The Flying Sewing Machine Book by Nancy ZiemanThere is a town nestled by the river not too far away,

Where magic happens in mid afternoon each and every day.

The Flying Sewing Machine Children's Book by Nancy Zieman

This place is much different from most cities or towns.

Besides the usual people and pets, sewing machines fly around!

The Flying Sewing Machine Book by Nancy ZiemanAt first glance this town called Sewland seems a normal place to gather.

There are stores, churches, and schools, so nothing seems to be the matter.

The Flying Sewing Machine Book by Nancy ZiemanBut at a quarter of two each day of the week,

The town takes a creative break to sew something neat.

The Flying Sewing Machine Book by Nancy Zieman

You’ll need to read the book, to find out what happens next,

As we don’t want the blame for exposing the rest!

The Flying Sewing Machine Book by Nancy ZiemanNancy enjoyed sewing with her granddaughters so much, that she was inspired to write a children’s book with a sewing theme. Our friend Philip Ashby created the amazing illustrations. Nancy’s entertaining story about a fictional town named Sewland is showcased in The Flying Sewing Machine book, and is now available at Nancy’s Notions.

The Flying Sewing Machine Book by Nancy ZiemanToday would have been Nancy’s 65th birthday. We’re honored to continue her legacy and  celebrate Nancy and her many contributions to the sewing world, her elegant style and gracious living. We hope you enjoy reading The Flying Sewing Machine book to your little ones, as much as Nancy enjoyed reading the book to Avery, Luella, and Adeline.

She was such an inspiration and leaves a wonderful legacy. What a great idea to inspire children and I would to read it myself. I have a 4 year old granddaughter that loves to help me sew now. Regardless if its embroidery or making her doll clothes or quilts, she is fascinated. Her love of books began at birth and this is a must for her. Nancy is greatly missed by all. My granddaughter is by my side while I continue watching her shows.

I love my birthday! I will never forget ordering Nancy’s book “Seams Unlikely” for my birthday when it first came out as a gift from my husband. The customer service rep said it wouldn’t be sent until February (my birthday is in Jan). I don’t know what kind of magic happened but the book arrived on my birthday, January 18!!
Nancy – I will never ever forget you. You continue to be an inspiration and the true meaning of kindness.
Happy Birthday my friend, with much love.

My heart is heavy each time I’m reminded how she left us too soon but my heart also leaps with joy to see each facet of her legacy continue to inspire and motivate old and new devotees. Nancy was such a treasure. Every time I sew, I pause to think of how Nancy would accomplish the step I’m on. She had a way of making everything easier. Nancy was such a great person. She even made my husband (who also watched “Nancy’s Notions” show with me) and went to her sewing seminars! He spent time in the store and spent time visiting with Nancy and asking her questions about things for sale in the store that he had seen on the TV show. It was he that suggested we take another road trip from Iowa to Beaver Dam to “shop”! What he had in mind was a Koala cabinet! Wow! Nancy spent time with him personally explaining all about it – and he, as a hobby woodworker, was so impressed by the quality of the workmanship I went home as a proud owner of the largest Koala cabinet and the wonderful chair. I could hardly contain myself waiting for the delivery!
I loved going to Nancy’s May Seminars, and we usually spent Bud’s birthday , around May 7, with him in a motel and me at Nancy’s!
Happy Birthday to Nancy and love to her family for sharing her with us in the store and on TV for so long!

I have learned so much and been inspired by Nancy. Her passing has left a big empty spot here on earth. I have been teaching my grandkids to sew with some of her products. We especially like using the “finger guard” foot and her hints teaching us easier ways to sew. I have 10 beautiful grandkids and each would enjoy reading this book with me. Nancy helped me make wonderful memories with my kids and grandkids. Enjoy your birthday in Heaven Nancy.

My oldest great-granddaughter loves to have someone read to her. She will be 6 in November and I plan to introduce sewing by then. She is so crafty already and sewing will open up a new way to express herself. Once she learns to read, she will no doubt read her book to her two younger sisters and her baby brother. She is so anxious to learn to read. This would be a wonderful treat for her.

    June 21, 2018

It was so sweet to see her reading with her granddaughters, especially thinking what terrible pain she might have been in. I know about the pain of cancer. I recently read her farewell and cried the whole time. I’d love to have a copy of her book to share with my great granddaughters.
I’ve watched her show from the beginning, I’ve watched others with sewing shows on public broadcasting, but none were like Sewing With Nancy. She made me feel like she knew me, knew the problems I might have with whatever technique she was teaching. And even when she had a guest on the show she acted like we were all together just having a little sew-along.
She was one of a kind and will forever be missed. My most heartfelt condolences to her family, friends and those she worked closely with.

    June 21, 2018

I would love to have a copy of this book. I have 6 grandchildren and 4 are girls ages 10 to 17 months. Nancy was a very special person. She inspired the best in everyone. I never met her in person, but began watching her as a young mother. My own mother loved watching her too. She passed away in 2004, less than 3 weeks after we moved back to Indiana from South Carolina to be near to help her. She had cancer too. It saddened me deeply when I learned that Nancy’s cancer had returned and there was nothing to do. I prayed for a miracle for her. My deep faith has always kept me going. God loves us and its comforting to know that she is with him. I still love watching Nancy’s show and hope that it continues. Thank you all.

She has always been my role model. I wanted to be just like her. I consider myself a pretty good sewing artist but she always had more for me to learn. I miss her so much.

Oh, too have been as creative and accomplished as she! I hope to inspire my one granddaughter with an iota of what Nancy’s were blessed.

Nancy was an inspiration to so many. She is missed, but her legacy stands as a great lady who contributed so much to the sewing world.

Happy 65th Nancy! Much too young to have left us.
Looking at all the messages, I know that Nancy is still alive in the hearts of many, including mine.
I look forward to reading her book to my great-granddaughters. My oldest is 12 this year and is already making quilts for her dolls.
I would love to see all of Nancy’s shows, in order, beginning with the first and going all the way to the last.
Just like all the women posting before me, I would love to win.

Happy birthday Nancy! Wish you were here!

I love how she combined two of my favorite pastimes, sewing and reading. I can’t wait to see how the book ends! 🙂

I am very thankful and happy that, I had the show “Sewing Nancy” to show me how to sew things very easily. I loved how she would explain things so well and make everything look like I could do it also.

I feel like I lost a true friend and sewing buddy when Nancy left us. I’ve sewed all my life – I started when I was nine and I still do sew but I learned so much from watching Nancy on TV and reading her books. I still watch the TV shows on reruns but it’s just not the same. I sure do miss you sewing buddy. Happy Birthday -wish you were still here – rest in peace.

Nancy’s legacy lives through her shows and books and we are fortunate to be have been touched by her inspirational magic in the art of sewing. The book captures that spirit and joy of this art. Like many others, my 7 year old granddaugter would appreciate reading about the specialness of sewing that Grandma enjoys.

Always enjoyed Nancys expertise. She taught me my sewing skills, and educated me about all the wonderful charities the sewing community supports. MIss you Nancy. The book is adorable, too.
