Receiving photos from you of the quilting and sewing projects that were made after watching Sewing With Nancy makes me happy! Today, I’m sharing quilt photos from Sharen Dahlke and Kit Ritter, who were both inspired to use Debbie Bowles patterns, BQ and  BQ3from our TV series, Sew Big Quilt Blocks. These quilt patterns feature 18″ blocks—you got to love the size for impact and ease of sewing!

Sharen Dahlke is a dedicated stitcher. She sews or quilts practically all of her gifts. Using the BQ pattern featured in the first episode, she chose directional prints to make this quilt, which was given to an outdoor enthusiast. Debbie gives specific instructions during the TV series on how to handle directional prints. Click here to watch the first episode.

Catherine (Kit) Ritter shared photos of her quilt based  on the TV show Sew Big Quilt  Blocks part 2 and the pattern BQ3. When we asked permission to share her handiwork with you, Kit replied, “Yes, Of course! that would be fine. I am working on another Big Block Quilt. It will be a few months. I will send pictures when I am finished with that one, too.”

If you’d like to watch the second episode of Sew Big Block Quilts, click here.

I’m especially impressed with Kit giving credit to the designer of the quilt pattern, Debbie Bowles.

Debbie Bowles’ Quilts

During the first show, Debbie and I shared a variety of quilts made with her pattern BQ. (My guess is that it stand for Big Quilts, what do you think?)

I loved the BQ episodes and was inspired to make a T-shirt for my sister, who is a retired librarian with BQ3. I pieced the whole thing with my Evolution serger and am so happy with it. I made some blocks of just fabric and some with the T-shirts so it wouldn’t be all T-shirt blocks. I can’t wait to see her reaction when I give it to her. Thank you for having Debbie as a guest. I love her patterns and have quite a library of them. Many I need to try soon.

I’ve scaled down the “big block” to make 12-inch squares for wall hangings. I really love the pattern.

I’ve made 2 BQ quilts already. They’re fast and look so much more complicated than they are.

Beautiful quilts! I see you are teaching at the Fredericksburg VA Sewing Expo on Friday Oct 3, will you be there on Thursday the 2nd or Saturday the 4th? I’d love to see you and am taking classes on Thursday and Saturday, I live too far away to drop by on Friday and I have to work. Love your books and sewing videos.

As I am getting older it is getting harder to make quilts, but with this BQ idea I’m mighty tempted to try one. Maybe I could make a throw instead of a large quilt. I’ll let you know if I do go through with it.

I have a t-shirt quilt in the works using the BQ pattern. I started it after reading about and then watching the video. It is coming out really great, I just need some more t-shirts from my grandson to complete his quilt. I will send along a photo when it is completed.

Beautiful quilts. But it was unfortunate that Debbie Bowles’ name was misspelled on the Ritter quilt label.

Nancy, I have loved you for years!! I always learn new ways of doing things when I watch you sew.
I would like to know the company that made the fabric in the pink flower big quilt blocks. I have looked hi and low for it and haven’t been able to pin it down.
My granddaughter got married June 21, 2014 and we picked peonies for the wedding back in May and wrapped them in newspaper and there were boquets on each of 35 tables that seated 12 people each. The wedding reception was held on their farm in the barn, which Paula Rose’s Daddy took a year to totally rework, with a balcony on the sides and the floor below with a tent outside for the rest of the tables. Anyway, to make a long story short, Paula Rose loves peonies and that flower looks a lot like a peony, also her favorite color is pink and I would like to make her a quilt for their first anniversary with that fabric.
Paula Rose’s Mother, our daughter Patricia had a heart attack last year on Sunday after the 4th of July, when she had a party for 135 family members of her husband’s family and had to have 4 stints put in. her veins were 98% blocked. So I guess she was alright this year, as she sure worked to put on a ” Grand Wedding” for Paula Rose and Roberto, who is from Genoa, Italy. There were 30 members of his family and friends who also came for the Wedding. Paula Rose studied Dress Design in Milan, Italy, and he found her. Haha He is working on his Doctorate in prosthetics at University in San Diego, CA.

I don’t do things like that, although I guess I use to do things like that for our Church.
Anyway if you could let me know where I might get some of that fabric, I would surely appreciate it.

    Love you lots,
