Nancy Zieman’s Facebook Page Hacked!

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

https://www.dropbox.com/s/mujzn8fiav7ak0l/Screenshot%202015-08-12%2015.42.09.png?dl=0Monday, the Nancy Zieman Facebook paged was hacked/stolen. It was totally my fault. This is what happened.

I received a message from Facebook along with their logo, stating that my account would be suspended because I violated their policy and that I needed to verify my account or they would temporarily shut it down.  I filled out the form with my login information. Stupid—I know better than that.

That night I could no longer access my administrator account. When I went to my Facebook page I found posts for all sorts of unrelated products. My password was changed and I could not delete the posts.

We are currently working on gaining back control of my Facebook page. But it is not happening very quickly. Thanks to many of you who reported the hack and to those of you who are working to help my team regain control of the site.

Lessons to learn from my big mistake:

  • Do NOT click or share any of the non-sewing or quilting posts. Likely, the purpose of the perpetrator is to achieve financial gain from clicks and/or sales.
  • Never give out your password. (I know this and you know this – but did I follow my own advice? No.)
  • Have a different password for each internet/social media account.

Have patience. We hope to gain back control in the near future.

Egg on my face and feeling mighty stupid,

Nancy Zieman Sig White Bkg

It could happen to any of us, Nancy, even without filling out the form. I know this first hand. Don’t be hard on yourself and thank you for the reminder. We all take much for granted online these days.

My personal fb page was hacked recently, too. No worries, Nancy! No one is blaming you – it is so easy to fall into their traps!

Definitely not blaming you, but I would like to jab a pin or two into the scoundrels who did the hack. I miss the sewing updates!!!!

Thanks for the e-mail. I wondered why it wasn’t about sewing. Hey, I clicked on a couple of those pages! So no problem, even the pentagon got hacked! Don’t stress…we’ll always be here for you.

Sorry you got hacked 🙁 but that explains the weird posts. And it gives me a wake up call! Why? I was both complacent and complicit in just thinking it was a ‘new marketing tactic’ to improve site traffic. I should have known better too. I will try and do better the next time this happens to someone I follow.

I knew it! After the 3rd weird post I saw, I reported it. Sorry you had to go thru that. And don’t feel like the Lone Ranger, I did the same thing with a debit card and realized my stupid mistake as soon as I hung up the phone. Luckily, the bank canceled the card with in minutes, so no harm done. Don’t feel bad, we all make mistakes!

The hackers are getting too crafty, and I’m beginning to think they are somehow monitoring my emails and listening in on my conversations at home. Like the time I got an email order confirmation from a well known online company right after my son told me he had been browsing the website, and the email gave an address for an unknown person in another state. I panicked and clicked the link in the email to cancel the order, then immediately realized I should have typed the company’s website URL in my browser and gone there to check for an order. It happened late at night when I was tired and my defenses were down.

The idiots are so good at convincing you they are real. Always look at the full header info when you get emails like this, it will show what email address it came from. Look at their @address and you can see if it’s not from the actual company.

I did receive one hacked message and it automatically went to the junk mail folder. I also checked it out by going safely into properties to view the message and it was in code. This is what I do if I am not sure about the emails I receive.

Thank you for being an honest person. Please get better soon. You are love.

Good Morning Nancy. I hope you are starting to feel better….it could have happened to anyone of us. Once you saw the logo it was only natural that you would take the info as gospel. The hard part is now getting everything back to normal. Thank you for your honesty Nancy and your integrity. It is sad that there are people out there that would do things like that to us. Hugs….and chin up.

I wondered what was up when I began to see FB posts from NZ that were anything but sewing related……….health, exercise, etc., it just didn’t seem like that was something you all would post. Didn’t open any of them……….I always think, “well, if I want a plumber, I’m not going to call an Oral Surgeon………or if I need a seamstress, I’m not going to visit a welder……”
Hope you are soon back to “normal”!

I, too, was surprised at some of the things that came up on FB that were supposedly posted by you. I should have realized something wasn’t right. I didn’t click or share anything not related to sewing/quilting. Like others said, most of us have been fooled by someone phishing at one time or another, myself included, so don’t beat yourself up. It’ll all be okay.

Nancy, I read your book…that was wonderful, you did such
a great job. I could not believe you learned all those things
growing up! Riding a tractor, etc…you really amazed me.
You have great ability at coping. I had Bell’s Palsy twice, the first time left nothing. the second left an eye that does
really open all the way. Also had shingles. Got to tell you
you look great, and I have enjoyed your programs for I
guess, all the time you have been on air. Learned great

Nancy, you’re such an elegant, courageous, sweet heart of a person. Forgive yourself for falling prey to these horrible beings. They don’t have a soul. They are only hackers, because they are big failures, and they’re too dumb to realize, at the end of the day, they inadvertently blessed you with more wisdom and strength . So let yourself off the hook. We the sewing community in America, and abroad appreciate and love you for all you do. You are not alone. Continue to stand tall for who you are.
May blessings always be upon you,
