We all take notes on paper. Whether small or big, paper tablets are a mainstay at almost any desk. So here’s my sixth gift-giving idea, make then give an upscale tablet keeper! Start with three or four coordinating fabrics (fat quarters are ideal) and make one of three common sizes of paper tablets, using the Trace ‘n Create E-Tablet & Paper Tablet Keeper Template. (There’s another post on creating an E-Tablet Keeper for an iPad®, Kindle®, etc.)
Paper Tablet Keeper Sewing Steps
- Select a tablet keeper size, trace along the edges or within the die-cut areas onto fabric. First you trace, then create!
- Add interfacing and Peltex. (Sew-in Peltex is my favorite craft-weight interfacing. It’s difficult to see in this photo, but so needed to give an upscale look to your tablet keeper.)
- Mark and apply snap. The die-cut areas provide ease and accuracy.
- Trace the tab; add markings. Follow the steps in the instructions to create the closure.
- Stitch the tab to the tablet keeper.
- Layer inner pieces to the wrong side of the tablet keeper. There’s no guesswork. All the sizes are given in the instructions.
- Create an inner spine using 5/8″ wide Create-a-Strap. It’s fusible and perforated. How’s that for ease!
- Add the spine and pocket to the inside of the tablet keeper. Edgestitch along the edges of the spine.
- Stitch three edges: the sides and lower edge. Insert Pre-Cut Tablet Keeper Shaper between the layers through the top opening. These shapers are the proverbial icing on the cake to create a professional-looking paper or electronic tablet keeper!
- Bind the edges with your favorite binding technique. Not to worry; I detail how in the instructions!
- Insert the paper tablet. Ta-da!
