I love this tote! How handy this would be down here in the hot south! Gathering groceries in the Garden District! Thank you!

I would use the tote pattern as a beach bag. I wait to get a trunkful of groceries every three weeks, so I don’t use small grocery totes.

Perfect for going to a farmers’ market!!

I would use it to carry all my frozen/refrigerated products home from the grocery store.

    What an earth friendly idea!

This is a great idea – we live an hour from the grocery store and this would take the stress out of keeping refrigerator and frozen items safe. Can’t wait to make several !!

I want to make grocery totes due to stores getting rid of plastic bags, also, my church has a craft fair in the fall, so I want to make some for them to sell

This is a wonderful tutorial and kit.I have been intimidated to try insulated interface and film in my sewing projects. This design will replace my old warehouse insulated tote. I love bringing it to the market to keep perishables cool but it is also a pretty and functional alternative to the box style coolers, it makes it easier to store after long road trips. I would be making one for my MIL, one for my mom and one for myself, Thanks for all you share!! Have a wonderful day!

I would use these for grocery shopping and to give as gifts. I also am making some to be used in a silent auction for a local fundraiser. Great tips and I enjoy watching the videos.

I would make the small size so I could bring my lunch to work and several of the larger size to bring my groceries home. I have a ways to travel so these would be great and environmentally friendly as well.

I plan to make a few of these bags to take to the grocery store as they have quit using plastic bags. Think I will make some to sell at the craft fair in the fall.

You can never have enough bags when you only shop 1x a month, keeps different foods seperate and cold things cold is a major help.

This is an important type of bag to take with you when grocery shopping in my southern climate. Great idea and so useful. I would very much like to make these for myself and some for gifts.

At the checkout, you could store your meats from the grocery store.

What a clever way to do the zip. Love the fabric. Now I need to make some new totes because mine are very shabby and the fabric is so cheerful and springy!
    Thanks

One of our local grocery stores will soon not have plastic bags available so this would come in handy to make my own.

NYS is banning plastic grocery bags as of March 1st, I am sure other states will follow. I love the insulated ability of this bag, and the smaller size for taking lunch to meetings, etc. Thanks for the Tutorial.

I have been making grocery totes for a couple of years now. I love the way you use the strap down the side for extra support. I think maybe it’s time to add a couple of new bags to my “collection”. Although I don’t need a lunch bag, the smaller bag would be great for bringing home a hot cooked chicken.

This is a great idea as I like to have my own bags at the grocery store since our recycling center no longer recycled plastic bags

CT has banned plastic bags, so this will be great for all our shopping. Thanks

How wonderful that we are now doing sewing items to help to protect our environment. What a great idea and video on HOW TO. You could make them for friends and family so they would have them to use around the house or at the stores. You could also make them for the DEPARTMENT stores because they give out plastic bag also…You could use material that depicts clothes or people or quilted for you department shopping of clothes.

I have used environmentally friendly shopping totes since they first came out, but none of them I have purchased give me the satisfaction that carrying a really cute custom-made tote would give me.

This is a wonderful tote! And, in Oregon now, no bags are provided at any store free of charge, so these are going to be extremely necessary! Thank you!

Thanks for this tutorial. I’ve been making grocery bags for years same size as this one but without the insulation. Will have to add the insulation to some of them. I also like the way you added the outside pocket and the way did your handles too, which is different than the way I’ve made mine. I also have some of the same fabrics on hand and love them. Have used it on several sewing projects, including pillow covers, pot holders and tea cup quilt blocks.

This is great! I would use it to bring home my groceries from the store. I never have enough insulated totes for all that I buy, so more would be great. Thanks for the instructions and tips.

Even having one of these cool bags would be sew cool! I will use the cool bag to travel home from the market. I believe I will make one for my friend to carry her lunch, snacks and even a bottle of water in her car..She is a rural mail carrier and has to eat in her car. One of these will take up only a small amount of room in her vehicle. Thanks for a great gift idea!

I always buy kits when I am not sure of the best materials to buy to make up the products. Since we have been forced into paying for paperbags, I have chosen to carry a couple totes I have knitting projects in. Adding this cooler bag would help when buying the frozen items back from the store. Would have helped before now.

Sounds like just what I need for carrying home frozen foods.

  • Rebecca Monnin
    January 17, 2020

Very happy to see this pattern and project(s)! It’s a better couple of sizes than the ginormous bag we purchased a year ago. Now, when we shop for just a few frozen items, that smaller bag will be so worthwhile! I’ve even had occasions when the smallest bag would’ve been so handy. Thank you to the S!S Team! I can see more than one set being made because there are other times when the bags would be useful: traveling with the family and having a cold/frozen treat for that first rest stop; going on a picnic; delivering a cold dish to someone who’s not next door. I’m sure there are other suggestions, too.

I’m a member of a “green” family. Why use single use bags when these are both lovely and perfect for the job. I would also use the bags for lunch and for spur of the moment picnics.

  • Diane Mills
    January 18, 2020

Ladies I love this tote. But probably the best thing I heard is about the scant 1/4 inch seam. I have heard Nancy and others (Fons and Porter) mention that over the years and could not decide what it actually meant so I am so very glad you cleared that up for me LOL. I enjoy your videos and look forward to the next Project.

    January 20, 2020

I love this bag! I think I would use it as a bag to carry to my daughters house. We live a little distance from her but every time we go we take food and snacks so it would be perfect for that. I might even make one for her to bring to my house when she comes.

  • Donna Fecteau

Lovely tote. Our state has banned plastic bags at the checkout so this will come in handy and be very helpful for keeping the ice cream cold all the way home this summer.

  • Julie Kill
    January 21, 2020

The cooler Tote would be used for groceries, as well as taking food to Gymnastics meets and family picnics! Thanks for the chance to win!

I like to keep cold food cold while I do my errands. This would be nice.

  • MO LaBranche
    January 26, 2020

Thanks it would be great for a few things.
A few stores in MA and stores in CT are banning plastic bags
But the best use is keeping frozen treats cold when grandpa brings a “treat” on every Friday night for “disco” time.
