M7353 KnitDress NancyZieman 1 1My newest pattern with The McCall Pattern Company is in line with my sewing approach—easy styling with streamline sewing tips. M7353 is a top in three styles. Make the empire elastic-waist design in a couple lengths and change up the neckline with two included options—cowl and scoop neckline. Like other knit garments, this completed piece will be lightweight and travel well.

M7353 ENV NancyZiemanYou’ll find the pattern available at Nancy’s Notions or your local fabric shop.

Make this pattern as a top or dress. If you decide to cut your hem length somewhere in between top and dress, you’ll have a wonderful knit pull-over tunic to wear with leggings.

Sizes included with this collection range from pattern size 6–22.

M7353 ENV NancyZieman 2Find modern patterned knit fabrics at Nancy’s Notions. Depending upon your fabric choice—print or solid fabric—this quick-to-sew fashion can be made for daywear, your next vacation, casual lunch dates, or even evening wear.

M7353 KnitDress NancyZieman 2Easy Sewing Features

From the illustrations, you can see that the sewing time will be minimal. In fact, the dolman-sleeve style eliminates setting in sleeves. How speedy it that! Plus, I know you’ll enjoy my elastic casing technique; the elastic is sandwiched in the seam, eliminating the traditional topstitching step.

I would end up making the dress with the scoop neckline first, followed by all the other views. This answers to many needs. Quick and easy sewing, easy fit, stylish in a larger size and flattering. Thanks, Nancy!

I love it. I would make view A but increase the length to a tunic to wear with leggings. This would be great for a cool day in the classroom.

I love them all , but would start with A.

  • Carol
    March 5, 2016

I really like the cowl neckline since it is so flattering. The cowl neckline dress as well as a shortened version for a top would be nice to sew.

  • Janice

Looks cute and comfy. I first would make view A before moving on to make view C. Love it.

I’d love to make the scoop-neck dress. This is just the pattern I’m looking for.

  • Karen
    March 5, 2016

I like View A. Since my stomach area is my problem area, this would hide it well and be very flattering.

  • Margaret
    March 5, 2016

I don’t wear dresses much any more so if would be the top that I’d make. Like it as it would hide my tummy.

  • Marjie
    March 5, 2016

A friend of mine from Church gave me several yards of knit that she has had for a long time – she is no longer sewing and was cleaning out closets. This McCall pattern would be perfect for the knits I received, in both the top and the dress, especially with the cowl neck and I wear dresses to Church. Perfect. Thank you.

Love this pattern, but still have a problem with the double Ds I got after menopause. No matter what technique I try, it is impossible for my tops to look good, or be comfortable.

  • Shannon R.
    March 5, 2016

I would love to make dress C.
Thank you for the chance to win this pattern!

    March 5, 2016

I would love to have this pattern. Have been looking for a dress and/or top pattern that could be worn for everyday wear or dressed up to wear to outings. This is perfect. Not too baggy but loose enough to cover my extra pounds!

Spring break is coming up for me and thinking about adding a new item to my wardrobe. View C would be perfect to wear back to school.

    March 5, 2016

I love the pattern. Is there a secret to finding the perfect dress length for your body type?

  • Judy Kirkpatrick
    March 5, 2016

This is a very forgiving pattern and I’d use it often. Changing length of the dress and sleeve length, as well as fabric, and you could use this pattern many times!

  • Perri C.
    March 5, 2016

This pattern makes clothing that could look great on any figure. What a wonderful pattern that I could use again and again!

  • Earlene Ginter
    March 5, 2016

I have not wore a dress for along time (75 and to much weight)but think this would work, and have fabric that I never got sewen up! I made a cowl neck type on the biasto tight around the bust, but have a daughter who will get a new top.

  • Gail
    March 5, 2016

I like C, with the cowl neck. Very pretty. Thanks!

  • Candice
    March 5, 2016

Love this top. I have some fabric that I changed my mind on the pattern, so this is perfect! I have a dress pattern, from several sizes ago, that had dolman sleeves and I loved it – this is an added bonus! Even if I don’t win, I’m adding this to my pattern collection.

  • Maren

Another very vesatile pattern from Nancy….Love all three options. So many possibilities with this pattern. Would try the cowl neck dress first of all. And such simple sewing!

  • LoAnn Trowbridge

I think I would start out with the top–somewhere between the top length and tunic length.(Don’t do leggins–not a pretty sight! LOL)

  • Cathy

I really like this pattern. Two styles of dresses and a long top too! Looks pretty easy and quick to sew.

    March 5, 2016

This pattern is perfect for the general public, the pattern will complement people with a small figure and up. I really like the feature of not having to set in sleeves. Thank you

  • Miz Marsha in TN
    March 5, 2016

I love this pattern. I think I would make the top first because I don’t wear dresses very often. I would probably make the top a bit longer than the pattern shows but not as long as a tunic. Many years ago I did have a dress that was much like this and I did enjoy wearing it. If I like the tunic I might try the dress.

  • Judy
    March 5, 2016

I love this new pattern! It looks so breezy and comfortable. View C is the one I’d like to make.

  • Mary Ann
    March 5, 2016

I would like to make both the Dress (B and/or C) and the Top (A) for myself (retired) and my daughter (working) because they look easy and quick to sew and comfortable and easy to wear for both of us!

  • Rita Bell
    March 5, 2016

This is the pattern I have been waiting for. I will make View C in a tunic length for a cruise we are going on this summer.

    March 5, 2016

Oh my gosh, it has been years that I have sewn with knits! It used to be my favorite. I remember taking all those classes about knits. I still have all the books. Making this top would be wonderful to start out. Can’t wait!!!!!! Thank you. Patricia Greene

  • Wanda Romero
    March 5, 2016

Love this pattern. My sweet 96 year old Mother enjoys wearing dresses. This would be so easy for her to get on and she would look adorable in it. I think a Mother’s Day dress from this pattern is in her future.

  • Martha Hood
    March 5, 2016

Love this pattern – A would look great with jeans and dress slacks- think the B would look good for evening, with slacks also- thanks for these ideas

  • Jean Palionis
    March 5, 2016

This pattern is just what I need and right on time! I will certainly make more than one os the scoop neck dress in the shortre sleeve and a little longer hem line. Thank you so much for this pattern.

  • Pat Wolf
    March 5, 2016

Thank you for a stylish and versatile pattern. I’m trying to lose weight and this would work now and later as well. I love that you included a cowl neck. It looks cool for the summer but with the cowl neck it could also be made in a darker color for winter. I’m excited to try it!!! Again, thank you!

  • Helen Rejto
    March 5, 2016

This is a very versatile pattern which can be added to a wardrobe as a stable. I was planning to shop for a new pattern and was so delighted when I opened this e-mail. The shirt will be the most useful for me with the dresses running a close second.
    Thanks for the share!

  • Pat
    March 5, 2016

I would like to make the cowl neckline dress first. After that I think the scoop neck top would be next. The empire waist is so flattering. Thanks for the chance to win this pattern.

  • Marie Atkinson
    March 5, 2016

I love this pattern. I will start with c, preferably in material similar to b. I see this in dresses and blouses for me and for several of those I sew for. Once moved (happening next month) this pattern will be part of my collection.

  • Mary B
    March 5, 2016

So many ways to use this basic pattern. I’d make the top, I can wear with jeans, slacks, walking shorts, etc. I’m always looking for something easy to make and comfortable to travel in. Knits are perfect when seating in a car or on a plane for long periods of time.

  • Donna Wilson
    March 5, 2016

As a woman who has not worn a dress in years, I am excited to see this pattern that is forgiving and will look good on me as well as many others! The top version is cute and will also do camouflage.
Thanks for creating this pattern, Nancy, and also for the opportunity to win a copy.

  • Marcia C.
    March 5, 2016

I would make the top. Tried to sew knits when I was first learning to sew and was not successful. Now since I have been watching your program, I would like to try again.

  • Laura Spencer
    March 5, 2016

I like the pattern and if it was my size I would make the shirt. How come most pattern don’t come in bigger sizes. I know that this is up to 22 but I’m bigger by about 2 to 4 sized. I’m not good and making patterns bigger. They always come out misshaped.

  • Cindy Holthaus
    March 5, 2016

I would make the dress with a cowl neckline. It looks pretty easy to do and not have to spend a lot of time sewing before you can wear it.

  • Starla
    March 5, 2016

It’s beautiful as a dress, but I would make the top, since I rarely wear dresses.

  • Kathy Renz
    March 5, 2016

I like all the views but I would start with the cowl-neck dress.
    Thank you.

  • Mikey
    March 5, 2016

My preference would be View B. We love to cruise and it would be a perfect outfit to sew, pack, and wear.

  • Fran Johnson
    March 5, 2016

    Dear Nancy,

Love all views. I would probably make the top first. I may make the dress just a bit longer. 70+ knees are not a thing of beauty. Just finished M7252 with a cowl neck and love it. I think I would use all versions. Knits are so wonderful to sew.
Hope your health is continuing to improve. Love your TV show (yes, even after 30+ years) and your YouTube videos.
    Fran

It’s so nice to find a spring/summer pattern with sleeves! Not all of us are comfortable in sleeveless or cap sleeve clothing even in summer. Thanks, Nancy!

  • MimiHack
    March 5, 2016

Love the length of the sleeves in View A. Would lengthen View A for a tunic top to wear with leggings.

  • Deb J
    March 5, 2016

I think I’d make the cowl neck version. I like the finished look it gives. You could use a complementary fabric and it would look like a scarf.

  • Bonnie
    March 5, 2016

What a lovely pattern for the spring and summer! I would make the dress with a cowl collar. The style is easy to make and very versatile. Thanks for the great giveaway.

  • Lorij
    March 5, 2016

I like view B.best and I will make the top with out the cowl neckline with long sleeves for the summer out of light weight knit. I burn easy so this will be a great pattern .
It would be nice if it was sized for regular fabrics too. This would be a great dress for any type of fabric. But I think made in other fabrics it would have to have a zipper. It’s a great pattern.

  • Kay Coffin
    March 6, 2016

Love this pattern! I have a special knit that I purchased from Emma Seabrook that will look spectacular with this pattern!

  • Helen Wolfe
    March 6, 2016

I like B with a maxi length skirt and full length sleeves in a sweet lavender floral design. The empire waist will help cover the extra weight the past 20 years has put on me. I have doubled my 100 pound cutie 46 year old body weight. Now that my 60s are here I still want to look sweet and this design will do that.

  • Darlene B
    March 6, 2016

I would start with view A. If it looks okay on me I would love to make the dress as well. However I’d better get on the treadmill so my legs look better!

  • Janet Ulrich
    March 6, 2016

    I would make A and B – what a great pattern!

  • Lori M.
    March 6, 2016

I would do both A and C. I love the optional cowl.

  • Dorothy Herberg

  • ella ruth
    March 12, 2016

I would like to make the short version first. The dolman sleeves would be a lot easier than trying to set sleeves. I have trouble with fitting across my shoulders with set in sleeves. I think this would help and get me back to sewing clothes for myself. Thanks for sharing Nancy. : )

  • Sandy
    March 13, 2016

I’d like to make this as a long summer dress. I need sleeves even in the summer, both because I get chilly in air conditioning and because my arms are not my best feature (trying to find an inoffensive way to describe a problem that gets worse with every passing year). Thanks for remembering the great many women who don’t go sleeveless but still love long summer dresses!
