McCalls 7331 Nancy Zieman Knit collection
M7331,

I’ve had the honor of designing patterns for  The McCall Pattern Company since 1987 Styles have definitely changed, yet my sewing premise—easy styling with streamline sewing tips—remains the same. My newest pattern, M7331, is a perfect fit for my sewing criteriaa collection of comfortable knit garments that mix and match interchangeably. Plus, the styles are a breeze to sew.

You’ll find the pattern available at Nancy’s Notions or your local fabric shop.

The four pieces included in the pattern will work for casual wear, sportswear, and even business attire. Dress up the collection with high quality fashion knits or create popular active wear by choosing performance knit fabrics. Since each garment is knit, this group is fantastic to pack on your next holiday.

Sizes included with this collection range from pattern size six to 22.

McCalls 7331 Nancy Zieman Knit collectionI like to work with knits that have a hint (3–10%) of spandex or Lycra. The fabric recovers to its original shape. This is especially needed when sewing pants and skirts.

Would love to win the pattern. Definitely would make the ABC view since I LOVE skirts and do not wear pants ever!

I love the new pattern. I am new to knits and would honestly make all 4 pieces for work. I like the skirt and pants because it seems to be a yoga pant waist meaning no suppers or buttons!

I love this pattern! Knowing Nancy designed it, I am confident the instructions will be easy to follow and will be efficient too. I love to dress like this as I am a teacher and comfort and style are important. I would make the skirt and top. It would look trendy but not like I am trying to be a 25 year old!
Nancy, Can you please do a “Sew A Long” with this pattern?

    January 23, 2016

I think I would like to try the top and cardigan, maybe the pants. Have not sewed much on knits, but sure would like to accomplish that. Getting harder to buy already made clothes that fit right.

Love your patterns and books. I have been a “Nancy” follower forever. I would love to make a con those same colors.

I choose to stop sewing when my kids were small. This was around the time knit fabrics showed up. I love the ease of wearing knits. The kids are all grown up and my time is my own. I couldn’t think of a better way to start sewing knits than with this very modern looking pattern. Bravo Nancy. Can’t wait to try sewing these beautiful outfits.

As an incentive, I told myself I wouldn’t sew any clothes for me until I lost a few pounds but this pattern has got to be made!
(I can sew it again later a size smaller.)

Hi, I purchased a ready made knit jacket like this a few years ago with a matching tank top. I couldn’t begin to count how many times I have worn it. Knits are so comfortable for work and can look dressy. Also easy care. I will try this pattern for sure. I wish there was a short sleeve or tank pattern with it.

Glad to see knit patterns coming back around. They’re so comfortable to wear & EZ to sew.

I am rebuilding my wardrobe after being a stay at home mom after 5 years. I would like to begin with a few easy pieces and knit would provide comfortable, great looking pieces to interchange for more looks. With that, I love views A,B,C, but would definitely purchase the pattern if the pants pattern D were included. I have such a hard time finding and making clothes that actually fit me, that I have almost given up!
I am almost as wide as I am tall, because I’m only 4’10”, but I quit smoking 3 years ago and have gained 50 lbs!! It just kinda creeped up on me!
    This looks ideal for me.

  • Janet Wankowski
    January 23, 2016

I am downsizing preparing to retire at the end of the year. This means if the house sells quickly, I will be living in the motor home until I retire. Making these pieces with my Evolution Serger make it easy to wear to work.

  • Mary B
    January 23, 2016

I’d make them all in two fabric choices as shown. I’m taking a cruise and think this would be ideal. I’d also make a walking short too for the added versatility! With the right knit this would be a great travel wardrobe!

  • Martha
    January 23, 2016

I would go with A,B,D. I’m at that age where I want to look stylish but want to be sure everything is covered up. This is the perfect pattern. Just what I’ve been looking for. If I don’t win I will definitely be getting it at the fabric store.

  • Donna
    January 23, 2016

I work at a school and this set of clothing would help me streamline my preparation for work with the wrinkle free knits. I would start with sewing the jacket since that is the one item that makes a confident statement with kids. Thanks, Nancy!

  • Ronda Halvorsen
    January 23, 2016

SEW Excited for this new pattern. Nancy I really enjoy your patterns because of the extra tips and notes you add. This will definitely be my Spring has Sprung outfit… This also seems like a great pattern to start my niece off with!

  • ines
    January 23, 2016

I was given 15-20 yds. of lovely knit materials. – your pattern M7731 is the fit for great new wardrobe-ditch the thrice worn ages old mismatched clothes…..a sew along would be great to brush up on techniques

  • Joan Vinette
    January 23, 2016

I would make ABD views in two contrasting colors.

  • Nancy B

  • Chrysanthemum
    January 23, 2016

I’m back into sewing, and love using knits. Started making leggings for my granddaughter, “sew” tiny, “sew” fast, “sew” easy, and have moved into making leggings for myself. I will look for some knit fabric to mix and match and make some clothes for travelling this spring. I have three of your sewing books and love the look of these patterns… I’m thinking my daughter could use some new sweaters and skirts as well. So hopefully I will win!

  • Pat Kane
    January 23, 2016

Would love to try this pattern for travel wear! It looks like it would be perfect.

  • Jo D
    January 23, 2016

Definitely would make A view first…. Cause B would follow very close. I’ve ordered / bought tops with jackets and just did not like where the fell to on hip line. So, they were returned. Having my own ‘Nancy’ pattern would solve that problem. It looks just right!

  • Patti
    January 23, 2016

I would love to get into sewing knits and this looks the perfect place to start. I often wear light jackets as it is cold in my workplace and these look very nice.

  • Allen
    January 23, 2016

Love, love, love the cardigan and top!

  • Cynthia Thorn
    January 23, 2016

I haven’t sewn knits in years. I made all my clothes when I was in high school. They were mostly knits since it was the rage in the 70’s. I love the jacket and will make it first. Then the top. Would love to see a sew along Nancy with the pattern. I mainly quilt now, but will go back to the serger to try this pattern.

  • Dee
    January 23, 2016

I love the top (would like to do several colors) and the cardigan in navy.

  • Michele
    January 23, 2016

Oh good finally a pattern for the slinky knits. Can’t wait to get it as I have a whooooole bunch of slinky knit fabric. Love to wear them and very nice to travel with. No wrinkles.

I would love to make the Set A, B, D but am most interested in the top set… tee with cardigan.

  • Pat Forney
    January 23, 2016

I like all of the patterns. I especially would like to make the pants. Most of other patterns have wider legs and I’m not confident enough to try to slim them down.

  • Diane S.
    January 23, 2016

I like the entire package but especially the view A, cardigan. I am retired and love to live in t-shirt style tops so the view B, top could end up being a favorite.

  • Jo Vannieuwenhoven
    January 23, 2016

I have always had trouble with clothing fitting well and now that my size has changed it is even more difficult to find clothing that fits well. I am vertically challenged (short) and this adds to the problem. I have decided it is time to go back to sewing my own clothing. I have several events coming up this spring and summer including a graduation and several weddings. Time for something new!

  • Pat O.
    January 23, 2016

Love the cardigan–easy to sew and easy to wear.

  • Mary Ellen
    January 23, 2016

The cardigan with tee is perfect for me. I can picture it in blue; a favorite color for me.

  • Becky
    January 23, 2016

View A caught my eye at first, but then I fell in love with View B for the perfect spring suit for church and work. Best of all, I can make it long enough to fit well for this long-waisted gal!

  • Karen
    January 23, 2016

  • Barbara Basanti
    January 23, 2016

This is a great pattern! I especially love the jacket style, a little different than the norm and would probably make it and the tank up first. It is a great travel outfit but I do wish the pants were a little looser……these are not so great for my 60+ body!

  • Marsha R
    January 23, 2016

I love the whole pattern! If I had to pick one, it would be the jacket.

What a great pattern… I would make all of the combos !
    thanks for the giveaway.

  • Judy Holm
    January 23, 2016

I would make ABC in size 10. I would never make such narrow leg pants as they make big hips look bigger. I have been making my clothes since I was 12 years old. I am now 74. All my clothes are unique and many sport machine embroidery.

  • Helen Tankersley
    January 23, 2016

I would start with A B C and then sew the slacks. I have not sewn knit garments in many years. Thanks.

    Jacket and top please!

  • Kathy Renz
    January 23, 2016

I would love to make the top, pants, and jacket to start. I think I would like a multitude of jackets, in lots of colors, to go with everything. Would this be a good pattern to make on my serger? Then I can make them even faster!
This is a wonderful wardrobe pattern for work and vacation. Thank you, Nancy.

I would eventually make all views but would start with the jacket since jackets are my favorite thing to sew. I love being able to interchange pieces for more options to wear. This pattern is perfect for that.

    January 23, 2016

I would like to attempt to make the top and jacket to start. I want to learn to sew knits! I’ve bought lots of fabric but I’m afraid to pull the trigger.

Would love to make pants top & jacket. Love all the patterns so nice. Looks to be simple to make.

    January 23, 2016

After spending a week at the hospitals with two grandchildren seriously hurt in a head on car accident, I can tell you knits combos are great. This pattern is great for almost everything. I would make A and B with a more straight leg pant. By the way. Seat belts do save lives!!!!

    January 23, 2016

I would make all of these pieces in several coordinating colors. I travel a lot and these would make a perfect wardrobe for me. I love sewing my own clothes, and will be purchasing this pattern if I do not win it.

    January 24, 2016

I will definitely make the shirt and the cardigan. I am tall and prefer sewing my knit tops to make the body and the sleeves long enough.

  • Pat Scull
    January 24, 2016

I would make views A and B. I cannot use those skinny pant legs with my lymphodema legs.
    Love the tops!

  • Shirley Dehmer
    January 24, 2016

I would love to make the two tops, views A and B, for myself. I already have fabric and notions, but had not yet selected a pattern. The skirt and pants (views C and D) are cut too slim for my frumpy old lady body (unless my grand daughter would like me to make them for her). Thank you for the opportunity to be given a free pattern.

  • Ruby
    January 24, 2016

Just the pattern I’ve been looking for. I can’t believe all the coordinating views in one envelope. This is all I need to update my wardrobe.

  • Kathleen Waite
    January 24, 2016

I’d like to make A-B-C. This is just my style and working with knits is so easy with my serger.

  • Jean
    January 24, 2016

Marvelous selection of styles for knits that can be used for all ages and occasions, especially travel. All four would work nicely for dress up to casual and would easily work well for the beginner to the more experienced sewer. I like all four pieces.

  • T.Roberts
    January 24, 2016

Well done! Your new pattern is beautiful! Simple, fun yet very stylish! I love it in all it’s combinations! ABD is likely the one I’d make. The skirt would be great for a dinner date though. I really enjoy your site!

    January 24, 2016

What a wonderful pattern. I love that it has everything, jacket, pants, shirt and skirt! Its all in one pattern.

  • Marty
    January 24, 2016

Thanks, Nancy, top and jacket are perfect styles to wear to work or for casual events! I’ll lengthen the skirt abit (but the pants are too form-fitting for me or my daughter’s work use). I need to check your former pattern-fitting lessons to alter for my daughter’s tiny “00” (XXS) size.

    January 24, 2016

I would sew the very versatile top and jacket in the same fabric for a 2 piece set for spring.

I’m getting back to sewing after MANY years quilting and would love to sew myself a knit top and pants. They’d be a great basic to have in my ward one. That jacket will be the icing on the cake.

  • Patricia Burke
    January 24, 2016

What a smart set, A, B, maybe D or something not quite so form fitting in pants. (Another sixty something a little intimidated by close fitting pants). I went right to your 2013 two part series on sewing knits and reviewed. You have truly improved my sewing confidence over the years, Nancy, and I thank you.

    January 24, 2016

This is a very stylish pattern, I would like to make the skirt, the blouse and Jacket. Looks easy and with knit fabric, should be easy. Cecilia

    January 24, 2016

I love this casual combination of knits. I think I would make the entire wardrobe, with some minor alterations to lower the neckline of the shirt to a scoop or v-neck and probably remove the cuffs from the pant (although the cuffs are a nice detail for summer). The relaxed jacket and the three-quarter sleeves on the shirt are flattering choices. The wide waist yoke on the bottoms should make fitting adjustments easier. What a great basic knit pattern.

This would be the perfect wardrobe for our spring road trip. It has everything you would need for a small interchangeable group of clothing. I would make a few pieces in other color to have different looks. It is finally a modern look for 2016. I love sewing knits.

    January 25, 2016

I have been sewing for 3 granddaughters and now, I’m starting to sew again for myself,. I want to make the top and pants for a getaway weekend for our anniversary. Haven’t used knits in a while, so time to relearn. Thanks Nancy.

  • Chris
    January 25, 2016

Those tight skinny pants would only look good on one type of youthful figure.

Would you please design some outfit collections like these for the four different types of figures?? Apple type, rectangle type, pear type, etc.?? Please???

Where can I find a supply of knit fabrics to make that great pattern?
Local stores – JoAnn’s, Hancock, Hobby Lobby do not carry a supply of good knit fabrics? I am looking for quality fabric! Connie

  • Linda
    January 25, 2016

I love mix and match and the material selected – stretchy! I’ve lost a lot of weight and will wear all of these pieces, my favorite will be the pants and top though. I am an hour glass (emphasize narrow in middle) figure. I’ve seen a comment about different shapes and not being able to wear these items. With a little “tweaking” like Nancy Z. has shown us, also I grew up with a mom showing me…..I believe these items can be worn on various women’s shapes. Nancy Z., maybe you can help some of the women with your new pattern on your show how to alter the pattern for different body shapes. What do you think of that suggestion Nancy Z.? Of course, I’d LOVE to win the FREE pattern 🙂

    January 26, 2016

Yeah, knit is back; I love sewing with knit have not sewed with knit for quite a while definitely need to get this pattern. This pattern will look good on anyone too. I actually inherited a whole bunch of the slinky knit and some beautiful cotton and cotton blends; really need to get my car fixed fast so can get to the store! A deer ran right into me after he jumped the fence; took the mirror right off and now the drivers door doesn’t open and has a big dent in it and so does the fender of the car. Thank goodness for safety glass. But I digress.
Thank you Nancy for the new pattern!

    January 27, 2016

This looks like such a nice pattern for wordrobe building. I just bought a lovely knit in a dark teal, it would be pretty sewed up into the top and skirt for a cute two piece dress.

    January 18, 2017

I love this pattern. Have arthritis so enjoy soft, easy to pull on clothes. I would make ABD with two different fabric/color versions of A and B. Am looking at easy care travel options with fabric that has enough body to not show every ripple and roll! Maybe I would make the second version of D, too, for a multitude of options!

The pattern caught my eye right away on my Pinterest email. I like ALL six views. At my age I really like the length of the sleeves living in a warm climate I do not want a full length sleeve. I will buy this pattern.
