Quilts of Valor

Admirable and honorable—that’s my solid impression of the mission and character of the organization Quilts of Valor and the thousands of people who give of their time and talents to help injured Armed Service Members. Karen Demaree, one of the Quilts of Valor volunteers, was my guest during the Nancy’s Corner Segment on Sewing With Nancy. If you don’t already know about Quilts of Valor, here’s an introduction.

The Quilts of Valor Mission

This group of thousands of volunteers makes and presents quilts to wounded and injured Armed Service Members and their families. Their mission is to cover all those service members and veterans touched by war with a Quilt of Valor (QOV). These quilts measure 55″ x 65″ to 72″ x 87″ and are made of only the best quality fabrics. To date over thousands of quilts have been presented, and the number grows every day.

Watch my interview with QOV representative online

As most of you who read this blog know, Sewing With Nancy shows—52 in total— are available online as well as on PBS and through DVD. My interview with Karen is only five minutes long, yet it’s very telling. After watching, I know you’ll plan a way that you can help the QOV cause.

How you can help

My initial thought was to list all the ways that you can help with this noble and worthy cause. Then I realized, why repeat what’s already done! The Quilts of Valor website says it all.

Quilts of Valor Inspiration

At an earlier Nancy’s Notions Sewing Weekend, fifty quilts were donated and displayed. It was a touching exhibit. You can tell that these quilts were sewn with love! See even more inspiring photos on Instagram searching for the hashtag #quiltsofvalor.
