1 NancyZieman FabricBins 2As you may already know, I love to streamline and simplify the sewing process. Making projects faster and more efficient frees up valuable time, and everyone could use more time! One of my most popular Sewing With Nancy three-part series, Sew Simple with Rectangles & Squares (Part OnePart Two, and Part Three), addresses streamlining the sewing process. Change the way you think about projects and patterns. Everything demonstrated is simply cut from rectangles and squares!

Fabric Bins

Don’t settle for tan or black bins for your shelf, customize fabric bins to accent your home décor by selecting coordinating fabrics. Made from, you guessed it, rectangle and square fabric pieces. The sewing is enjoyable and the end result is as fresh in appearance as it is useful. Grommets serve as both handles and a focal point.

The Travel Trio

During this first episode, learn how to create a weekender tote, cosmetic bag, and luggage saddlebag. This travel trio is made using comparable sewing steps, straight stitching, and double-sided quilted fabrics.

Cosmetic Bag

Even if you’ve never sewn before, you can stitch this bag! On Sew Simple with Rectangles & Squares we’ll review the construction steps together, and making this bag will be a breeze.

Weekender Tote

After making a simple cosmetic bag, apply many of the same sewing steps to create a Weekender Tote. It’s a super-sized bag with the addition of sturdy straps and double pockets.

Sewing With Nancy Trivia—This photo was quickly taken on the Sewing With Nancy set. Notice the tape on the floor? Those are the positioning marks for my chair in the Nancy’s Corner area. We had to move the chair in order to take the photo. Now you see how we keep all our props and furniture in the right place!

Hold-it Sacks

The Hold-it Sacks are my first sew-simple projects in Part Two of Sew Simple with Rectangles & Squares. Prop up your cell phone or electronic tablet in the cradle area of a Hold-it Sack. Made from laminated fabric, they’re ideal to use throughout your home or office. The unique finished shapes appear as if they were made from complicated patterns, but not these gadget holders. They’re all made from rectangular shapes.

Mini Fabric Sacks

Toss them in a game or use them to hold down pattern pieces, these Mini Fabric Sacks can be both fun and functional. You can easily make three mini sacks in an hour or less.

I badly need to organise my kitchen/diner/sewing room. I have lots of scraps and when I first watched the series Sew Simple with Rectangles & Squares I thought about using the techniques there to do something about “my mess” This post may just be the push I need to get going! Thank you.

My sewing room could be much tidier and colour coordinated with rectangle and square bins.

    February 9, 2017

These bins would be perfect in my guest room, but in addition to that, I would also make them for my daughter who is expecting our first grandchild in April. As future children come along, I would use these to make individualized, organizational boxes for the children.

What a nice tidy way to put things away, allowing the room to look organized and put together.

Organizing my sewing area is a must, but the ideas can also be used for my genealogical materials, my linen closet, bathrooms, and family room.

I am so glad to have the time to create these items with help from Nancy Zieman. 🙂

I just moved and could really use some more storage options in my new sewing room. Think these would be just right.

    February 9, 2017

I could use these in every room! They would be great for toys and books in my daughters room, towels or lotions in the bathroom, patterns and notions in my sewing area, would be a good place to put mail, or essential oils. I have countless ideas for these!

I use bins in my sewing room and always need more. I use them for sorting useable/saved scraps. With a few more bins I could keep more creative pieces! Would be even better if I had some bins that matched or were a theme to make my “comfort zone” in my little sewing world.

I would use these rectangle boxes in my master bathroom organizing my hand towels, makeup, over the counter medications, etc. I can see how it would really dress the room up. I would also like to make the phone and tablet rectangle. Thank you.

I had thought about using the bins in my sewing/dining room. I have built in bookshelves and I thought about changing from a bookshelf to a place where I can organize my fabrics where they would be easier to get to, but I could also use them as my portable office since I do some “work from home”.

I think I’m going to use fabric bins in my kitchen to corral all of the plastic food storage containers. Hmm, now that I think of it, since I have insufficient storage space in my cabinets, maybe some wall pockets too….

Storage is a constant challenge for our family. Your storage bin ideas would be most used by me in my office and adjacent Family room for my sewing and crochet projects plus related books, magazines, etc. Also, I would make storage bins for my hubby’s Special Education High School classroom in a learning center – maybe start a trend! 🙂

I would sew the organizing bins in this order:
    1. The kid’s rooms! they have LOTS of Tshirts and this would make really pretty storage for their rooms. ( And when they go to College in a few years, they can take them along with them!
    2. Our bedroom- My husband wears “workshirts” and they are all over the shelf in the closet. These bins would help organize he mess.
    3. Sewing room- The bins can be used to help organize tools for various crafts, paintes, etc. I would make the paint bins out of oil cloth so they would be easy to clean.
    4. Kitchen and the rest of the house- The bins would work nicely on shelves in my kitchen to keep small bags of rice, coconut, seansoning packets, etc in order.

THANKS Nancy For More great organizing ideas!

I can’t imagine a place these wouldn’t be helpful. Sewing room, living room for videos, den for mail, bathroom and more. How about with laminated fabric? In our camper!!! I’m getting excited just thinking of all the ways to use them!

I would use bins in my She Shed, aka Sewing Room. Nancy, you make it look easy, easy enough even for me.

  • Diana W.
    February 9, 2017

These boxes would be so useful all over my house, but I’m thinking a couple of them in the trunk of my car would come in handy. One for corralling the water and dog dishes for the dogs, another for the odds & ends that seem to collect, another to gather all the totes we use to put groceries in at the store. Different sizes for different boxes. Then there are many places in my house to use them, too.

  • Cindy M
    February 9, 2017

I can think of numerous rooms in which to use these! I’m in the process of turning an extra room into my own personal sewing/crafting room and these would work out great on the new shelves I just built!!

I’ll be moving soon so these fabric boxes inspire me to start my new home with coordinated organizers. The first room I would begin with is the room that has the most to organize and is the most welcoming to home-sewn projects – my sewing room.

We built a new home as we retired and these bins and storage units would “dress” my sewing room very nicely. My DH put shelving on two walls plus a fabric pantry. These units would be the finish touch. Thank you, Nancy, for your wonderful “bag of tools.”

These fabric bins would be perfect for my two-year old grand-daughter’s collection of Duplos, not to mention her other small toys. February 9, 2017

I need fabric bins throughout my house! Most – in terms of numbers – would be the sewing room. Most – in terms of most frequent use in-and-out – would be the den, storing my new puppy’s toys and chewies.

  • Sherry Bartlett
    February 9, 2017

I could use them everywhere, but especially in my sewing/craft room to hold fabric and supplies. Maybe some of the wall bins to hold patterns and tools I use often. Also, maybe in my kitchen to keep the mail organized and off the counter. I’m sure there are many other uses I will find for these. I especially am interested in the saddlebag for luggage. That would be a dream!

I’m “sew” glad our PBS affiliate is now broadcasting Sewing with Nancy twice a week. I’ve followed Nancy from the beginning, my sewing & quilting has really benefitted from all the tips. I can’t wait to make some wall pockets, they’re so much more attractive than hard plastics from office suppliers. What a wonderful way to add storage!

These have sewing/craft room written all over them. That’s where I would use them. However, they would be great in the bathroom also.

  • Anita Phelps
    February 9, 2017

It is more “where wouldn’t I use these”. They would be great for my “ufo” projects that need to stay organized and my “future projects” that I’m collecting materials for. The bathroom cupboards that need to be organized from all the “goodies” the grown kids leave behind but might want the next time they visit, the kitchen counter could use a catch-all, and my bedroom and living room could use something to hold magazines I peruse through. Even the car could use something for holding kleenex, snacks, or even garbage.

I definitely need to do something different with my grandkids toys, coloring books, etc. The covered plastic bins just don’t work any more. I think these storage bins would be great, Nancy. I’d love to have your book!

Home uses abound, but I think of my kindergarten classroom when I see these! Bins for books that coordinate with my reading group colors, a cute place to corral glue sticks and crayons, a bin for each day with all of my materials for that day in one place, bins to replace the piles on my desk, bins to store holiday themed items… These wouldn’t crack like the plastic ones, wouldn’t make noise as children move them around, and the opportunities to coordinate fabrics with contents for emerging readers si awesome!

My sewing room! And probably my bedroom closet and other closets. And my kitchen too!
I love to make fabric boxes and I give them away for Christmas filled with goodies. And for birthdays too.

I’ve seen the fabric totes mentioned on other sites, but this is the first time I’ve finally been inspired! Naturally the sewing room, where I especially need a small one for my usb’s, and then in my computer room (spare room!) for the computer discs. No more shopping for plastic storage boxes!!

Are you kidding? Where would I NOT use them? First ones in the laundry room where my cooking magazines are out of control. Next ones in my husband’s office…nuf said. My sewing room would get a much needed organizational lift. Then on to the kids’ rooms to tame the closet, toy, and book messes. My bedroom would finally have a pretty place for glasses, journals, and books. I gotta get this book!!!

I am not sure where I would use them the most, but I need them at our family room chairs, my sewing room, and most definitely in our tiny house travel trailer that is only 5’x11′. Despite its small size it was a wonderful home during the quilt expo last year. My husband is also a crafter just with wood not cloth!

    February 9, 2017

I would use them in my daughter’s room. She needs to be able to get to her socks and underwear. She would also be helpful in putting laundry away if she had cute baskets for them.

I could see myself using these fabric bins EVERYWHERE. I live in a small one-bedroom condo and decent looking storage would be so wonderful!!!

My sewing room is the first place I would use them, but also my TV space,I like to do hexi’s while I watch TV in the evening. I don’t think there is a place in my home that doesn’t need some origination, what an attractive way to do so. Thanks so much for this giveaway!

Oh those bins are so lovely. I can already see my sewing space cleared up and looking so organized. If I do not win the book, I must buy the book. Thanks for my copy!

    February 9, 2017

I would use the fabric bins in my bathroom where I have plenty of cupboard space but minimal drawer space for little things like hair goodies. What drawers I do have could use fabric bins as drawer organizers so that they don’t seem so much like “junk” drawers!

  • Nancy
    February 9, 2017

I would use them in my sewing area…. thanks for the great giveaway!

    February 9, 2017

I love the episode for “rectangles and squares”, I’ve watched it so many times! I am planning on making the “hold-it sacks” for my daughters for Christmas, and the “mini fabric sacks” for holding down patterns and keeping books open “hands-free”! My daughters have both asked for the fabric bins, so the first ones I would make would most likely go to organize my teens’ room/craft areas. Thanks for all the great ideas!

    February 9, 2017

I would use the fabric bins most in my sewing area and in my bedroom. I just wish there were more choices of double-faced quilted fabrics available. I would give almost anything (not my grandchildren) to find some of the black with pink and green fabric that Nancy used for her travel bags!

  • Chris
    February 9, 2017

I currently have my scraps in a box in plastic bags. They are sorted by color but I need a better storage solution. The bins seem like a great idea.

    February 9, 2017

My son is adopting a boy, Steve, and has purchased a cubicle cupboard from IKEA for his toys, clothes, etc. I think it would be fun to make the fabric bins in children’s prints. I understand he likes Legos so I think it would be a wonderful way to welcome him to our family.

  • Sheryl Jones
    February 9, 2017

I would use them in my sewing room, but they would also make great storage for the family room to keep things out of sight. Thanks for the giveaway.

I am planning to redecorate my craft room this summer and would love to make some of the Fabric Bins and Wall Pockets in colors to match my room. I also am planning to build new nightstands in our bedroom and would make the Fabric Bins as drawers. The Weekender Tote would be fun to make for a bridal shower and fill with fun honeymoon gifts.

    February 9, 2017

I would use these bins in my sewing/craft room. All yarn would be separated and stored by color. My linen closet would have bins for lotions, nail polish, hair accessories, and the various tweezers, nail files and clippers. Easy to find and always where it/they should be.That would be my dream come true.

  • Linda Kau
    February 9, 2017

I see many uses for the fabric bins; sewing room, office, bathroom to name a few. I can see one in the car to hold some of the kids’ traveling entertainment things, too.

    February 9, 2017

Storage is limited in an RV and this would be a wonderful way to store so many thing in plain sight! I would try to design a bin that separates glasses/mugs/crystal so they wouldn’t break during travel.

The most obvious is my sewing room but I think my bedroom drawers for socks, hose etc.

  • Michelle Hall

I am slowly purging and reorganizing my craft space. I am starting to believe that ‘less is more’. Acquiring this book would not only help with storing things, it will also make my ‘happy space’ beautiful. Thanks for the opportunity to win this prize.

I would organize just about every room. Start at the craft/sewing room, work around each room and end with my photos. I have lots of photos that I just can’t seem to toss out. (You know the blurry and to far away shots… But I know who they are) I also have a camper. The baskets would be perfect in there. Thank you for the wonderful ideas.

I would use my bins in as my husband said: “My Woman Cave”.

I have two machines set up in the basement. On my table, I have three storage container. One has no handles, one with handles and the other one will have grommets on it. I saw the show with the fabric bins and made one. The grommets give it that added color. Now to put them in.

  • Linda Willshon
    February 10, 2017

I would use the square and rectangle containers mainly in my sewing room to keep fabric and tools organized and accessible. I would also use them to put the contents of my purse in at the end of the day. That way I could quickly see what I have the next day to take with me. They also would be good bathroom organizers for hand towels and cosmetics, brushes, etc.

  • Carol
    February 10, 2017

These look so nice! I would use them in the family room for remotes, coasters, etc. Two of them would coordinate and be a nice way to organize “stuff”. Of course they would be great in my sewing room also.

  • Jan Spitzer
    February 10, 2017

The storage bins would definitely help to organize my sewing room but I would also use them in my RV. Were are gone for 6 months and I take my machines with. Would help to hold projects and items for sewing.

    February 11, 2017

I live in a very small home with little storage, so I would make many of these project items to keep things organized in an attractive manner so the lack of closets and cupboards would not be a problem. They look so fun and fresh!

    February 13, 2017

I would make fabric bins for our granddaughter’s room for when she comes to visit. She has so many odds and ends and no real place to put them so she can find them when she needs them, and when it’s time to pack up to go home. Mind you, she’d probably take the bins home, too, but that’s O.K., I can always make more!

    February 27, 2017

These bins would be awesome gifts at the many baby shows I attend. Being retired and an avid sewer, I’m often asked by family to make the baby’s room décor, like crib sheets, skirts, railing protectors and quilts. I’ve never thought to try storage bins to coordinate too. How awesome! I love this idea.
