GreeneryRoundUp Nancy ZiemanIt won’t surprise anyone to learn that my favorite color is green. Working in the garden, choosing green fabrics, and arranging home accents; green surrounds me. Imagine my delight when Pantone (the color forecasting company used by many designers across many industries) announced the 2017 color of the year: Greenery.

Looks like I may be ahead of the curve on this one. To celebrate my favorite color trending for 2017, I rounded up a few Greenery color-inspired tutorials.

It seems everyone is connected through their smart phones and mobile devices, these days. On chilly days, we’re faced with the dilemma of staying connected with our gloves off or staying warm with our gloves on. Peculiar, right? I have developed an easy solution—texting gloves. Use fleece scraps to create a comfy pair of these fingerless gloves. Optional: Personalize your gloves with a monogram. In either case, these make up quickly and solve a common seasonal problem. Learn how to sew my texting gloves, here.

When developing the Sewing With Nancy series on how to create covers for electronic tablets or low-tech paper tablets, it was exciting to see how a small amount of stitching or a creative use of fabric could result in a stylish cover. The first of the two-part series, Sew Techie Coversdemonstrates how simple embellishments can transform practical device covers. Learn to sew these fun cases, here.

Sometimes the quilting step is the most perplexing and stressful. Your goal is for a stress-free process, but where to begin? Denise Abel, my guest on Sewing With Nancy, has a solution—use an embroidery machine and turn it into a quilting machine. Denise joins me for the second part of this series, Stress-Free Quilting with Machine Embroidery, which is this week’s online video feature. 6-in-1 Stick 'N Stitch Seam Guide Nancy Zieman

Nancy Zieman's Giveaway Winner

The randomly selected winner of a copy of Quick Column Quilts by Nancy Zieman from F+W Media is LaDonna Reynolds.

Her comment was, “I like them all! They are beautiful. My favorites would are the Heartbeat and Wind Chimes quilts. They are very different, plus I love the names. Heartbeat would be so cute in a baby quilt simply because of the name of the quilt, and, of course, you’d have to put it on the quilt label on the back for an even more special meaning.”

I thought I had died and went to heaven when I found Nancy on PBS about 33 years ago after moving to FL. My next quilt will be the Wind Chimes from her Column Quilts book.

I loved the four Jean repairs session,, With all the repairs I have been doing over the years, I developed some techniques of my own, but these seem to make it all a lot easier and simple to fix zippers and hems,, thanks for the lessons..

Nancy Zieman is the best source for sewing instruction! I have learned so much from her website, her blog, her videos, and Sewing With Nancy. Nancy’s Notions is also a great site for sewing supplies. And now another great way to approach making a quilt! May it never end.

Love the gloves! Could they be made from a re-purposed wool sweater that was washed by mistake and shrunk? Thank you for presenting the tutorial again. Although I have watched your TV show on Sat. mornings in Seattle area for YEARS, I am relatively new to your blog. Those sewing guides would be *great* as I teach my Granddaughter to sew!

Being a new quilter, achieving a perfect 1/4″ seam, or better yet, a scant 1/4″ seam has been difficult for me. I’ve measured and marked my machine, and tried every other hint, tip or trick I’ve found, but it’s still hit or miss! I’ve been considering trying the Clover 6-in-1 Stick n Stitch Seam Guide, as it “seams” like a great idea.

When I think of green, I think of my flowers peeking through the ground announcing that spring is here. So, I think that my favorite spring project would be making bags to put my plant pots in and accents for the outsidee of the pots I love. Plus, I could make accents for stakes to put in the plants to announce the joy of the robins showing up in our yard on Saturday. I counted three times because I couldn’t believe that there were 11 playing in the yard.

I love using green too. It is the color of so many living things like trees and plants. I can never have too many green fabrics.

The seam guide looks great and I hope to use it soon. I sew all kinds of things. Recently I taught beginners to sew using the pins parallel to the stitching lines so they did not have to pull them out as they went. This tool would help beginners sew nice straight lines on everything!

Thanks for your fun and helpful tools.
