If you like creative stitching projects that can be made in an evening or less? You’re in for a treat! In part two of the TV series, Travel Gear Made Easy, this week’s featured online video, guest Mary Mulari teaches how to quickly stitch travel gear for everyday travel or extended trips. Mary knows all about travel, but even more about making travel easy. Watch Travel Gear Made Easy Part Two at nancyzieman.com. (If you missed part one, watch Travel Gear Made Easy Part One at nancyzieman.com).
In part two of the TV show, and in her book, Mary shares her easy zipper technique for the hidden zipper used to make the Travel Trio Bag Set (pictured above). The clever recessed zipper adds style to this collection of bags.
A few weeks after Mary and Nancy recorded the Travel Gear Made Easy series, Mary sent Nancy a package. Inside was a Travel Trio Bag Set. Aren’t the fabrics delightful?
Mary designed these bags for carrying electronic components, jewelry, or makeup. Plus, they nest together for gift-giving and for easy storage.
The gift package also included a Tie One On Tag. You can always find your luggage with this brightly colored tag tied to the handle. Choose two coordinating fabrics and a piece of clear vinyl to hold your identification info or business card.

Jewels & Treats Bag: As a smart traveler, you’ll find multiple uses for this round drawstring bag. With a pocket-divided circular insert, the bag becomes a jewelry carrier. As a simple lined and washable bag, it can be used to carry dry snacks and treats on the plane or in a lunch box, saving on the use of plastic bags. In other words, it’s a Jewels & Treats Bag!
The Possibility Bag: It’s possible to store travel-sized bottles upright for ease of travel. Turn a placemat or layers of fabric into this nifty holder. Make the bag for gals or guys. It’s a versatile style.
Hair Iron Holder: Travel in style with a curling iron or flat-iron in a quick-to-sew carrier made from a placemat. The bag’s lining is Quilted Iron Quick, so a hot iron can be stashed quickly after use. An outer pocket stores the cord or hairbrush, and the ribbon loop serves as a hanger. This great organizer will streamline your travels.
Tee Safe: We’d like to share a secret—you’re looking at a safe! Hanging underneath the jacket is a Tee Safe—a T-shirt with pocket sections sewn in the back. It’s a “made-easy” hiding place to use while traveling or for a college student’s dorm room. Tune in or buy the book to learn the easy construction details.

Would love to make the luggage tags for my traveling brother and partner for Xmas. Have just the right scraps to do so. Thanks What great ideas for gifts.
The travel trio set is my favorite.
The roll up blanket is my favorite, as you can carry it with you in the car for emergencies if stranded in our snow covered roads till help comes.
The travel trio set looks totally gorgeous and would use up some of my stash overflow, and each bag can be used on its own as well as a set!
The hair iron holder is the one I picked to do first. I just made one for a trip I took in September. I am so glad I made one, it is so much better than wrapping a curling iron in a hand towel and using the cord to wrap around the towel!
The curling iron holder is great. It’s protective and is small enough to stuff in a suitcase. Very useful!!
I’m a traveling girl that just happens to love bags.
Those nesting bags would be ideal for all the stuff I carry.
I love the Jewels and Treats bag. I have one I purchased at the church fund raiser, and it’s overfilled! And the curling iron holder. I just couldn’t bring myself to buy one at the street fair – I’m just too cheap!! Miss seeing Mary at the Puyallup Sewing Expo – she’s so lovely to talk to.
I think the hidden pocket in the T is so neat, and I really liked the zipper tutorials.
It’s my birthday today and I would love to win. My favorite project is the nesting bags. I would make those because I like to be organized when I travel.
I absolutely LOVE the hidden pockets in the tee-shirt!! This is the best and easiest way to hide things when you travel.
My favorite is the possibility bag! Bags are my absolute favorite! This looks like a great one!
I love the hidden pocket in the tee. What a great idea for travelers.
All wonderful ideas! I WANT the nesting travel trio bags, but I NEED to make the tee safe and curling iron holders first!!
I long the luggage tags
My favorite project from Travel Gear Made Easy is the travel trio bags. There are so many uses for them and not just for traveling.
I like the possibility bag for taking along items that don’t fit in a makeup bag and the tee safe is an idea I could put to use.
Love the Travel Trio Bag Set! These bags are not only useful for travel but also for everyday use. They would make great gifts for family and friends.
I love the travel trio because these pouches keep one organized and can be used all year long.
The Travel Trio Bags would be wonderful. What great gifts. I would love to make a few extra sets to have on hand to give to friends when I have forgotten to shop for a birthday or to use as a thank you gift.
I love different size bags for all sorts of organization. I’m thinking the nesting three bags would be great to have.
I love the Travel Trio Bag Set. I think they would make fabulous gifts.
My favorite is the Travel Trio! My daughter’s is the Hair Iron Holder.
We both like the Jeweries and Treats bags! They would make great gifts! With Mary and Nancy, you can’t lose! Thanks for even more Wonderful ideas for all sewing levels!
My favorites are the Travel Trio Bag & the Jewel & Treat Bag.
The Jewel & Treat Bag would be good for my jewelry. I keep my jewelry in a sandwich bag now. Thanks for the chance to win.
I like the “Possibilities” Bag, as there are truly many possibilities for it’s use. You can even line it with vinyl for a great makeup/travel bag.
I like the nesters and would like to learn Mary’s techniques for hidden zippers.
They’re all so cute, but I think the possibility bags are my favorite.
What a terrific selection of travel gear. First, I would make the roll up blanket. It’s always chilling on flights. Next, I would make the trio of bags with multiples of the largest. It’s much easier to pack when outfit pieces can be grouped together in one bag.
I would make the Possibility bag first.
The Travel Trio Bag set is just what I’ve been wanting to find to make as gifts.
I would love to learn how to sew the recessed zippers. This looks like a very informative book.
Travel Trio Bag Set is perfect for Christmas gifts.
Would love to receive this book.
Recessed zippers are something I’ve never done, so the tips will be helpful. I also like the concept of the Tee Safe.
nesting bags are my favorite
My Mother in law made the jewels and treats bag as a jewelry bag for all the women in the family many years ago. Every time we have a get together I see one peeking out of suitcases. I love mine! Now I need to make one for my granddaughter.
The nesting bags with the recessed zippers are what I’d start with if I happened to win the book. Thanks so much for the chance to win a copy!!! Always loved Nancy’s shows on PBS.
I love the travel trio bag set. When traveling, they would keep things organized while looking pretty!
The nesting bags are my favorite.
I like the nesting bags! What a great gift idea!
I really like the bags with the recessed zippers. So different from what you usually see.
I’d love to learn how to make the curling iron holder. The holder matched with the luggage tie-on tags would make great Christmas gifts for our daughters who travel for work.
I love them all but the curling iron holder really got my attention. No more wrapping my hot iron in a hand towel so I can pack it!
Love the Travel Trio Bags. These are so cute, but yet so functional.
So many great travel ideas in Mary’s book! My favorites are the Supply Side Pouch and Tee Safe.
Definitely the possibility bag. I travel, this is perfect!
As usual, great ideas from this blog! I like the idea of the nesting bags. I never know what I’ll need to take on a trip to ‘somewhere’. The curling iron holder also has my attention. That would eliminate my waving the still-too-hot-to-pack iron around the room! Thanks for featuring these projects!
I like the safe idea. It would work at home as well. A couple of years ago I made cell phone carriers for chargers in hotel rooms.
I would enjoy making the nesting travel bags. I like the recessed zipper.
The Travel Trio Bags would be great to sew up and use.
Awesome! Thanks so much for the update.
The travel trio bags would be great to have when I go camping.
I love both the travel trio and the possibility bag. I can see combos for gifts.
My favorite is the Jewels and Treats bag!
The tie-one-on tag looks simple to make and I really really need a couple since every time I travel, I wonder why I haven’t made myself a bright, unique tag so I can find my luggage??!! Oh, and wouldn’t that make a perfect stocking stuffer for Christmas?
Getting ready to travel over seas in a week and half. Wish I knew about this book. I need bags for cosmetics. Bag for taking on board. Good luck to the winner!
The Possibility bag is an excellent choice for a Christmas present for just about anyone – male, female, boy, girl, etc. I think the Tee Safe idea is brilliant.
The roll-up travel blanket would be great on those “red eye” flights! Thanks for the giveaway.
I’m loving the possibility bag . . . 6 grandsons, 9 granddaughters; it’s “in the bag” for Christmas.
There are so many wonderful ideas in this set that it is very hard to pick a favorite. I think that the jewels and treats bag and the possibility bag are my two favorite items and I can see myself making multiples of both of those items. Some for myself and quite a few as gifts for my family and friends.
I adore the travel trio bags!
I love bags! Any size. I always find a use for them. I would love to make the trip bag set.
The possibility bag lends itself to many possibilities! It is practical as well as stylish. Would like the chance to create some not just one.
I like the Possibility bag. It’s a good size for travel.
