Red, White & Blue Fun and Creative Projects
Check out our June Project Round up featuring projects in Red, White, and Blue!
Two Scarf Wrap
Sometimes two identical scarves are just waiting for you to buy, take home, and sew only two seams. As Bobbie Jo can attest, the end wrap is delightful to wear! Watch All Occasion Fabric Wraps (Part One and Part Two) on Sewing With Nancy online.
Tumbler Flag Quilt designed by Linda Coon
Sewing With Nancy viewers often email photos of their creative works. Nancy’s team loves seeing what you create! The image of the Tumbler Flag Quilt caught our attention and we knew you’d like to see it too. It was designed and made by Linda Coon from Louisiana, who caught the quilting bug a few years ago and hasn’t stop quilting. Linda agreed to share her quilting tutorial. Simple to Chic T-Shirt Remakes
Knit tops are a wardrobe basic; most of us live in them. After awhile, the style can get, well, boring! Welcome to Simple to Chic T-Shirt Remakes with Eileen Roche, a Sewing With Nancy 2-part TV series. Watch online or on PBS. During this first episode, learn how to transform the common knit shirt into a fresh and smart-looking fashion. Embroidery machine designs are the key to adding embellishment and also the neckline transformation. It’s rather marvelous how it all happens. Colorful Bean Bag Toss Project
One of American families favorite outdoor games goes by quite a few names, but in short can be called bean bag toss. What would the game be with out festive, colorful bags? This is a perfect afternoon sewing project to create with kids. Then, go have some backyard fun. Watch The Absolute Easiest Way to Sew on Sewing With Nancy online.
Absolute Easiest Way to Sew Pillow Corners
A complete sewing tutorial to create the blue lattice pillow can be found here. It includes an envelope pillow back and wrapped corners. This episode will focus on the wrapped corners, which can be easily applied to any pillow project. Watch Part Two of The Absolute Easiest Way to Sew Series on Sewing With Nancy.
Shirt Sleeve Gift Bag
They’ll call you clever when you arrive with a gift in this unique bag. Make a bag handle from another piece of the shirt, or use a shirt collar for the handle. The rust colored bag handle is a piece of the shirt placket. Check your closets for potential “fabric” for Sew Green Makeovers by Mary Mulari.
Which one of the above projects are you going to make first? Leave your answer in the comments for a chance to receive a copy of the book and DVD set, The Absolute Easiest Way to Sew from Nancy’s Notions.
The winner of the I Sew For Fun Click Print Stitch Software from Eileen Roche and DIME, from the June 2 post, is Bev M.
Her comment is: Wow. This would be great for beginning 4-H sewers and for my granddaughter. I would probably start with the star skirt, because it is similar to the first year 4-H elastic waist skirt project.
Happy Sewing,

Susan Spiers
Loving the T-shirt Remakes! What a wonderful giveaway! Thank you, Susan
Joyce West
I would start with the scarf project. The shirt sleeve bags would be a quick project for a gift.
Lani
I would love to have The Absolutely Easiest Way to Sew book and dvd set. I live in FL and my granddaughter lives in GA. I am teaching her to sew but am not with her all the time. This set would be a perfect reference guide for her when I am not there (she is 13). She is the only one in the family who has expressed interest in sewing and I am anxious to pass this craft on to her!
BevM
I would love to upgrade t-shirts with machine embroidery necklines.
Jan C
I like the clever sleeve idea. It is what you can do after you make the shirt apron.
Lois
I would probably make the 2 scarf wrap first, but those shirt sleeve gift bags are really a great recycle idea.
Jade
I am new to embroidery and having so much fun learning new techniques….so can’t wait to try the t-shirt remake.
Noreen

Ilene Abbas
I’m going to get started with cute sleeve gift bags!

I would make the shirt sleeve bags. That way I could use my late husbands shirts and make gift bags for all my grand children as a memory for them of Grandpa.
Bonnie Shaul
O would do scarfs. I already sew infinity scarfs.
Elva Spetz
I want to try the flag quilt for a donation to the High ground veterans memorial park raffle event next fall!
Rosalind Gutierrez
The patriotic bug bit me so the Tumbler Flag quilt is my first choice to make.
Kathleen Isaacson
No matter how long you have been sewing, there is always more to learn. The Absolute Easiest Way to Sew would probably be good for both beginners and those more experienced.
Clovis
Simple to chic t-shirt shirt looks very lovely to make. Embroidery designs would look fabulous. Thanks for the chance to win.
Carolyn Novy
I would start with “The Absolute Easiest Way to Sew Pillow Covers”. With a small amount of fabric(expense), I will be able to sew a different set of covers for each season/holiday.
Lynda Hines
Shirt Sleeve gift bag, It looks awesome, what a way to use shirts instead of throwing them out!!
Charlotte Meador
I will sew the flag. Love the tumblers.

Phyllis Weichbrod
Love the sleeve bags ,so neat !
Karen
I would definitely use the sleeves to make wine bottle bags. They look like so much fun to make, especially the one with the placket for the handle! One could use the pants leg as well to carry a bigger bottle like a 2 liter bottle to a picnic or a jug of tea/margaritas!
E. Watson
I just made bean bags for a Memorial Day game, but realistically, I would probably make more bean bags first. However, I really like the tumbler flag quilt! 🙂
Sarah
For Memorial Day I made bean bags for a game we played. I enjoyed that they were a quick and easy project.
Susan
Beanbags (my brother has been asking for a year!) and sleeve gift bags. I have an ottoman full of dress shirts, like new but no longer worn by my husband, that I have been itching to make something really cool with! Thanks! I love the Stars dedicated to Nancy. She sparked my passion for sewing.
Ann Benton
Would love to make the quilt for a gentleman at our church who has become my surrogate grandfather. He is very proud of his military history and has just celebrated his 93rd birthday. Still spry and alert and does crafts as well (Leatherwork and caning which is almost a lost art) Thanks for the posts!
