  • Cut Crepe Knit skirt rectangle 36″ long, by the width waist measurement plus 6″.
Note From Team Nancy Zieman ProductionsBefore cutting skirt rectangle, wrap greatest stretch of fabric rectangle around waist and test-fit through hips. Mark rectangle skirt width with pins – with desired ease in mind. Reminder to allow 1/2″ extra for seam allowance.

  • Place elastic to skirt top, right sides together, aligning edges and matching quarter-markings. Pin.

Note From Team Nancy Zieman Productions Place pins parallel to cut edge–if you’ll be stitching with a serger.

  • Stretch elastic to meet fabric, and secure with additional pins.

Note From Team Nancy Zieman ProductionsSet sewing machine for a “wobble-stitch”: Choose a slight zigzag (2.0-2.5 length and .5 width). On the outside, this stitch will give the appearance of a straight stitch, while providing a slight amount of stretch to the seam! Or, choose a 4-thread overlock serger stitch. Now’s the perfect time to use that serger!

  • Stitch or serge seam with 1/4″ seam allowance, or use presser foot edge as a guide. Be sure to backstitch at seam beginning and ending.
