Who would ever think that riding a school bus in Beaver Dam, WI would be a good time! Yet, each year several thousand sewing and quilting enthusiasts eagerly look forward to the round trip between Nancy’s Notions Warehouse and Sewing Weekend seminar sites. Twice a year there are two big sewing and quilting events in Wisconsin: Sewing Weekend in Beaver Dam May 3, 4, & 5, and Quilt Expo in Madison September 6, 7, & 8. In Tuesday’s blog I asked for suggestions for the planning of Quilt Expo. Today, I’m sharing the entertaining options during Sewing Weekend. I know— Sew Entertaining—it’s trite to interchange so with sew, yet the entertainment part of Sewing Weekend is real.
Here’s a list of this years entertaining activities:
Alex Anderson, Barbara Crawford, Flavin Glover, Kari Mecca, Lindee Goodall, Londa Rohfling, Louise Cutting, Sue Hausmann, and I will provide the education and entertainment. The giggles and laughs share the stage with the learning process.
Here’s where you get to test drive different sewing machines, learn new techniques, and chat with fellow quilters and stitchers. You can serge, embroider, or quilt for a half a day, and you won’t have to worry about setting up a machine or cleaning up the threads!
Alex Anderson takes center stage on Friday, May 4th, at 7:30 with a fun-filled evening as she takes us on a journey of her quilting escapades. With a virtual show-and-tell of quilts, she shares her most uncharted life story from quilting mom to she’s doing what now? Alex promises that you’ll leave with a smile on your face.
Then there’s my evening event on Thursday, May 3rd. I wrote about the event in a blog a few weeks ago, Sewing With Nancy’s 30th Anniversary—the Celebration Begins. Wait until you see 30 years worth of hairstyles and studio changes. Hmm, I’m getting a little nervous!
Spend about an hour of time and stitch up a quick project. Register for these impromptu classes at Sewing Weekend. It’s a mini sewing escape!
There’s no doubt about it, shopping is entertainment! Great deals, sales, and special Sewing Weekend prices on best-selling items equal retail therapy.
If you need a dose of sewing entertainment—meeting fellow stitchers, learning the latest in sewing and quilting, and enjoying your craft—please join in May 3, 4, & 5. We promise to serve you an extra dose of midwestern hospitality!
PS: Special thanks to frequent Sewing With Nancy speaker, Rita Farro, for sharing some of her photos!
The random winner of the Sew Serendipity DVD is Carrie who shared her favorite technique from Sew Serendipity. She said: I liked the invisible zipper technique. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve turned the fabric this way and that to get the zipper in! Thank you for providing easy to remember techniques to all you do!
Bye for now,
