NEW! Farmhouse Florals Pattern: Shiplap Ahoy

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

ShiplapAhoy Multi 1

Each block in the NEW! Shiplap Ahoy Quilts Pattern is created simply and it’s possible to make every single block unique. Using methods for Nancy Zieman’s Folded Flying Geese, Shiplap Ahoy features the five shiplap prints to create blocks. Using three or four background strips, each block will have three-dimensional triangles (geese) and various locations. We think you’ll enjoy the results when you stitch the new Shiplap Ahoy Quilts.

ShiplapAhoy1

The quilt design features yardage from Nancy’s new  fabric line, Farmhouse Florals by Penny Rose Fabrics, a division of Riley Blake Designs. Make the quilt using  Farmhouse Florals or sew the design in your favorite light, medium, and dark fabric values.

Colors

Create this quilt in two different sizes and two different color palettes. The multicolor, bed-sized quilt features all five shiplap fabrics as blocks’ backgrounds. The small lap-size quilt features a more monochromatic design focusing on blue, cream, and white.

Fold and Stitch Techniques

The flying geese showcased in each quilt are easily creating by using Nancy Zieman’s Fold and Stitch Technique. Each triangle is three-dimensional unless you opt to stitch down the right and left sides of the shape. Here’s a sneak peek at the folding:

  • Cut assorted squares using the size chart listed in the Shiplap Ahoy pattern.
  • Fold the squares in half, matching wrong sides.
FoldTriangle
  • Meet the folded corners from cut edge to the center, as shown. Press.

The Blocks

Blocks in this quilt are created using three or four background strips and an assorted number of prepared folded triangle geese. The nature of this style of construction will give every single quilter a truly unique design. Team Nancy Zieman cannot wait to see your quilts!

Create a total of 20 blocks for the lap-size quilt and 30 blocks for the bed-size quilt. You’ll be pleased with how quickly these stitch together.

BlockB SeamsWhen you finish your quilt, send a picture to [email protected] to share it with Team Nancy Zieman and friends.

The blue and white quilt is such a classic quilt, calming and relaxing. I can see myself spreading this quilt on the beach sand in the evening to watch the waves as the sunset reflects in the water. This is the quilt I would choose.

The first picture of this post, the fat quarters, remind me of the fabrics that we would find in my grandmother’s old farmhouse, the red of her apron, the pinks in the flowers on the chenille spreads on the beds, the faded light blue color of the walls, and the light yellows of the homemade curtains on her open windows.

    January 27, 2018

While I love both color variations of the ShipLap Ahoy pattern, I must admit I’m more drawn to the more monochromatic, blue & white version, but would want it in a larger size. I love the new Farmhouse Florals fabric line by Penny Rose. Now to rewatch the folded flying geese video to refresh my memory on a simpler way of constructing a flying geese block.

  • Jerry Church
    January 27, 2018

The blue and white is definitely a summer in the South quilt. With some lightweight batting, it would be great to nap under on a cool afternoon. It’s not often that a quilt has a summer opportunity.

  • Trish L.
    January 27, 2018

The bold color design really makes the geese blocks pop plus the background shows the machine quilting design nicely, so that is my favorite. Offering both color lay outs stimulates everyone’s creativity, keep it up!

Both quilts are so beautiful that it is difficult to choose, but my favorite is the one with the blue and white color scheme.

If I had to pick just one between the bold multicolor quilt or the blue and white themed quilt, it would have to be the blue and white themed quilt. It looks so serene and perfect for a little boys bed!

Today I like the blue. However, tomorrow I may like the other 🙂 That’s why I quilt!

Funny that, although I always say I don’t like blue, I prefer the calmer colors in the blue sample!

I love the fabrics, and both the bold, and blue and white ship lap quilts. If I must choose between the two quilt colors, I would choose the bold look. Blessings

I LOVE the sweetness of this new Farmhouse Floral fabric collection! Although I’m attracted to lots of color, my favorite color is anything blue, therefore the lap quilt in blue and white is my first choice here. Actually, I think anything made up with this collection would be adorable. I Vann imagine a precious baby quilt in the blues and pinks (which I adore together).

Why choose between them? I feel that they each have the same potential in creating a homey atmosphere. One has warm tones, the other cool, so whether you are going for a seasonal approach to decorating or looking to match a favorite design element, you’d make a masterpiece either way!

I love them both but I prefer the bold multicolored quilt. I have almost always gone for brighter, bolder colors. I guess I get that from my Gram. She made a lot of her own clothes and the bolder it was the more she loved it. She also made a few quilts, but that wasn’t her passion the way it is mine.
