Recycled Demin Nancy Zieman 5Sewing is a creative outlet and a favorite therapy for many of us. The NZP team enjoys making time for sewing each day. Some days it’s ten minutes in the morning, or 20 minutes in the afternoon. This is how Nancy Zieman accomplished most sewing tasks, regardless of the project. If you’ve tuned in to watch Sewing With Nancy, you likely know that the “10-20-30 minutes to sew, quilt, create” method was developed by Nancy in the ’80s. Now we’ve applied this concept to recycling jeans. Curious? Learn how in the new Sewing With Nancy TV mini-series, 10-20-30 Minutes to Recycle Jeans and in the book of the same title.

60-Minute Jeans Potholders

In about an hour, create a pair of durable recycled jeans potholders that are pliable and easy to use, while giving protection from the heat of hot dishes. Watch online to learn the basics of taking apart cast-off jeans, and making something creative.

Bunkhouse Bib

When it’s chow time at the ranch or most likely lunchtime at home, make adorable bibs for your little buckaroos. The durable yet colorful bib features parts of a cast-off pair of jeans and a bright bandana. Sewing time for this recycling project is again approximately an hour.

Team up your casual meals with upcycled jeans placemats. These BBQ Placemats are durable, and add a down-home flair to a meal with family or friends. Two placemats can easily be made from a no longer worn pair of jeans. Plus, there will be extra “fabric” left over to use in other recycling projects.

My recycled project is to take the legs of the jeans and the pockets. I make straps with velcro for men to use on their walkers. They enjoy masculine personalized bags.

For years, the teen sewers in my classes have been using recycled jeans to make a variety of projects. One of the more unusual projects was a jeans hat and jacket a student made for his cat! I later was shown a picture of the cat modeling his new outfit. I’d love to make a jeans bib for a new baby gift.

I save old jeans and also go to our local goodwill to make inexpensive purchases of as many different colors of jeans as possible. I have designed some quilt patterns using these jeans remnants and it is really fun working in the different colors.

I’ve been saving old jeans that I find at second hand shops for years. For 2018 I plan to use some in mug rugs and bowl cozies. Both make handy gifts for birthdays or Christmas.

I would to have this book! Not long ago I cut up an old denim jumper I had and made a pillow from it. I put the pocket in the center to hold remote controls for the tv and DVD player. Makes keeping these devices close at hand and easier to find. Thanks for the opportunity to win this book.

I would like to make some mug rugs. I am saving the tops of old cotton socks that have worn-out heels or toes to use as the ‘batting’ in the mug rugs. They will absorb the condensation from the mugs.

I’ve cut apart a number of pairs of jeans that, for some reason, just didn’t fit anymore. I have lots of jeans fabric accumulated and the first thing I made was a tote bag with 9 squares of fabric each embroidered with a different vegetable. I use it for going to the farmer’s market. I like it so much that I will probably make another one.

I would love to finish a jean jacket I started a number of years ago from recycled jeans. I had bunches of applique on it and I didn’t get a-round-to-it. Now I have an amazing embroidery machine so in 2018 I will be digging out the pieces and finishing the jacket! Left- overs would make perfect potholders.
