Kitchen Towel Topper Tutorial

Stitch a quick gift for you and/or a friend! This super-easy Free Kitchen Towel Topper Printable Pattern, with envelope-style closure, is a breeze to make with our free sewing tutorial and printable pattern! You’ll love to keep this practical, yet pretty, cotton towel close at hand.

Finished Size: approximately 6 1/4″ wide x 18″ long

Supplies:

1/4 yd. or 8-1/2″ x 11″ fabric scrap, Fabric A (We used Nancy’s Farmhouse Floral Blue Shiplap Fabric.)

1/4 yd. or 8-1/2″ x 11″ fabric scrap, Fabric B (We used Nancy’s Farmhouse Floral Cream Floral Fabric.)

1/4 yd. Fusible Interfacing

One cotton or linen kitchen towel, pre-washed

One 3/4″ Button

Free Kitchen Towel Topper Printable Pattern

All seam allowances are 1/2″.

Construction:

1. Prepare towel.

  • Fold towel in half and press.

  • Cut towel on pressed line, using rotary cutter tools. Save top of towel for making a second one!

2. Print and cut out Free Kitchen Towel Topper Printable Pattern.

3. Prepare fabrics for towel topper.

  • Following manufacturer’s instructions, press interfacing to wrong sides of Fabric A and Fabric B pieces.

  • Place Fabric A and Fabric B right sides together. Stitch lower left seam and upper right angled seam.

  • Wrap seam allowances towards center and stitch top left and lower right seam, stitching through folded fabric seams.

Note From Team Nancy     The “wrapped” corners make crisp points—when turned.

  • Trim away excess fabric at seams.

  • Turn topper right side out and press.

  • Use a Buttonhole Cutter, to cut opening for button.

  • Create pleats, at towel top, as desired. Pin. Press. Remove Pins.

  • Turn under and press 1/2″ seam allowance at opening of lower towel topper.

  • Insert towel into the topper.

  • Pin.

  • Topstitch topper to towel.

7. Finish the topper.

  • Fold envelope towel topper forward.
  •  Button the topper.

    What a great idea to brighten up the kitchen! These fabrics would make even the dullest kitchen look happier! I have lived in places in my life that needed some “extra love”. The quickest and easiest way to add new decor is to sew pretty towels and accessories to display. Love these fabrics!

    Great tutorial and thanks for pattern! I’d make a few towels to give as gifts and also replenish my drawer of towels. The pack would also be great to trim out kitchen curtains to coordinate with the towels. Some potholders would be in the mix as well.

    What fun fabric! I could see making a purse with some of that fabric for my daughters. I would also like to make some pot holders, mine are getting worn out, and those colors would be bright and cheery in the kitchen. I have been thinking about making Kleenex holders for myself since the Sewing Weekend in Beaver Dam. I think that would make great stocking stuffers for my daughters and gifts for my nieces also. It’s never too early to get Christmas gifts started!

    GORGEOUS colors! I’d use them to make some microwave bowls for our church’s bi-annual Christmas sale (they are always snapped up quickly) and some to make a baby quilt. When a new baby is baptized, my church gives the parents one of the quilts we make as a memory gift.
