A New Season of Sewing With Nancy–watch on Public TV & Online!
This week begins my 29th year on TV. (Keep in mind I started when I was 16, hmmm!) Not only can you watch the shows on Public TV, you may also watch new programming at www.nancyzieman.com or just click the left tab at the top of this web site.
This season starts off with the first of the three part series on Sewing A to Z. (More exciting news about that topic later.)
A New Book—Nancy Zieman’s Sewing A to Z
My first job after college was teaching sewing classes at a Minnesota Fabrics store in Chicago. Setting up 20 folding chairs in the middle of the store 15 minutes prior to the demonstation constituted my first classroom. Since then, I’ve taught in almost every venue possible with the TV studio being my most recognized classroom.
During the past few decades, I’ve tweaked and personalized many of the common techniques. Many of these methods have been published in previous books of mine, but they’ve never been gathered together in an A-to-Z reference. My hope is that you’ll enjoy Nancy Zieman’s Sewing A to Z and that these techniques will fine-tune your sewing and quilting skills.
My First Blog Tour
To showcase my new book, Nancy Zieman’s Sewing A to Z, and companion TV series, you’ll be able to take a tour through the book via a Blog Tour. I’m pleased to announce that 19 bloggers will be featuring various aspects of the book, starting tomorrow and ending September 9th. I encourage you to follow along and participate in the Book Tour.

I hope you do a series on making dog clothing. If you do, please email me when and what time and station. I live in Memphis, TN
Thanks, Wanda
Dear Nancy,
Several years ago I saw (I believe on your show) on how to make a skirt out of bandanas. You cut off one of the coners and sewed the bandanas together, along on edge and folded down the cut end to made a place to slide the elastic through. I don’t know how to measure to see the number of scarfs you need etc. Please help.
Lori,
All the details are found in the book, Hankie Style. It rather difficult to answer all the processes in an email. The dimensions and details are clearly written. I think you’d enjoy the other projects, too.

Nancy, thanks so much for your very inspiring show. I refer to your books to make needed adjustments to my patterns. Much success to you and your company. Happy anniversary to Sewing with Nancy!!!
You’re welcome!
Hi Nancy,
I enjoy your show. Can you do more wearable clothing? All I seem to see lately is Quilting shows.
Thanks,
Mildred
This upcoming season has little quilting and more embellishing ideas that you can easily apply to wearables! Remember you can watch the newest shows online at http://www.nancyzieman.com.
I was taught to sew by my home ec teacher, mrs Higgins 45 years ago. I now have a renewed interest thanks to Nancy’s clear concise directions. Thank you ever so much nancy. I have to see if my machine can adopt to a pintuck foot. Sandee
I can’t be the first one to think of this, but here’s an idea that has helped me keep a neater sewing area: I put all my cut threads on a lint roller to the right of my machine.
Many times I miss some of your TV shows. I HATE THAT!!! I really get inspired and have even been learning flat pattern draghting. Because you make alterations easy I finally got enough courage to experiment on my own, (with the help of a few books). I made patterns for my granddaughter for jeans, skirts and tops. They fit!! I feel I have been given a wonderful gift. She is 17 and LIKES them. I have made her a couple pair of jeans; she lives 200 miles away. We were able to squeeze in one fitting on the first pair before she had to go home. With trepedation I made another pair, mailed them to her and they fit also. Yes, we made a muslin.
Thank you for the boost.
do you still have books on sewing dress, pants and putting in lining.
thank you
I have been sewing since I was a little girl. I am almost 70 years old and Nancy is stillgiving me hints that I didn’t know. Thanki you Nancy
Hi, Nancy! I watch your television broadcast frequently and occasionally check online for information.
Today, I’m inquiring of you as to whether you have a place where I can learn more about finishing off a quilt pattern/front top/ that I’ve designed on my own (never did a quilt before) and would like to know how to complete it with a back, and batting if needed. The sewing technique of putting it together..not so much the quilting of it. Thank you for directing me where to look for this kind of project. Sue.
Sue,
I think you’ll find the information that you need in “Quilt with Confidence.” In this book my staff and I included basic information on quilting, including working with the batting and backing. I’d love to see a photo of your finished quilt top. Consider posting it on my Facebook page.
