! Thanks Nancy!!! Here’s to another 30!!

Congratulations on 30 years!! I have been watching since I began sewing in Jr. High School, I found your show not long after that ( that was when we only had a few channels and PBS). I didn’t have anyone to learn from so I got books and watched your show. Coincidence, I have now been sewing for about 30 years. Thank you for teaching me so much. I don’t really have a favorite show in particular more of a segment. I enjoyed the tips at the end of the shows where you shared letters and sewing tips from viewers, I still use some of those tips I learned. And thank you for continuing to feature garment sewing on your show, so many have abandoned making your own clothing. Thanks for 30 years and looking forward to many more.

I don’t remember the show, it was close to 30 years ago, but it inspired me to make leisure suits for my sons. (I had 8 kids, 7 boys, who now range in age from 32-45.) Anniversary Congrats to you and all your staff! I cannot tell you the specific show, but can tell you approximately the decade. Having taught myself to sew on mother’s treadle machine in early sixty’s, and 6 weeks sewing mid-sixty’s, I would try anything, including drawing patterns out on newspaper. I basically learned from the pattern instruction inserts. And then… one day I was travelling through the TV stations and POOF! There you are! I have been glued to your show ever since. I still sketch patterns and try anything without fear knowing I have your books and direction… and a DVR filled with your shows. I loved the day I first watched Sewing A to Z. Ha, I actually said aloud, “So that is the real way to do it.” I dream of an embroidery machine, and saved a very long time to purchase my Babylock Imagine. With retirement at my door in January, I look forward to more Sewing With Nancy episodes to come. Again, Congratulations, Nancy.

Congratulations on your first 30 years. You provide so much education to the sewing community. I have learned so much from watching your shows and have applied much of it in my sewing quilting. You gave me the courage to try a serger. I was able to make a king size quilt for my daughter by using Betty Cotton’s quilt first, assemble later technique. I record each of your shows so I can just watch and enjoy the first time. Then I rewatch so I can understand and master the concepts of that show. Thank you for adding so much enjoyment to my sewing and creating world.

Congratulations on 30 years of an excellent program! Your tips and techniques have been so helpful. Sometimes it’s the little things that help make a project shine. Thanks for sharing your expertise and passion for all aspects of sewing. Looking forward to many more years!

My most recent ahh haa moment was the two shows on 30 Minute Doll Clothes..my grandaughter has an American Girl Doll …so I immediately ordered the DVD and pattern and had a blast making doll clothes…a nice diversion from my quilting.

I have watched Nancy for many years and have learned many sewing techniques, but most of all I get inspired when I see
the shows now that are about quilting. I did enjoy the show where aprons were made, and the fabrics were darling. I
made a couple aprons for Christmas presents over the
    years.

Whenever I run out of ideas of things to make or do, I just watch Nancy; check out her blog; or read one of her books and I’m immediately set back on the trail of new projects.

I have enjoyed watching the Sewing with Nancy shows on PBS for many many years. I particularly like the ones associated with quilting because I don’t do much other sewing in more recent years. Congratulations on a great 30 year history.

I have enjoyed watching “Sewing with Nancy” for many years on PBS. I do not do much sewing other than quilting so I particularly like the quilting shows. I recently went on the website to get the pattern for the pillowcase dresses and britches for boys. Our quilting group made about 150 dresses and 75 britches for a mission team to take to Haiti. We certainly enjoyed making them and the recipients were very happy to receive them.

I’ve watched a lot of Sewing With Nancy over the years and, although I have a ton of favorites, the one that sticks out to me the most is: I was watching one of PBS’s Marathons where they were raising funds to keep PBS on the air. Nancy was hosting with her 30 tips. I had to stop and put in a video tape and record it on my VCR. I still have those 30 tips and watch them often. Every time I get stuck with something I just pop in the tape and refer to Nancy who always helps me solve whatever problem I may be having. Thanks for all you do and congrats on 30 years!!!

    November 13, 2012

I cannot choose one particular memory because I love all your shows and all your books. I watch several sewing shows; but for me, your format is by far the best. You step everything out so clearly that by the end of the show, I feel confident about trying the technique or the project. You instill confidence; your format is clear and concise, and your projects are practical. Thank you for 30 years of wonderful programming and ideas. .

Wow 30 years where has the time gone. I am 53 and I remember watching with my mom years ago, she was always sewing something and I miss having my clothes made by her. Thanks to age and patience that comes with it I now have the love and passion that my mom had. I find myself watching your shows online over and over to get the step that I didn’t quite understand. I wish so much I could pick up the phone and tell my mom how much I love to sew and understand her so much better now. Thank you for helping to guide me when she can’t. She would be proud.

    November 13, 2012

You got me quilting several years ago. I started watching early Sat . A. M. And I would wake up at 6 to see your show. I have sewed all my life (since I could make doll clothes) but wasn’t interested in quilting until I saw your show Bargello with a Twist. I was hooked. I have since then made 5 quilts and started a needlework group at my church. A member there taught me to hand quilt and I’m trying to complete that quilt now. I made a scrap quilt that my daughter liked ( she’s a tough cookie to please and it is the first thing she has let me make her since she outgrew smocked dressed!) thank you for encouraging so many sewers like me and all the great guests you have that do the same.
Congrats on such a remarkable achievement to your whole team .

My favorite sewing with Nancy memory is at my work in the costume shop. We finally received the Sewing with Nancy Fab Felting machine and learned how to use it to do some deco on the costumes for King Lear. I loved that show, and will never forget that I loved using the Felting machine. Thanks!

I used to watch all the time when SWN was shown in my area. (I also watched years ago when I lived in the Upped Midwest. My husband used to get a few of the shows on our BIG old satellite dish as wild feeds and would tape/DVR them. My most recent was a quilt based on a beach towel that I JUST LOVE!! It’s on my “to do” list. Thank you Nancy for being around for 30 years and here’s to another 30 (so my grands can enjoy and learn from you too!)

Congratulations, Nancy and staff on your 30 year anniversary. I have been watching the program for 7 years. I enjoy all the programs and especially the quilting and garment making episodes. One of my favorites are the two programs on landscape quilting. I also made the heart log cabin quilt for charity. I just ordered the Bargello with a Twist book. I’m looking forward to making it. My favorite technique was wrapped corners. I have used it in sewing clothes, pillowcases, and quilting. Wrapping gives the best looking corners in any project. Congrats for 30 years. I look forward to Saturday morning to watch your show. I look forward to watching many more years. Thanks,

You are not old enough to have had a show for 30 years! (I am certainly not old enough to have been watching the entire time either!) I love your show. While Sewing with Nancy has not been available to me through the years, I have probably received and purchased through EVERY catalog she has produced in 30 years. I have had the privilege of visiting her store once while out in Wisconsin and have the highest regard for Nancy as a leader in the sewing industry and mostly for making tools and tips so readily available for the modern sewist. She is a GREAT example for us all. Thanks for keeping us so up to date with new and inventive products and patterns and your excellent demos on how to use them.

I purchased my first sewing machine when I was six years old at a garage sale for 5.00 and I have been sewing since then. I remember the first time I saw Sewing with Nancy, I was so excited to see someone else have the same enthusiasm for sewing it was like a dream come true. I loved watching and it just boosted my imagination and made me want to sew more. Thank you Nancy for sharing your ideas and creativity with us for all these years your hard work and dedication is greatly appreciated.

One of the best leasons I ever learned was from watching “Sewing with Nancy”: break those long-term projects down into pieces you can finish in the amount of time you have, whether it’s half an hour or five minutes. That way, you can actually accomplish something, no matter how little time you have, and the projects get done!

    Comgratulations on 30 fabulous years!

Deara Nancy, I watched your show for over 25 years.
I learned new techniques at your table. When I got my first
Pfaff 1222E I thought I was dreaming. It is still working after several repairs from doing wedding gowns, upholstrery clothing, and years of alteration in my little home based business.
    Thanks you so much!!!! Judit

I would have to choose the whole 30 years as my favorite episode. I started sewing when I took Home Ec in 7th grade. Probably before that if you count all my doll clothes sort of sewn from scraps! Sewed most if my teenage years and in my early married life. My mom and I lived 100 miles apart but would watch you and then call each other to talk over the show. Then sewing went on the back burner for a few years. Now and then it would come out in a Halloween costume or Christmas stocking but not until the last 12 or so years when I got bitten by the quilting bug. What I most enjoyed was the way my mom and I developed more of a friendship and not just a mother/daughter relationship. My mother has been gone 16 years now but I often tell myself I wish she were here to see how far sewing has evolved. And for that I thank you. You have been on the sewing frontier for all these years. You keep up with the trends yet keep the tradition of sewing on the forefront. There isn’t an episode that I have been disappointed with. Even if I don’t care for the project I always pick up a new technique or see the value of a new tool. Something. I always learn something. Thank you for in these times of all the high tech, fast paced lifestyles and too many commitments to always bring me back to my place of peace.

I would like to say “thank you” for after watching for several weeks I finally got the courage to buy a sewing machine and reteaching myself how to sew. I had taken Home ec in high school but had forgotten more than I had learned. So thank you! I now DVR your show on Saturdays if I am not going to be able to be home to watch. My favorite show…well, there are several. The one I like to rewatch over and over is Fancy footworks 1 and 2! I am getting the book and cd for Christmas this year too! (I’ve asked Santa) Thanks so much!!

Although Sewing With Nancy is relatively new to my area, so far I love the three part serger workshop. I never knew how to do much with my serger until I saw those episodes. I just watched the first part of the Anniversary show! So much fun! Can’t wait for the second part. My first quilt was made watching Nancy make it on a show. It’s when I first learned about that tool that turns fabric tubes inside out. The quilt was made from strips made of many tubes and each tube was turned with a backing and batting. Then the tubes were decorative stitch attached.

Like eveyone else I have learned so many sewing and quilting techniques from watching Sewing with Nancy. I think my favorite has been the simplified piecing techniques for quilt blocks. The technique I have appreciated the most was adding zippers to completed or purchased tote bags….it has saved LOTS “dump-overs”!
Thank you, thank you, thank you!!

I have watched sewing with Nancy for more years than I can remember. The one show that sticks out in my mind was the Teddy Bear Tutorial showing how to sculpt the faces. I think the teddy show was in two or three parts. When I was working I would set the VCR to tape it and watch it when I had time later in the evening. Somehow, I have lost that tape and now I have greatgrandchildren I would really like to refresh my memory to make some more. I also like to order from Nancy’s Notions as I am never disappointed and enjoy the little surprises that come in the package.

    November 13, 2012

Lots of nice memories. Gail Brown is so helpful & kind with charity ideas, M.Mulari has unique taste in sweatshirt makeovers, interesting little touches. I loved Nancy’s purse patterns. Shuffling FQ to come up with quilt color combinations was memorable too.

Happy Anniversary. Being in Australia I have never viewed a TV show but I have purchased a Mcalls pattern for a jacket that I made twice! Thanks and Congratulations for all your good work.

Nancy I’ve been watching for the whole 30 years and have lots of SWN booklets and Nancy’s Notions is my “go to” place for sewing products. I even made it into one of your programs in the tip segment and into your tips book. If I have to pick out a favorite I would have to say Pattern fitting with Confidence. I have the old book. And I still look things up in your Busy Woman’s books. Thanks for so much enjoyment.

As a young mother and now (double gulp) grandmother, you and I have been through many incarnations. You have become part of the family, my son used to say “your lady is on!” when telling me that you were on tv. Someone in my childhood used to say “For the love of Nancy, would you just do_________!” Many years later, if I couldn’t figure something out, I’d say to myself, For the Love of Nancy, just see what she would do. It’s a private joke, but brings a smile to my face. I’ve taped all the shows I possibly could and now my granddaughter who is eight and just is starting to sew is making you a part of her life as well. Your books, shows, catalogs and wonderful personality make you the success you are. There are many who do what you do, but only you can do what you do so well on so many levels. For the love of Nancy, I’ve just written a fan letter!!! Congratulations dear Nancy and staff, I hope we grow VERY old together. As to a favorite show…it has to be there very first one I ever saw.

    November 14, 2012

My favorite show was the first one I watched back in 1985 which inspired me to renew my love of sewing. Until then, I thought of sewing as a way to have a new dress or outfit. You convinced me that I could do more than go up, back, zig, and zag. You awakened the creative side I didn’t know I had. Since then, I have become an embroiderer and a quilter as well. Thank you Nancy for your knowledge, inspiration, and excellent teaching skills. Can we look forward to 30 more years together please?

    November 14, 2012

My favorite memory of Sewing with Nancy was the Saturday morning in 1986 when my one and a half year old daughter was jumping up and down as I tuned the old outdoor antenna toward Shreveport, LA for her to watch “Barney” on Louisianna Public Television and there was Nancy, and a sewing instruction show, for me to watch in our rural, east Texas town! I caught the last 15 minutes of the show and had to hear “Barney?” from my daughter the whole time! Twenty six years and four grown daughters and eight grandkids later, I still watch faithfully. Thank you for being an such an inspiration all these years!

30 years! Just think of the experience we benefit from each time we read your blog. I love making purses, so the many shows you’ve had and the terrific tools (I love the templates), are my favorite shows. As a beginner sewer, I really appreciate the clarity of your instructions.

I have been watching off and on for the past 7 or 8 years, and now thank goodness for DVR’s I have seen almost every show for the last 5 years. I do not sew clothing but have picked up some great tips that have helped me out. I do love any and all of the shows pretaining to quilting. I really enjoyed the 3 part series on landscape quilting.
30 years is a long time, I hope that you make it for another 30. Thank you for sharing with us!

My favorite shows are the quilting ones — especially the column quilt. Thank you for demonstrating specialty feet so I can know when and how to use them. You explain everything with great patience and thoroughness. How can you possibly be so psychic as to know exactly what questions I would be inclined to ask? Every show has something of value to me. I look forward to many more years of your encouragement.

You have been a lifeline for me throughout the years. From making tank tops for my two boys to getting back into quilting after retiring. Thank you for being there for me!!

    November 14, 2012

I thoroughly enjoy your show! I especially like Nancy’s Corner. I learn about wonderful people doing wonderful things with their creativity and talents. It gives me inspiration. My favorites are the A to Z series. My favorite moments are when Nancy shows us her mistakes, like when the fabric she is working on doesn’t cooperate because she works upside down at an angle. Thanks, Nancy! I hope to watch you for 30 more!!!

I can’t pick just one episode. Every episode I have ever watch in this wonderful show has inspired me and taught me so very much. When in doubt, I check Nancy’s site and have never failed to find an episode that covered what I needed to learn more about. It’s such a wonderful treasure! Happy Anniversary!

My favorite memory is watching “Sewing with Nancy” with my Grandmother. She sewed on a tredle machine, making new clothes and making over the ones she bought. She make quilts, I learned to card the wool and help her tie the quilts. Sure wish I had one of those quilts now. My Mom cooked and gardened, but no sewing at all. That gene skipped a generation. Now I watch you shows over and over, learn new techniques and wish Grandma was here, how much fun she would have. She would be so amazed at what we can do today with our sewing machines!!!

Congratulations on your 30 Year Anniversary! I’ve been watching every Saturday on Public TV since my kids were little (the youngest is now 25), or setting the DVR in recent years. You taught me so much about garment construction, and I also loved your segments on handbags and doll clothes. But I think my favorite shows were the landscape quilt shows — where you showed us all that you are more than a very skilled craftswoman — you are a true fiber artist! Thank you, Nancy and crew!

I could never pick just one segment or show that was my favorite. Like so many over the 30 years, I have learned so much. Wanting to sew and having a mother who didn’t know how to sew, you, Nancy, were my “sewing mother” and I thank you for all your teaching and encouraging!

My favorite memory is from being in my early 20’s, there was no internet or tivo available – just vhs you could record on. I would get up on Saturdays to watch Sewing with Nancy. It was always so inspirational and fun to watch and learn. It gave me the encouragement to try my hand at making things. Now I am teaching my 2 sons to sew! Thanks!

I was tickled to learn that my husband decided to allocate our yearly donation to WPT toward your show and surprized me with your DVD, tote bag and book. I could echo all the responses here but suffice it to say, ‘You Rock’!

Sewing with Nancy on PBS is like fine wine, it has improved with age.. The ideas and demonstrations help me to enjoy my hobby (which sometimes includes a glass).
There are other sewing shows but none with the depth and quality that this show has. As others have said, look forward to many more years.

I have watched your programs, in awe, for all of the 30 wonderful years is has be on. Even in the “off” years when I was not sewing, I would watch and learn. Your programs gave me the confidence to create more than just an article of clothing, but something that was a step above the average patterns. I belive that your programs have been a large part of the renewed interest in everything sewing. Thank you for the inspriation and courage to improve and try new techniques. You have changed the nations perception about sewing.

It’s amazing to think it has been 30 years! I too have been around since the beginning, learning new tricks, great patterns and sewing confidence from Nancy and her guests. Not so amazing is the number of folks posting here – a tribute to the number of people the program and Nancy have touched.
As so many have mentioned, it is impossible to pick out one favorite show. Some of the ones that particularly stand out for me are the A-Z episodes, Fancy Footwork, the landscape quilting episodes… well a lot more too!
Congratulations to Nancy, her guests and her crew. Here is to another 30 years.

I too have watched your show for 30 years. I really can’t pin point a favorite, but I really enjoyed the “Then and Now” series that was so interesting. I have not had the opportunity to visit your store, but I did meet you at a trade show in Michigan, that was awesome!!!

I remember the first time I saw the show, I was a teenager. It was probably mid to late 80’s. I was living with my grandmother at the time and had never seen a sewing show on Tv before. I had been sewing for several years at this point, albeit not very well. But I have improved greatly over the years. All with Nancy’s help. Most recently, I caught the serger workshop. I have been scared of my serger since I got it, but with Nancy’s instructions, I have taken it off the shelf, dusted it off, oiled it and have begun to play around with it and am actually learning how to use it and not be afraid! Thanks Nancy! Here’s to another 30 years!! 🙂

Congrats on your 30th Anniversary!!! I have been a fan of your show and your books for many years. I have made many of your projects one the years. I love Saturday mornings when I can sit with my coffee and enjoy another creative episode and plan a new project to work on! One of my favorite episodes lately is the one where you made covers for the e-readers. I think they would made awesome gifts for both teenagers and adults. I have also enjoyed episodes with Mary Malari as your guest. She always has such fun appliqué designs.

What a tribute to a wonderful television show!!! I watch very little tv but your show is wonderful and inspiring. I find it difficult to even think of trying to choose a favorite. It is intersting for me to watch sewing that I may not wish to tackle myself but enjoy seeing the skills used in each type of craft. It would have been a loss for us who follow your show to not have had a celebration of your tenacity!! Thanks so much for continuing sharing your skills and talent.

Congrats on 30 years! I can remember watching Nancy when I was a teenager. I learned so much, techniques we didnt learn in Home Ec. I love the Quilting shows, always learning. The 3 words that most describe Sewing with Nancy is Learn, Create and Captivate! thanks for all the memories as Bob Hope would say!

Wow — 30 years. You taught me how to sew, how to think like a sewer, and how to LOVE sewing. Thank you, thank you, thank you!! I have one episode on my DVR box that I have played at least 10 times — the episode on the different feet and what they do and how they make things easier. Can’t bring myself to delete it (I might need it ). Again — LOVE your show, love your style, love you — 30 more?

I have watched Nancy for many years and I have learned so much. It was through her that I learned about all the different needles and sewing feet. I learned many many useful techniques and the “proper ” way to do things. I also got the urge to make quilts watching her and in one holiday season I made 4 of them. Thank you Nancy and thank you for staying on PBS.

Congratulations! I agree w/ a recent blog post that I saw. Julia Child taught me how to cook, Nancy taught me how to sew!

Nancy has always been a trusted friend, no matter what city I’m in, or what hotel room I’m in for that particular week, there she is. 🙂 When I’m w/ Nancy I’m “at home.”

I have watched and loved SWN for many, many years and it is hard to just choose one, but I really enjoyed tailoring and
pattern adjusting. I never win anything so it would really
delight me to win something. I have been sewing since I was quite young and I am now 84. I really enjoy quilting now.

Nancy, I feel as if we’re related (we aren’t)! I have grown up with you (I’m think we are about the same age) and have watched you and learned so much from you over the past 30 years. From sewing you gradually got me interested in quilting which turned out to be my passion. You helped me through two pregnanices, and a divorce and were always there for me ready to offer me some new sewing technique or trick to save me time. You were my big part of my “therapy” when my 20 year old son was in an accident in 2004 and passed away. Thank you for the many years you have devoted to our lives (your faithful viewers) and for the knowledge and love you send us through your each of your episodes. I can’t imagine my life without you in it. Looking forward to another 30 years!

30 yrs…no way!!! Time has been a great friend to you, Nancy. And 30 years ago….think back….our machines, our notions, our threads, our projects were so limited, so different, so 70’s!! Now we have state of the art sewing machines, embroidery machines, sergers, fabric cutters, quilting tools that we could only imagine when your series started. In the 70’s I started sewing for my children on a Singer treadle machine that a friend had stored at my house. I had taken Home Ec in school and vowed if I ever made it through that I would never sew another stitch as long as I lived. Well, our words come back to haunt us because my hobby now is sewing and embroidery. I have a Janome MC10001 that I primarily use for clothing construction and repairs. I have a Brother PR600 that is my embroidery machine. I also have a Janome serger and coverstitch machine. I am basically self taught (since I wasn’t the best Home Ec student) and have used your shows and books as learning tools. I did get two book sets through WBGU PBS station here as support gifts and love them. I also met Mary Mulari at an Indiana Embroidery Conference some years ago and have two of her books signed by the author. I’ll close by saying that I will continue to watch your show but have to watch it online since our DISH network does not carry CREATE. Thanks for all the work you have put in through the years and for many more to come.

Nancy, congratulations on 30 years of “Sewing with Nancy” success! Wishing many more years for you, me and rest of your viewers. After not sewing for decades, you inspired me to sew again. Watching you and your guests made me feel confident that I could do as much or more than when I was younger. Yeah! Thank you!!!

Although my mom was a wonderful seamstress, I didn’t learn to sew until college where a very patient instructor worked with this all-thumbs novice. Since then I have raised seven sons who all loved to drive my machine. I kept up with “Sewing with Nancy” when my machine died of less than natural causes and I needed a new machine. Nancy has renewed old lessons and given me many new ones as I have continued to sew not only clothing but quilts and my “odd-art” projects. Thanks for 30 years of help, my grandchildren are now reaping the benefits supplemented by Nancy’s help. (P.S. Looking at the “Baby Lock” prize featuring the Zundt embroidery designs from Sankt Gallen also brings memories as my great grandparents came from that area. Rich traditions!)

I have been watching for for more years than I care to mention! My favorite was the special you and Mary did for PBS! I was cracking up, especially the young men that were the taste testers and then trying to play their instruments! Seriously, I have learned so much from “Sewing with Nancy” over the years. Please keep the shows coming!

    Congratulations on your 30th Anniversary!
You asked for a comment concerning the favorite episode of “Sewing With Nancy”. Did you realize how difficult it is to pick only one episode? A favorite (of many episode favorites) is when you fashioned a column quilt using a beach towel pattern.

Georgia Public TV has made me jump all around the time tables to find your show on Saturdays. I used to beat my children out of bed on Saturday mornings so I could see Sewing with Nancy before they found some cartoon or other to keep them occupied. I made all kinds of things until my youngest son came along and I had my own sewing room. I would be in there sewing away, watching a tape of yours and peacefully enjoying myself, secure in the idea that he was playing nicely in his room. Thank Heavens for Pledge furniture polish because it got the crayon off the walls of his bedroom. Keep going, Nancy, another 30 years!

I must say that my most favorite memory was the show we got to attend to celebrate your 30th Anniversary. My sister-in-law and I had neither one attended a live taping of a show! Actually my sis-in-law didn’t even sew! We enjoyed the fun and the guests I had been watching at home over the years! I guess the best part was the day my sis-in-law called me up to tell me she had bought a New Sewing Machine! I guess you have inspired another sewl!
Congratulations on your 30+ years of true inspiration!

I’ve enjoyed Sewing with Nancy for many years now. I still watch all the reruns and look forward to the new shows as they are produced. I have many of Nancy’s books and booklets and have learned so much. Thank you for 30 great years of learning and I hope there are many more to come.

I found your show when I was recovering from a miscarriage 23 years ago. I grew up being forced to sew and not enjoying it but was watching something else one day and too lazy and depressed to change the channel.

The first show I watched showed making a straight skirt with a kick pleat and I loved how you showed details. It was so refreshing to see close up views of what you were doing – and realizing that I actually had the skills to do that too! I watched every show for the next year and finally asked for a sewing machine for my birthday.

I haven’t stopped sewing since. You have given me the courage to buy a serger and the confidence to learn pattern drafting and adjustments. I even took a class at San Diego State to further my skills!

Thank you for providing the enticement to get back into sewing! And happy 30th anniversary!

Congratulations on your 30th Anniversary, Nancy! Has it really been that long?? LOL! I’ve watched your show through many years of making clothes for my children, doll clothes for their dolls, dance outfits, and school play/Halloween costumes. In everything I’ve done, I can credit one of your shows for inspiration. So, no favorites….just all of them are favorites! Also, thank you so much for the time saving tips that you continue to provide. You are my sewing hero!!!

I have watched Sewing With Nancy for 26 years and could not choose 1 show or memory that was a favorite. The item that you demonstrated that I have made the most often is the baby wrap made with a bath towel and a wash cloth. This has been the only baby shower gift I have given since I first saw the program where you demonstrated how to make it. And every mother who received one has raved about how wonderful they are. Thanks for continuing to show America how to sew and create beautiful, fun gifts.

Congratulations on your 30th Anniversary! Yes, I was there at the taping of your show, and what a show it was. You were funny, gracious, and have a great personality. I was there with my sister-in-law, of which she has commented on in her comments. I had not been to a taping of any kind of show in my life, but to be at a taping of “Sewing with Nancy” show was phenomenal. Yes, I did buy a new sewing machine, but later had to take it back because my husband said it was too expensive. I had to choke back the tears as I turned the machine over to the lady at the store. I thought I got a good price for the machine, in fact I know I got a good price for it. I waited a few weeks and I was watching TV and I tuned in to H.S.N. and they were having a special on for Singer sewing machines, “there 60th Anniversary” show. I bought a 60th Anniversary special Singer Sewing Machine. It made my husband happy and I got an up-dated sewing machine, but not like the one I took back. Yes, I to watched your shows as it helped me do my mending with my old machine. I am not a great sewer, but now I am retired and have a better machine I could get started in quilting and sewing more. My sister-in-law has taping’s of Sewing with Nancy shows and she could also help me.

Nancy, I have watched your show off and on for at least 20 years on PBS. I remember recording them on VHS tapes when that was the technology in vogue! Caught one recently on doing a quilt. I always gleaned a couple of useful tips and got inspiration for new projects from those shows. Hope to keep seeing for several more years to come.

Many years ago when we lived on the outer edge of world we got a satilite and was in touch with cizilization and Sewing With Nancy was one of my favorite contacts. I loved to sew and was so happy that I could get new ideas for my many projects. Your show made me realize that there were new notions, fabrics and and sewing supplies. Thanks for bring my world to me. I now live where there are people and stores, but still enjoy you every Saturday.

I think my most favorite memory was when Nancy talked about the holiday dresses I made for my granddaughters from t-shirts that I embroidered, and then added a skirt from holiday fabric. What a thrill to see her holding a picture of my “grandies”. I have loved every program, however, and often when I get complimented on something I have made, I have to tell people I didn’t think of the idea, I saw it on “Sewing With Nancy”. I’ve been retired for 13 years and I’m still trying to catch up with all of the pattern/fabric kits I’ve bought over the years when I was still teaching and didn’t get to them. I am so pleased that Nancy has made so many sewing processes so much easier than when I learned to sew 55 years ago. Thank you, thank you, Nancy. Keep up the great, interesting, and fun work.

    November 14, 2012

I have fond memories of watching Nancy’s shows on Saturday morning TV when I had access to little else in the way of sewing advice. I made a number of tops based on the shows I watched and enjoyed them for years – still have one T-shirt that has a border on the sleeves made from overlapping 2″ squares. Thank you, Nancy for your inspirations!

I learned to sew through my mother & grandmother at an early age & was an clothing exhibitor in 4-H & then a clothing leader using your “Let’s Sew” book to help with instructing young members. When knits became popular, I learned so many helpful hints from your PBS TV shows. What a blessing you are to all sewing enthusiasts as you continue to educate us by PBS, Sewing Weekend and Quilt Expo. I thank you for your 30 years!

I have loved Nancy’s Notions for many years and have found it handy to record some programs when I could not be at home. I wouldn’t want to miss a single show! I have learned so much basic sewing, embroidery hints and quilting tips. Just lately I learned from the 30 minute doll clothes as I am going to make some soon. Thanks, Nancy, so much! Congratulations on 30 years of special programs that have helped so many!

30 years, oh my goodness. Congratulations and may you have 30 more. I have been watching for most if not all of those years. Thank goodness for VCR’s and DVR’s. I love being able to back up and rewatch a segment if I have a question (or doze off b/c I’m tired). The Serger and sewing feet episodes were very helpful. But I think I like the sewing a to z the best. I always learn something new when I watch. See you can teach an old dog new tricks. 🙂

I can tell you honestly that my best memory is finding a show about sewing. I loved that you knew your stuff and sewed garments and things that I sewed. Watching the show over the years I have found other things that I liked and have still been happy to have a show to watch about sewing.

I was a teenager living in rural Alabama when I discovered Sewing with Nancy 30 years ago. The highlight of my weekend was Saturday afternoon when I would use my position of “BABY” in the family to control what was watched on TV. That 30 minutes every Saturday afternoon was heaven to me and over the years, I’ve continued to try to catch the show on as many Saturdays as I could. I went off to college and took my trusty sewing machine with me. No starving student here… I had a steady stream of folks who weren’t blessed to have watched Nancy talk about how to repair garments and I gladly relieved them of dollars to fix their zippers, hem their pants or camouflage their holes with appliques. Thank you, Nancy, for your love of sewing and the will to share your knowledge.

Congratulations and Thank You for many hours of company, advice, solutions, and inspiration. I first started watching while I was a young Navy wife moving 11 times in 9 years and having 4 babies in 8 years…..there was many a time that yours was the only adult voice to be heard at times when the local stations seemed to know that I needed just that ! Although I have sewn for many years, I never tackled quilt because the “piecing” would be wonderful but I would never get around to the quilting part and it was you who let me know that there were “long armers” out there and that you don’t have to do it by hand for it to beautiful and a true quilt. Now I have retired from nursing and moved to a very small town in Indiana that has a very welcoming quilt club and my love of sashiko inspired fabric treatments will hopefully mesh into some wonderful clothes and quilts. Thank you again…stay well.

I am a HUGE fan of Nancy! Sewing has been my passion for a long time, and I look to Nancy as my “virtual mentor.” My favorite way to watch Nancy now is on my PBS iPad app – while riding my stationary bike. Thank you, Nancy, for sharing your gift!

Saturday mornings in the late 80’s and into the 90’s I would watch Sewing with Nancy with my children. I remember one fun episode with a birthday theme. Both of my children learned to sew (boy and a girl). I still have some VHS tapes of when we had to miss and would set our VCR.

Congratulations on 30 years of creative and innovative sewing for all of us enthusiastic sewers. I have watched your show all these years and I have recordings on “VHS” tapes, so that date me, uh. I too sew with the Elegante Baby Lock and really enjoy all it can do. I use the tips you give at the end of show which helps immensely. I incorporate the sewing technicques into my sewing which is clothing for dance. Thanks for all these wonderful years you have given us and more to come!!

Thank you for 30 years of sewing education and inspiration.
I enjoy all your shows and the one I have watched several times is the 30 minute doll clothes. I have 4 small grand daughters and I make a lot of doll clothes. I so enjoy going to Sewing weekend in May. My best friend and I make it a girls weekend and we learn so much, and have a lot of laughs. Thank you for bringing such Joy in my life and being a friend. I hope there will be many more years of Sewing with Nancy.

Nancy, my favorite memories are the whole of the thirty years you’ve been on TV. In the beginning I decorated my bedroom with you, from pillows to window treatments and everything in between. My home became a beautiful haven because of all the lessons you taught me to decorate. Now I’m into quilting big time and you are still showing me many tricks and methods that make this craft as fun and as simple as can be. Thank you for being my friend all these years and congratulations on your 30th anniversary. God Bless and may you have many many more. (((((HUGS))))) Marie

You have been my long-time sewing friend (even though we have never met), since your program was first televised. I covet your transcripts (blue binder), booklets and videos and DVD’s. I never miss a show. You have provided me with inspiration and instruction. Your expertise, kindness and willingness to share are evident in your teaching and interviewing style. Thank you Nancy for your dedication, you are a national treasure!

The one that stands out for me is more recent. I have been sewing school clothes for my 5 yr old granddaughter and the (what seems like) endless gathering was getting old. I watched Nancy one morning and she demonstrated her favorite gathering technique and it has become mine also. I was so excited about it that I took it to work and showed it to my employer who is also an avid sewer. I thank you and my grand daughter thanks you with her “Maga what are you sewing for me next”

My favorite episodes usually involve something on garment sewing. I loved a series a couple of years ago on sewing with knits where Nancy introduced a McCalls pattern she designed. I bought that pattern and have used it again and again. Congratulations, Nancy and crew, on your longevity and the quality programming you produce!

Not sure why my first post did not show up so I will try again! I have lots of wonderful memories of watching, taping and rewatching episodes of “Sewing with Nancy” over the years. I started watching when I was a stay at home working mom. Then when I went back to the workforce, one of the first shows I learned how to schedule on my VCR was your show and that made was really great because then I could rewind you and hear it all again! Recently, when we bundled our internet, phone and tv, I lost my DVR and I was very sad until I found out I can watch you on my Ipad! NOw I take you right to my sewing/embroidery machine and we stitch together. Thank you so much for sharing your love of sewing with me and so many others. I wish you 30 more successful years, and I plan to be sewing right along with you.

So hard to choose a favorite. I love how the espisodes are do diverse and teaches new and old techniques to make any project easier. I love Sewing with Nancy, although I don’t get to watch as often as I would like. Being able to see the web videos helps. It would be hard to find a “best”, but I really enjoy Mary Mulari’s visits. I also attended a weekend seminar in Washington and the highlight was meeting Nancy and getting a photo and autograph, and discovering what a sense of humor Nancy has! Keep up the good work, and a toast to 30 more years!

Oh Nancy, how you have inspired me over the years! There’s just not enough space here for me to count the ways and so many wonderful shows…sorry, I can’t pick just one. With sewing know-how and just your reassuring presence I’ve adopted the attitude that if “Nancy” can do it…so can I! So I’d like to take this opportunity to say thank-you Nancy Zieman…you’ve contributed more than you know, and to more people than you’ve probably imagined. I credit “Sewing With Nancy” for introducing me to my lifelong, favorite hobby…sewing. : )

Congratulations on 30 wonderful years. I also started sewing at a young age. By necessity, we made a lot of our own clothes. Being much older than Nancy, I was married with children before enjoying Nancy. To pick one episode would be impossible, but now I love the shows that are about quilting. My mother introduced me to quilting, but she only does hand piecing and I don’t have the patience for that. Nancy has such a calming way of teaching both for quilting and clothing. Every show is an inspiration. Thank you Nancy for all you do.

When I bought my second serger, I took lessons from the “educator” of a nationally known company. I did not learn anything about the “power” of a serger until I watched Nancy’s first serging series. Nancy, you and your contributors have probably taught tens of thousands how to sew. Thank you.

I enjoy watching the shows. I record the weekly show and later I can watch after work. Congratulations on 30 years of teaching us to sew and offering your books and DVDs so we can learn fun new things.
The favorite was the one on 30 Minute Doll Clothes. I bought the book and it’s on it’s way right now. My 9 year old granddaughter wants clothes for her Rapunzel doll for Christmas. She saw the page I had marked in my catalog and loved them. Little did she know that I had already purchased the book. I have so much sewing to do and these little clothes will be a breeze, thanks to you.

I learned to sew and applique with Nancy. I started sewing on a machine when my son was born 24 years ago. I had only done handwork before then. Gosh where do I start? about 2 years ago, I decided I wanted to get a babylock sofia 2. I used it to make basic items for myself and friend’s kids however I have no sewing experience. I tried googling and looked for examples and guidance of how to sew and Nancy’s videos came up! Though I don’t have time to go to classes, I didn’t get to watch tv at the right time, I found Nancy on WPT online and see videos and has helped kick start my interest in sewing. Though I am not an expert, but watching Nancy and all her tips, I knew I had to trade my machine up for an ellure plus so that i can do greater things later. I love the foot lift and now I am sewing hair accessories to using the embroidery function. I can’t wait to watch more items from Nancy and learn more techniques without having to pay the extra cost of a class room and feel like nancy is there and i can ask her repeated questions over and over again by rewind and watching. LOL. Thank you for being inspiring!

I read your blog about the book and the comment about watching the Sewing with Nancy show! How great is that, that the show was in a steamy romance novel? I have to say my greatest joy regarding the Sewing with Nancy show is having a show that is about so many diverse sewing subjects, but the biggest thing that gave me an aha moment was learning about folding over the corner seam before you sew the next seam to get a nice clean “corner”. This has helped me SO much in my sewing and my corners have come out nice a crisp and clean ever since I saw this tip.!

Nancy and all congratulations on the 30th anniversary. Watching the show brought back so many memories of the things that I have learned from your shows. I am looking forward to watching many more. So glad that Wisconsin Public Television became your show home. November 16, 2012

Nancy — I have watched you since almost the beginning! I have learned soooo much from your TV shows. I grew up making clothes in 4-H and learned many techniques from my Mom from our County Extension Agent! The 70’s with polyester knits, chain piecing, using correct needles for different fabrics — you have taught me much more to make bettere quality clothing and some time-saving methods! I also learned many things from those who sent in tips, when they were added to the end of your show. Lately, you have ended the show with very interesting people helping others around the world. I have so appreciated your show and wish you the best in this 30th year. MANY MORE TO COME!!! CONGRATULATIONS!

Dear Nancy, congratulations on 30 wonderful years of sewing. I hope there will be many more to come. For years, as a sewist, I heard and read about Nancy Zieman. I read your books and read about you and your projects in sewing magazine. However, I never was lucky enough to see your wonderful programs until my family got a satellite dish. One of the first things I did was search for your program. I can’t tell you how excited I was to see that you were on my local PBS station every Saturday afternoon. Your show is a can’t miss event each week and if I can’t be home to watch, I make sure my DVR is programmed and ready to record. Thank you for the many hours of inspiration and education you have provided. Best wishes for many more years of sewing excellence!

Congratulations Nancy on 30 years. Your show has taught me so much about sewing making it seem doable and easy. Wow, 30 yrs! I first started watching SWN on videos I could rent from my dealer & would buy the books that went along with them, as I didn’t have cable TV so could not watch that way & I was in Canada, so it wasn’t on too many stations. A few years back we got satellite & I was so excited I could FINALLY watch her show! My favorite vidoes were on heirloom sewing & another I remember was the one with the Carousal skirt that a lady had done.

Sometimes I’m not able to watch the show on TV, so appreciate the fact that I can go online to watch. That’s also an advantage when I need to watch it again! A recent show that inspired me was one about 30 minute doll clothes. I remember watching some about landscape quilting quite awhile ago. Now I’m more interested in that topic and may need to look for those shows again. Congratulations on 30 years.

It would be hard to pick a single episode, but I definitely like the quilting shows the best. You make all the techniques accessible and you empower your viewers by making the project “do-able”. Thanks for all your contributions to the sewing/quilting world and best wishes for many more years!

30 years. Congratulations! I have been debating with myself tring to identify just one topic/show. Any of your quilting shows fascinated me, but then there was the Column Quilt. I have been watching Sewing with Nancy since the first show that aired on my local PBS station. My husband equates the show to his watching football but I think I got the better deal! I especially remember the serger series, when sergers were just a dream. After watching that show I got my first serger and have always had one since.

I remember watching your show when I lived in 2 different states years and years ago. When I moved back home to Wisconsin 8 years ago my cousin told me to join her at your Sewing With Nancy 3 day event in Beaver Dam. She has been attending it since the first year. I can’t tell you how excited I was when I saw you, NANCY, in person! You were so gracious when I asked you to autograph a book of yours I purchased. This year was the 8th year in a row I have attended the program and you can bet I will be there May of 2013!

Nancy, I just loved watching all the shorts of the past and the way your hair and makeup has changed. The clothes aren’t as noticeable but wow the hair and makeup. Too funny and great. Oh, I love the hair by the way the short look is so fantastic I have taken your picture to my hairdresser for a copy of the style.

I was first introduced to Sewing With Nancy through my daughter’s 4H club. I never learned to sew while I was young, but now my teenage daughter and I are learning to sew together with Nancy’s help.

Hi Nancy. I can’t choose just one favourite moment from your 30 years. The greatest gift you have given me with your shows (and I have been watching for 30 years—when you and I were both 10 years old LOL) is making me believe I could sew anything I wanted to, if I did it step by step. With your techniques and tricks, and tips from viewers, I’ve been sewing for what seems like a lifetime now. Thanks and Congrats on your 30 years.

I love watching the sew with nancy series on PBS so much that I DVR them to watch on Saturdays. This way I can have a mimi marathon of all her shows! I have been watching Nancy sew for 20+ years and cannot pick out a single episode but I love all the episodes that involve quilting my favorite hobby.

Congratulations Nancy. I have watched your program on PBS for many many years and just cannot even think of picking one special show. My Mom was a seamstress and taught me to sew when I was a little girl making clothes for my Ginny dolls. When I got in my 20’s and started working she would make my suits for the office. When she died at 51 years of age I gathered up her sewing machine, patterns and supplies and told my Dad that I would not let it all to to waste and thus got serious about sewing myself…that is where your shows were a big inspiration to me! I now sew and quilt for my three grandkids and you still keep me inspired. Wish you were on more often! Love you Nancy.

I am a crafter through and through. I have recently been sewing for a few years now and love watching the Sewing with Nancy videos. I’m a very frugal person and do everything to the max with the minimum resources. I watch Sewing with Nancy on my internet because we don’t have television in our home. I wouldn’t have it any other way. I can watch any video I want at any time and I can always go back and watch it a second time. I LOVE watching the videos, too! Congratulations on an absolutely wonderful 30 years! And, thanks for all the tips and tricks I’ve learned from you!!!!

I started to watch Sewing with Nancy when my children were very young, but they knew on Saturday morning when I grabbed my cup of tea and sat down to watch they better leave me alone. One episode you had a young woman making quilts that mimicked photographs of family members. I actually called my husband in to see that episode. I was amazed. I’m not a quilter so my favorite shows are the fitting and sewing technique shows.

Happy Anniversary! I have learned so very much from Sewing with Nancy over the years, as I only had the sewing machine store’s 6-week “learn to sew” class (when I was in 8th grade and needed clothes for high school) previously. My fondest memory is meeting Nancy in person — twice!!! — at local sewing seminars, and getting to see some of her projects “live”. I think I got the biggest kick out of showing her my “Sew/Fit” manual with her picture in it (before “Sewing with Nancy” days). Thank you, Nancy! Thank you! Thank you!

Congrats on your milestone. Since they only show your episodes on a weekday, I don’t get to watch your show as much as I want to but every time I get to watch, I learn something new, so how can I possibley pick out one that is more special than anyh of the others?

You, Nancy are known, much like Lucy and Ethel, by one name. There is only one you!!!! Thank you for all you have done for the industry.
My favorite Sewing with Nancy was at one of your spectacular events where we got the pleasure of seeing you in person. You were “more” at ease because you didn’t have the time restraints/restrictions of a TV show. It was wonderful!!!! Thank you for 30 years and being a milestone everyone in the industry strives for.

    Thank you

I did not discover Sewing with Nancy until about 1996 so I missed the first half!! Nancy has always been my favorite of the many videos available because of the careful filming of techniques and great commentaries. Congratulations on 30 years.

I have been watching Sewing with Nancy for years, and I liked the get ready serge show and the 30 minute doll clothes. I have 3 granddaughters that are each getting all the doll clothes from the series, that’s 3 times each outfit.

Thank you, Nancy. You have inspired so many of us to continue to sew, and continue to try to make garments, even though many patterns don’t show accurate sizes.

But mainly, I want you to know, my mother was also a 4-H Leader and taught sewing and had many blue ribbon students. However, I learned from her but not in the 4H class. We often would watch your show together many years ago, and she would be amazed if she were here today to see what we can do with our embroidery machines etc. I’ve been to your Sewing Weekend three times so far, and everytime I come, I think how much she would have liked to be there too, so her spirit joins me when I come to those events and she still does enjoy the sewing and whole experience. The laughter is so awesome.

I’ve recently re-retired and am working to get a pattern to fit appropriately in the right places, and taking the time to go through your book one step at a time. Though I prefer serging, but to learn the fitting process, until I get the fitting correct I must use the regular sewing technique. Thank you for all your help and confidence building. Barb

I forgot to mention my favorite Nancy memory earlier. I guess it was at one of the Sewing Weekends when we attended the scarf class. I’ve made many infinity scarfs, since that time, and even gave one as a prize at our local sewing guild. The winner didn’t believe she would ever wear one, but always has one on now and has made oodles of them herself. Thank you for being such a great teacher. I’ve also enjoyed seeing you in person and shaking your hand. Each year I have gone, more people come with me, after our telling how wonderful an event you and your people make it. Love, Barb

I am 55 years old and have enjoyed Sewing with Nancy since it started! I would record on a VCR all the shows and watch them over & over again. My mother & grandmother taught me how to sew, but Nancy helped me perfect things and go on to sew many other things that I couldn’t even imagine. I have enjoyed ALL the people that you have had on your show, especially your good friend Gail Brown & Mary Mulari. I have many of your books, DVD’s, patterns (I can’t even begin to count them!) as well as Gail’s & Mary’s books and DVD’s. Have enjoyed and STILL enjoy all the many subjects that you have to offer on sewing, serging and Embroidery. Keep up thegreat work and look forward to another 30 years of stitching together!! CONGRATS on 30 years of shows!!

Every Saturday all through my teens,20’s, and 30’s I would be glued to Sewing with Nancy, thanks to Canadian tv allowing me to access PBS on cable. Even when I had to work weekends at a client I would turn on the tv if possible to watch. Then when internet arrived I could watch anytime and I still do! I want to thank you for explaining all things sewing extremely clearly and thoroughly. I admire you for being yourself and making it on your own terms. You are my ‘angel on my shoulder’ for sewing and also inspired me to take the plunge into my own business years ago. I was so hoping to meet you at your retreat in Springfield MO a few weeks ago but due to a family emergency I had to cancel at the last moment. Hopefully I will make it to a future retreat. You Rock Nancy!

How could I have a favorite when every show teaches me something. Nancy always has a good show with amazing guests. My biggest sorrow is that we have satellite and it took me awhile to find the channel that her show was on. But I’m back watching and DVR all of her shows. Thanks for the “30”.

Congratulations! Wow, I’ve been watching this show for 30 years! I learned so much from many shows, Recently I sewed a fractured bargello jacket, because of your show with Lorainne? People ask and I tell them I used the idea I received from Sewing with Nancy.
Thanks so much to you and your staff.

The first time I saw your sewing show I didn’t want it to end. I’m always trying to find the air time in all the places I’ve lived. I was really sorry that AFN (Armed Forces Network) didn’t carry it while living in Germany!
