The Flying Sewing Machine Book by Nancy ZiemanThere is a town nestled by the river not too far away,

Where magic happens in mid afternoon each and every day.

The Flying Sewing Machine Children's Book by Nancy Zieman

This place is much different from most cities or towns.

Besides the usual people and pets, sewing machines fly around!

The Flying Sewing Machine Book by Nancy ZiemanAt first glance this town called Sewland seems a normal place to gather.

There are stores, churches, and schools, so nothing seems to be the matter.

The Flying Sewing Machine Book by Nancy ZiemanBut at a quarter of two each day of the week,

The town takes a creative break to sew something neat.

The Flying Sewing Machine Book by Nancy Zieman

You’ll need to read the book, to find out what happens next,

As we don’t want the blame for exposing the rest.

The Flying Sewing Machine Book by Nancy ZiemanNancy enjoyed sewing with her granddaughters so much, that she was inspired to write a children’s book with a sewing theme. Our friend Philip Ashby created the amazing illustrations. Nancy’s entertaining story about a fictional town named Sewland is showcased in The Flying Sewing Machine book, and is now available at Nancy’s Notions.

The Flying Sewing Machine Book by Nancy ZiemanWe hope you enjoy reading the book to your little ones, as much as Nancy enjoyed reading the book to Avery, Luella, and Adeline.

I have taught my older grandchildren so sew by making quilts. They won ribbons at the local and state fairs.
They can sew on their own now. The youngest two are starting to learn to quilt also.

I always told them they didn’t have to be experts at sewing but wanted them to be able to sew on a button or seam on their clothes.

I love to spark the sewing bug in little children so that as they get older, they would hopefully continue learning all about sewing. I have had a passion for sewing all my life and have found myself called to teach others here and there. I’ve even donated used working machines to high school students who want to sew but can’t affors a sewing machine. My philosophy is, if they spend their time and money on fabric and sewing, they won’t be wandering the streets or buying drugs. Buying fabric will take care of that!

I give private sewing lessons to children and would LOVE to be able to read this book to them to get them more excited about sewing. This is a skill that I think all children should have or at least have the opportunity to try. Nancy’s shows, great ideas and books have always been an inspiration to me and will be for many years to come. I would love to have this book in my Nancy library!

What a beautiful idea for a book, to introduce children to enjoy the imagination of creating with a sewing machine! Nancy’s love of teaching will always have of a special place in my heart ❤️! I was blessed to meet her in 2007, when my husband and I were traveling in our small trailer and took a detour to Beaver Dam. My husband and I were impressed when Nancy stopped what she was doing to come and meet with us. Nancy became a part of my life back in 1982, when I started watching, “Sewing with Nancy”. I will always be appreciative and happy to have known her.

    December 7, 2017

What a wonderful legacy! I miss Nancy already even though we still have her show and things like this book. What a wonderful role model for today’s youth. Girls could do much worse than to look to her example.
This book is especially timely for me. I have two grandsons, 7 & 9. The nine year old had a sewing machine on his list. Plus he’s shown interest in my sewing and quilting. The machine he requested was a working toy. This book along with some hand work and educational materials will make a good catch gap for me so I can save for a lower model of real sewing machine. At their ages I think they’re ready with supervision, to start a life long habit of sewing skills. After all 9 is old enough to start the sewing project in 4-H. I’d like to think Nancy would approve.
