Nancy Zieman Fiber Arts Exhibit on Display this March in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin.
Make plans this March to visit the Celebrating Nancy Zieman Fiber Arts Exhibit – hosted by the Dodge County Center for the Arts – DCCA, in Beaver Dam, Wis., February 28 through March 29, 2020. The Celebrating Nancy Zieman Exhibit features a large collection of original Landscape Wall Quilts designed and sewn by Nancy. In 1998, Nancy learned the art of landscape quilting from her longtime friend, Natalie Sewell, of Madison Wis.
Nancy Luedtke Zieman was born, on June 21, 1953, and she passed away November 14, 2017, at the age of 64. Today we celebrate Nancy as a fiber artist, businesswoman, home economist, national sewing authority, daughter, niece, sister, aunt, wife, mother, grandmother, friend and inspiration to all.
Nancy fulfilled her true calling as an educator and inspiration to the world around her. Nancy touched the lives of millions as they stitched alongside, or simply tuned in to watch, the inimitable Nancy Zieman and guests on Sewing With Nancy on Public Television.
Nancy Luedtke Zieman was born to Barbara and Ralph Luedtke on Father’s Day in 1953, and she grew up on her family’s dairy farm—near Winneconne, Wisconsin. This special Celebrating Nancy Zieman Exhibit includes images, awards, and early garments sewn by Nancy—including the award-wining wool coat, pictured above. Nancy made her wool coat as a 4H project in the 1960s. The coat won first place at County Fair, and went on to win an award at the Wisconsin State Fair.
In 1971 Nancy graduated high school in Winneconne, WI, and later graduated in 1975 from University of Wisconsin–Stout, where she studied clothing textiles design and journalism.
In 1979, Nancy started Nancy’s Notions at her kitchen table. Nancy grew her business at home, later moved to a building on her husband Richard’s parents farm, then opened the Nancy’s Notions catalog warehouse/showroom in Beaver Dam, WI, in 1985. At the same time, the couple welcomed their first son Ted in 1982, and their second son Tom in 1991.

Nancy began her TV show Sewing With Nancy in 1982. Since 1992, PBS Wisconsin in Madison, Wis. has been Nancy’s partner in television production with Laurie Gorman serving as the executive director for the past 25 years. Nancy recorded 35 years of how-to educational programing and Sewing With Nancy is the longest running sewing show on television. Sewing With Nancy continues to air on Public Television, Create TV, and 24/7/365 at NancyZieman.com and on YouTube.
Included in the Celebrating Nancy Zieman Exhibit, are images of Nancy with friends Gail Brown, Mary Mulari, Eileen Roche, and Natalie Sewell, along with behind the scenes images – on the set of Sewing With Nancy.
View Nancy’s very own machine-quilting frame and Baby Lock Sewing Machine—used by Nancy to machine quilt nearly 70 landscape quilts. Also on display is Nancy’s Bible along with her original landscape quilt titled, Looking Up, – made by Nancy in 2012 as a gift for her church.
The Celebrating Nancy Zieman Exhibit also includes a gallery of Original Giclee Canvas Landscape Art Prints by Nancy Zieman.
The Celebrating Nancy Zieman Exhibit will be on display February 28 through March 29, 2020 – in the gallery of the Dodge County Center for the Arts – DCCA and is open free of charge to the public from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday and Friday; 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday; and Sunday 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Exhibit is closed Monday through Wednesday.
There will be an opening reception for the Celebrating Nancy Zieman Exhibit this Friday, February 28th – 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

I am planning to visit the Nancy Zieman Exhibit in March. How exciting! I love hearing about Nancy’s journey, and am glad that her legacy is being shared with the community. What a wonderful way to celebrate her life.

I had to laugh when I looked at the notions on the yellow flyer as I had all three of them, and probably the pivot and slide book for pants also. My mother who lived in Waupun, sent me items from Nancy’s Notions as Christmas items when I lived in Colorado. I used the metal hem gauge so frequently that the markings are now hard to see. I purchased a new one for myself, but put the first one in a sewing machine cabinet I gave to my daughter who really doesn’t sew. I purchased Pfaff sewing machines, which was the first machine she used, because if Nancy could do it, I should be able to do it too!

It is a bit far to get to Wisconsin from New Mexico.

I am going to take my mother and sister to the exhibit, we are all quilters. Landscape quilts are some of our favorite and we are excited about seeing so many of Nancy’s quilts in one spot. I have read Seams Unlikely and would like to read the rest of her story.

I so wish I could go and see this exhibit. I am just starting to sew, but have always enjoyed Nancy’s shows, emails (to watch online), etc. She was quite a lady.

I will come from Oshkosh. Bought my Pfaff from Nancy’s and it just died last month. How I miss her store! She was a role model for all woman, and she is deeply missed by all of us. What a relief to watch her shows on the computer and I am making the block of the month for 2020. Thanks , Pat Saft

I live in Michigan and feel lucky to have seen the Nancy Zieman exhibit in Winneconne, WI last September as I traveled to the Madison quilt show. I decided to go to the quilt show for the first time because I really wanted to see the NZ exhibit. I happen to be traveling to St. Louis at the end of March and am going to see if I can start my trip early so I can make a “detour” to Beaver Dam to see Nancy’s landscape quilts.
Nancy was a treasure and I really hope I can make this work!

Unfortunately, a Wisconsin trip is not in the cards for me but I will be listening to the online talk on Feb. 28 so I can at least get the flavor of this exciting event.

What a remarkable, creative lady! Nancy still serves as a beacon of inspiration and the exhibit is a fine tribute to her. Since living in another area of the country, I will not be able to see the exhibit, but greatly appreciated reading this post about her.

Wow, what a beautiful tribute to an amazing lady. I still miss her. Thank goodness for this technological age so I can still see her. Her “you can do this’ attitude inspired and challenged me to be the quilter and seamstress I am today. I would love to see her work in person but too far from NM for me to make it. I just listened to Deanna on the radio broadcast about this exhibit and really hope I can make it to this exhibit. Deanna is a great spokesperson about Nancy and her life. Thank you so much for sharing the link to the broadcast. I’ll admit that I got a little teary eyed while listening, thinking about Nancy and the special person she was. It is wonderful that the Zieman family and Nancy’s friends are sharing with us Nancy’s landscape quilts and other special items from her life.
