Daylight Saving Time signals the bittersweet winding down of winter and the excitement that spring is just a few weeks away. I’m looking forward to seeing the grass turn green and to watching the first spring flowers break through the ground.
On Sunday morning, as we moved our clocks ahead 1 hour into Daylight Saving Time, I was reminded of a sewing project that’s been on my creative list. With just a few supplies you’ll be able to create a watch to match a new outfit. Here’s what you’ll need:
• One Oblong Watch Face
• Two strips of fabric 2″ x 9″ —Batik fabrics are a great choice!
• Two pieces of 1″ Create-a-Strap, 9″ long OR cut to the length of your wrist plus 2″
• 2″ of Velcro® Sew-in Tape
Press Create-a-Strap to fabric back.
Press under 1/4″ on short ends. Then, press under long sides at perforations.
Open pressed edges and clip away corners to eliminate bulk.
Position Velcro® strips at opposite ends. Velcro® is difficult to pin through, so I use Clover’s new Wonder Clips.
Topstitch Velcro® to each strip.
Place strips wrong sides together, with Velcro® on opposite ends, and secure with Wonder Clips.
Edgestitch to attach strips.
Slide Oblong Watch Face onto strap.
For the Square Watch Face, use 5/8″ wide Create-a-Strap, and trim Velcro® to 1/2″ wide.
There’s plenty of Time to Sew with quick projects like this!
Bye for now,
What a great idea with the hot weather coming. Leather or plastic watch bands can be too hot and unpleasant to wear. A nice cotton would be so nice and breezy to wear and could match what you are wearing. A great use for the Create a strap product and how did we ever live without Velcro before? Would make a nice gift too and fast to make. Forever greatful for your ideas.
I love watches to match my clothes. It’s kind of like jewelery with a purpose. With your method, I could have one to match every outfit and only have to purchase a couple of watch faces. Thanks for the idea.
