In a recent interview with the NZP Team, Richard Zieman (Nancy Zieman’s husband) shares memories, conversations with Nancy, and why he wrote his new book, Nancy Zieman, The Rest of the Story—A Memoir of Faith, Family, and Friends.

In this new biography, Nancy Zieman, The Rest of the Story—A Memoir of Faith, Family, and Friends, Richard shares an intimate look into Nancy’s life and career—focusing mainly on the five years since Nancy’s autobiography, Seams Unlikely, written in 2012.

Nancy Zieman, Producer and Host of the Television Show, Sewing with Nancy on PBS

“Prior to Nancy’s passing, in November 2017, Nancy and I talked about the positive reach of Seams Unlikely and the powerful stories shared by readers, and by Sewing With Nancy viewers, on how Nancy’s perserverance and faith deeply impacted their lives and inspired their own perserverance. Nancy and I talked several times about writing a second book—to tell the ‘rest of the story.’ My new book, Nancy Zieman, The Rest of the Story—A Memoir of Faith, Family, and Friends picks up where Seams Unlikely ended, and includes Nancy’s personal reflections on her life, career, faith, and the many blessings of family and friends—especially during her final months.”     Richard Zieman

Nancy Zieman, The Rest of the Story—A Memoir of Faith, Family, and Friends begins with a recap, from Seams Unlikely, and shares Nancy’s life story from childhood to early adulthood—when Ms. Nancy Luedtke meets Mr. Richard Zieman.

Richard included a DVD within the inside back cover of his book. This special DVD shares an exclusive visual account of Nancy’s life story in a very personal and memorable way.

Richard shares his thoughts in an excerpt from the book prologue in Nancy Zieman, The Rest of the Story—A Memoir of Faith, Family, and Friends:

Nancy Zieman the Rest of the Story - A Memoir of Faith Family and Friends available at Nancy Zieman Productions at ShopNZP.com

“Nancy started her autobiography, Seams Unlikely, with the words, ‘I never intended to write an autobiography.’ In similar fashion, I never intended to write Nancy’s biography, at least not so soon, picking up where Seams Unlikely ended. But those who knew Nancy Zieman personally, as well as those who appreciated Nancy’s role in the sewing and quilting industry, form a unique community of people who care deeply and respectfully for others. I want them to know the rest of Nancy’s story.

Although she had a very public professional life, Nancy was at heart a very reserved person who shared the difficulties of her life with few people. She was quiet about her physical challenges, especially those that plagued the last few years of her life, and she always tried to look on the positive side of things.

Nancy left us on November 14, 2017, and almost immediately people began requesting the story of the final years of her life. One might expect that those five years were filled with sadness and pain—and there was a lot of that—but in those years Nancy also kept looking and planning for the future. She never stopped dreaming or creating.”

“I wrote this book for those who came to know Nancy personally, as well as those who felt a personal relationship with Nancy as viewers of Sewing With Nancy. In the book I share an intimate look into our family life and Nancy’s career. I’ve included Nancy’s personal reflections on her life, career, faith, and the many blessings of family and friends—especially during her final months.”

“Nancy’s story is the story of those she touched. And, because of that, I thank the viewers of Sewing With Nancy along with those who appreciate the sewing products she created and all those whom Nancy touched professionally in one way or another.”    Richard Zieman

I have a whole plethora of Nancy Zieman books and templates and other sewing aids. She was a great sewist and her sewing skills which she left us in her books and DVDs and shows which we still can view will continue to inspire sewing enthusiasts for a very long time. I miss those days of Sewing with Nancy.

I always wanted to meet Nancy in person because In my mind she never met a stranger. Her books and videos have given me so many wonderful Ideas and creations that make her live on for me. I lost my husband to cancer also and I do know what some of those final days entail. You are amazing that you were able to write this book as I don’t think I could to this day and it has been 10 years. Nancy was such a special person in the lives of so many friends and viewers.

When I I read Sewing with Nancy I was deeply moved by all the trials and tribulations that she went through as a young person and as a college student; then more and more health issues that followed. Yet she never let them stop her. She was incredible. I cried when I read that she passed away.

I’m 77 and have been sewing since I was 5. I owned a shop, taught many kids to sew & was always involved in sewing events. Nancy was always my Idol & I was able to meet her about 5 times; once at her place in Beaver Dam. What a lady & yes, I’ve shed some tears over her passing way too soon! My love to the family!

I loved her first book so much! Her stories about church, 4H , college and her first job. She was so strong and determined, plus you could see how gracious , kind and respectful of others she was. What a wonderful woman. A true inspiration to all of us. We are lucky to have her Sewing with Nancy show for all these many years. She was the best

I so admired Nancy and loved her TV shows. I learned so much from her. I never had the opportunity to meet her, because I live too far south to make it to any of the quilt shows, etc., but as so many have said, I felt like I knew her because of her warmth that showed through on her programs. She was such an inspiration about her illness, which she actually never mentioned until the end that I can recall, and a pity party was certainly not her style. She demonstrated a self depricating love for others that was so obvious to us all. Would love to read Richard’s book from her soul mate’s perspective.

I admire you so much to be able to write the final story, I lost my husband at the age of 50, and I know I would not have able to do that. When I heard of Nancy passing, I felt I had lost a great friend. I learned so much from her, I watched her programs for at least 20 years. I wish you the best.

Received a copy of “Seams Unlikely” when it first came out for my birthday (it came in the mail on my birthday!), I was thrilled and read it immediately.
I lived in Milwaukee for many years and traveled to Sewing Weekend every year – it was my “vacation”. Now retired, still go every year, was sad to see it was cancelled this year.
Nancy inspired me in so many way in my life and I look forward to meeting her again. Thank you Richard for writing the rest of the story…

I am 70 yrs old, and I did meet Nancy at one of her workshops. She acted like I was the only one there, never hushed me or said I’m sorry I have others to cater to. Never ever. She listened to every word I said and gave me advice that I could use. She never pushed her products nor did she overprice them. I will always be grateful for her touching my life. She was an amazing person. Thank you for sharing her with us.

Nancy was close to my age so her life and journey seemed similar in some ways. Have been a customer from the early newsletter mail order “catalog” days until now. Sad to see her go at such an “early” age, esp. when the grandchildren were so young.

The day Nancy first shared she was having health issues was a shock to me. The day she told viewers she was leaving the show to be with family and friends hit so many of us hard. It was like losing a best friend. I followed her journey since the beginning of her PBS career. She was a teacher, innovator, and a role model for business women. I can’t wait to read this new book. She was an inspiration that is missed. Thank you for sharing the rest your f her amazing story.

What a blessing to the sewing community Nancy was. She certainly created quite a legacy. I was fortunate to meet Nancy a number of years ago and attend one of her lectures. I truly enjoyed her Seams Unlikely book and read it several times before passing it around to sewing friends. I don’t remember what year I started taping her shows but still do. I have kept many of them as a reference as well as many of her Sewing With Nancy books. This world has lost an angel. I look forward to seeing her again in heaven.

    March 9, 2019

I have never read either book about Nancy, but would love to do so. I watched and watch her show on PBS as she gives me courage to try what I never expected to be able to do. I was born into a family of women who sewed but I was never taught to sew. The few times I would try my work was not viewed positively. “My seams were not straight” “I could not even cut a piece of material straight and right”. After hearing so many negative messages I lost the desire to try. Then in later years (my fifties) I discovered NANCY….her positive attitude and encouragement made me feel like she was right in the room with me, telling me I could do this. And you know, I found out I COULD DO THIS, thanks to her. I am so glad you are keeping her ‘alive’ on PBS so others, like me, can realize they have sewing potential. I will be 72 this month and her books would make a wonderful Birthday gift for me to read and pass down to my daughter, who has been encourage by me that she can do anything she puts her mind to. I got this attitude I adopted from Nancy. Thank you.

I began watching sewing with Nancy Saturday mornings with my children. Their favourite one was a show that had a birthday party theme for sewing ideas. Of course, they wanted me to make these items. With Nancy’s help, I was able to do some of them. Both of my children, Dave and Laura, learned to sew, and my daughter has a small sewing business which helps to pay for fees associated with international adoption. I read the first book and would love to read (own) the second. Thank you for everything throughout the years.

I was fortunate enough to meet Nancy on a sewing weekend several years ago; even though surrounded by over a hundred people, Nancy had a wonderful way of making any individual she spoke to feel important to her. She started her early years selling and teaching in an area where I grew up, so I felt a bit of kinship to her early days. Sewing has always been my place of comfort, and her ideas, creativity, and just being the person she was have been an inspiration to me, especially after reading her book “Seams Unlikely”. Rest in peace, Nancy. You are missed.

I have watched Nancy’s- Sewing With Nancy since she first started. I was a young, beginning sewist and learned a lot of sewing techniques from the show. I can only imagine the millions plus people who learned to sew by watching SWN. We are so grateful for Nancy’s vision and willingness to share her talents with the rest of the world. I was so saddened to learn of her illness and her finality here on earth. I’m sure she’s making robes for the angels in Heaven, maybe even teaching them to sew! Nancy is greatly missed but leaves behind an unparalleled legacy.

I learned to sew when I was very young, some 50 years ago. I did fine for many years, but when I found Nancy’s programs on PBS that’s when I learned to sew BETTER. To this day, when I encounter a challenge while creating a garment, I go to Nancy’s videos online. I always find an answer and learn something new! I like to refer to Nancy as the Julia Child of sewing. Her legacy is that she continues to be an exceptional teacher.

30+ years ago I met Nancy. I worked at a department store in Virginia, MN and was the fabric department manager. Nancy came to share her knowledge and enthusiasm for sewing and pattern alterations. I learned so much from her! She was entertaining, happy, enthusiastic and obviously in love with what she did! It carried over into all that she taught and shared! She touched me deeply. I was honored to share some one on one time with her as she prepared and packed up. I’ve never forgotten. I always made it a point to view all of her programs and learned, enjoyed and remembered. She was a beautiful, talented, wonderful woman who is greatly missed.

Nancy was my “sewing instructor”, never having had the opportunity to take sewing classes in school. Thanks to Nancy, I was able to sew for my seven children, including school uniforms and proms, and loved every minute of it. I thoroughly enjoyed Nancy’s book, and even met her personally when I attended her sewing weekends in Beaver Dam, WI. I look forward to reading Richard’s bio of Nancy in the near future. What a tribute to a wonderful woman!

I recently finished a landscape quilt I started in 2012 after watching an episode of Nancy’s Sewing. I sewed garments but was not a “quilter”. I was inspired by Nancy and Natalie Sewell. I continue to be inspired each time I pick up one of Nancy’s “book that accompanies today’s program”. She is missed.

I just adored Miss Nancy. I loved how she didn’t let her disability hold her back from being a public figure. Her deliberate consciousness to promote woman both in our country and underrepresented countries, was so encouraging and heartfelt. She encouraged me to get into sewing; engage in sewing for charity, myself and for others. Her passing has not only left a huge hole in the hearts of her friends and family, but in the fellow sewists, like me, around the world. Her life demonstrates the power and love one person can have on the world, bringing people and communities together for positive change.

I was so inspired by the Sewing with Nancy shows and I read her autobiography as soon as it came out. She has been a big inspiration to me. I’m 62 and have been seeing since about 6 years old, mostly self taught but learned so many great tips from watching her show and buying her instructional books! She also came out with her kids products right around the time I was working with my Quilt guild to start a Youth sewing guild! Not just for quilting but for all sewing! We have ages 8-14 both boys and girls who are so excited to learn. I would love to win a copy of the rest of the story! Thank you for doing this giveaway.

I met Nancy at a Sewing Expo in Lakeland, Florida several years ago after having watched her shows for many, many years. I signed up for every lecture she did there, and just wanted to hang out at her booth to be around her. She signed my copy of Seams Unlikely, which I treasure. She really surprised me when, the second day, she said, “Oh, I remember you from yesterday. You had on a pretty pink blouse.” That blew me away! What a lovely, loving, caring person Nancy was! I always told people that Nancy was my virtual best friend.

This great teacher was a tremendous part of my life, and our families. She was watched on Wisconsin Public Television every Saturday morning that she was on. . Our sons and daughters, and some of our grandchildren have learned how to sew from Nancy. Am hoping her books are in every school and library as an incentive for everyone to learn the importance of knowing how to sew. We are thinking of the loss her family has as we miss her, too, especially at Quilt Expo in Madison, WI. I think of her often as I quilt and sew. Her work to spread charitable sewing is amazing.

I recently read Nancy’s autobiography, “Seams Unlikely” . I found it very inspiring! She faced physical challenges most of us won’t have to face, yet with her Godly faith and good family-ethics upbringing, she did not use her physical setbacks to keep her from moving forward and reaching toward goals. Her faithfulness in teaching Sunday School for decades and her faithfulness to the needs of her family are a catalyst to those seeking a fulfilling life. When I reached the end of Nancy’s book, I found myself curious to know more. I’m looking forward to the opportunity of reading Richard’s biography of the rest of Nancy’s story!

    Hello!

The memory of the wonderful Nancy Zieman will arouse good feelings of interest in sewers and crafters for ages. Her creations are lovingly sewn in the hearts of many who love her. Nancy not only sewed with talent; she left a legacy to her family of strong principles and life is more hopeful, living is more worthwhile because of her very visible love for her family and close friends. First Lady of Sewing, Nancy, I admire you, and, because of you, I will always be equipped in working out the details of my sewing projects with confidence. May you rest in peace, until we see you in that perfect day of the second coming of our Lord. You are an angel of perfect meekness and gentle love. Sewing with Nancy has been a part of my life since 1989, when my mother got me started watching while she was visiting. She was an avid sewer and I have learned so much from her shows and never wanted to miss any of them. She was such a big part in all of our lives and will always be in our hearts.

I am pushing 73 years ‘YOUNG” & I have been watching Nancy on PBS in Virginia Beach VA. Now that I have a computer I can watch more shows on my time as they never have them on enough for me. I watch each episode and wonder with amazement the knowledge that Nancy had with sewing anything. You name it – Quilting, Embroidery, making patterns, making your own clothes and the list goes on and on. I have learned so much from watching her on TV along with the guests that she would have on her show. She was so expert in all things sewing. She was taken way too soon. Keep the emails coming. I save them all in a file folder on my computer and if the item I want to read about doesn’t open up anymore, at least it gives me the information to go to the website and look for it. I also use to get catalogs from Nancy’s Notions. I would love to win the book on her life as she was the “GREATIST”.

I never had the pleasure of meeting Nancy in person but have come to know and love her through Sewing with Nancy. Her faith and strength shone brightly through her personality. She was a true reflection of faith. I have learned so much from her. I am thrilled at her perseverance to plan for the team to carry on her legacy. I wish many more years for her TV series and business.

Nancy Zieman made even the most difficult of sewing tasks seem within my reach. I first saw her programs on PBS back when I was a young mother. Her programs, with ideas and methods to make them, was a mecca for me during the busy days of raising 3 boistrous boys and a sweet little girl who followed in their tracks always. I looked for things I could make and use to make my house seem more like home as well as lively. She never failed to offer up her personal generosity in ways I could emulate. I still can’t believe she is gone from us, and I am ever grateful that you have continued blessing us with more programs in her own particular genre. Thank you, and thanks for the opportunity to win the book. Blessings on your days.

I consider one of the highlights of my sewing life to have been an attendee at one of Nancy’s last Babylock retreats. This was in 2015 in King of Prussia PA. She was so gracious to all of us and even sign her first book for me.

Watching Nancy on PBS was often the highlight of my day. When I finally made the trip to the Sewing weekend- it was wonderful to see her in person. I have read her autobiography, and so enjoyed it – there were times in her life journey when she was geographically close to where I was in Indiana. I look forward to reading this new book.

I like so many others was a fan of Sewing with Nancy. My husband and two grown children know exactly who Nancy Zieman was as I never wanted to miss her sewing show! However, upon reading Seams Unlikely, I felt an even closer connection to Nancy. I also survived extreme health issues as a child. (I had open heart surgery at 3 years of age and I faced cancer as a young mother.) I too have been a teacher all my life. (Elementary for many years and now I teach piano lessons.) I always respected Nancy’s abilty to teach but her sincerity of spirit is what always shone through. I believe that sincerity was Nancy living her Christiian faith. When you’re a Christian is just shows in all parts of your life. And it certainly did in Nancy’s life. Even though I never met Nancy personally, I feel like she was my good friend. I caught my love of sewing from my mother and spent many happy summers sewing with her during my teenage years. But once I was on my own teaching in a tiny midwest town, Nancy’s show was something I looked forward to every weekend! Nancy helped me continually improve my sewing abilities. She made me believe I could tackle any sewing project if I just broke it down into small parts or time segments. Remember 10-20-30 minutes to sew? I still use that philosophy with sewing or almost any task I tackle today. I consider that “attitude” which I caught from Nancy to be one of her greatest gifts to me. Thank you Nancy!

I loved watching Nancy’s programs from the beginning. There were so many ideas to try. I learned so much. I have an autoimmune condition which has made it harder to see large projects, but she had so many smaller projects that I could still dream and create. I got to talk with her at the Sewing Expo in Puyallup, WA. I was amazed that she was so patient and kind in the hectic atmosphere of such a stimulating and busy event. She was such a beautiful person.

Nancy was such an inspiration to me, after watching her, I promised myself that learning to quilt would be at the top of my bucket list when I retired. I kept that promise and because of her, 9 years later, I now quilt and embroider. She taught me so much.

I watched “Sewing With Nancy” from the beginning, and enjoyed every episode. I was so proud when she shared on her show one of my sewing projects with a picture of my granddaughters.
I met her at the Sewing Expo in Puyallup, and was amazed at her beauty, kindness, and willingness to talk with people between classes in the hectic atmosphere of the event.
I have an autoimmune condition which has made sewing large projects difficult, but Nancy always had new, smaller projects, too. I have loved her ideas and generosity of spirit.

Nancy was a personal friend to me (or so it seemed). In my early sewing days, I taped the videos and still have the collection (and a VCR which plays them). When I want to know how to do something, I look at some of the many books which I acquired through Nancy’s shows or Nancy’s Notions. I certainly would like to read Nancy’s story, because I certainly cared so much about this great teacher. She and I shared some physical problems. She was a strong person.

Some of the times of growing up that my 4 children seem to talk about more than I ever expected are about my religiously watching and taping Sew with Nancy. They were not very old when they knew to not bother Mommy when she is watching Sewing with Nancy. I feel sad and also inspired when I think of Nancy’s illness, death, and amazing life. It was a blessing to know her even if it was only through the television.

Nancy is my hero and I am a fan of her books and TV show. If there is ever anything that I want to learn about sewing or quilting I always know I can look it up and see how Nancy does it. I enjoyed recording and watching Nancy’s videos for years and have many of her books. I felt like I lost a personal friend when she died. I read the book she wrote about her life, and it was an inspiration to me. I lost the vision on the right side of both eyes due to surgery. I was privileged to meet Nancy on 2 occasions. Both at her weekend classes 2 years apart. She was so gracious and welcoming and the seminar/retreat staff so helpful. Having watched her “Sewing with Nancy” for years I felt like I knew her, but also knew there was so much more to her caring attitude.
As a Mom who has seen her youngest daughter enter Heaven’s gates due to a “devastatingly catastrophic medical event” at age 29, I understand how Faith plays a great part in living life after such a loss.
I would love to read your book that honors Nancy’s life.

Nancy had so much common sense and had the vision of easier ways to do things, that most of us do the “old” way. I love to review her videos, and have them saved in a special “sewing” folder on my computer. She had such a peace about her that it made us viewers relax and soak it all in. I’ve read her Seams Unlikely, and won’t delete it from my Kindle, so I can go back and read parts, or all, whenever I want to. I look forward to someday reading “The Rest of the Story.” She is greatly missed by all.

I have faithfully enjoyed “Sewing With Nancy” on Saturday mornings for years and am still watching. Nancy had a gift for explaining things at just the right speed and showing details up close so that you could feel like “I can make that!” I enjoyed her humble, sweet spirit. She never acted as though she was a “big deal.” I wish I could have met her in person, and I will always remember the sick feeling I got in my stomach when my sister called to tell me that she had read on the blog that Nancy had passed away. The Sewing With Nancy Program has helped me build confidence as a sewer. I really enjoy watching Nancy because I feel as if we are friends, chatting over a cup of coffee or tea. She is an accomplished sewer that wants to advance her craft. She just matter of factly shows us tips and secrets. She even would keep a program when a process had a little glitch, she would explain and move on. She helps me be brave to attempt new techniques. I remember my own mother introduced her to me. I am thankful for her passion and also thankful that she has written a book. I plan to read both books. Thank you to Nancy’s family for sharing her with us. She has left her mark on my life and I am forever changed.

I remember when I heard that Nancy had passed I thought, who is going to be my sewing mentor? No one can fill her shoes that is for sure. I met her at sewing expo’s and loved her humor when she did live shows at the Sewing Weekend in Beaver Dam. Silly I know, but I just can’t delete the last few episodes of Sewing with Nancy that she did. Maybe one day, but not yet. Yes, I know I can watch them on the website but for some reason it isn’t the same. I can’t imagine how all the staff keeps going without her presence. It must have been an awesome thing to be her friend.

I’ve watched Sewing with Nancy for many years and also have many of her books. I loved her teaching style. Although I originally learned to sew from family members, Nancy’s style was always to show potential new ways of doing things without judgment. I have grown in my sewing career with Nancy over the years. She influenced me to purchase a Pfaff 7570 embroidery machine, that was the machine she had on her show. So I purchased my machine at Sewing weekend. And from then on the race was on I became a Pfaff instructor at my local quilt shop and spend many hours working with new owners of their embroidery machines. I often referred to Nancy as my friend, and all that knew me, knew exactly who I was talking about. She had such a positive influence in my life and I am forever grateful to her. RIP Nancy!!!

It was as if she was by MY side helping me through a new technique. I have most of her books and have begun the Landscaping quilt just recently. Her Jeans book I use constantly and presently am making jean quilts for our Veterans in a nursing home. The sweatshirt series is another of my favorites that I use often. Though the instruction part of the shows were wonderful, I so loved the visits with other sewers at the end of her shows. My daughter is very involved in the Cosplay and she did a wonderful visit with that. Many of them brought tears to my eyes and heart. Her bio was one I read within a week, i must have gone through 4 or more boxes of tissue. Her honesty was amazing, her strength phenomenal. I am certain she is teaching our Angels how best to make their robes! Thank you sir, for sharing her with us, with me! Her impact will forever be felt. I would love a copy of the Rest of the Story,,,,as finances allow I will proudly own one. Much love to you and your family. Thank you again.

I was lucky enough to have met Nancy at the Houston Quilt show a couple of years ago. She autographed Seems Unlikely for me and I have really enjoyed the book. Looking forward to reading Richard’s book next. She is missed!

I have watched Sewing with Nancy for years, she was inspirational, even thought I have sewn for about 60 years, I could always learn something new, weather it was an easier way to a certain thing or just something new altogether. I am 72 and would love to read both of the books. She was the best. Thank you Nancy for everything.

I would love to win a copy of the book. Nancy was such an inspiration. When I got back into sewing years ago I found Nancy & Nancy’s Notions and purchased many books, tools and embroidery design there.

I have truly enjoyed watching Nancy. I once got a chance to meet her in Dallas. She was just as nice in person as she was on her television show. I have TiVo’d her show and I refer back to it quite often.

I never got to meet Nancy in person but like so many others I watched and rewatched her shows and felt that I knew her. Although I knew how to sew before I began watching her show, she refined my skills and helped me through the things that I always avoided sewing. I own her autobiography and plan to read this book as well.

No other tv personalities passing had ever brought me to tears as did Nancy’s and continues to whenever I think of her.
Her ability to inspire and patiently instruct her proven techniques simply for every level of skill and interest was profound.
Saturday mornings aren’t the same now that my PBS provider doesn’t carry Sewing With Nancy. I planned my day around her show.
Nancy’s guests presented widely different skills for our benefit but more importantly, teach is to incorporate how we can expand ourselves in serving others.

I have watched Nancy from the beginning, she always gave such detailed information, so calm and assuring, I loved her inspiration stories, I made chemo caps for friends. If I had a problem with a project, I knew where to go for help.
I still have tears when I think of her, she was such an inspiration to anyone who knew and we all felt like she was our dear friend. I have her Seams Unlikely, made me feel closer to her and your family. I will miss her for the rest of my life.

I have been watching Sewing With Nancy since it began. I am 72 and have learned so much from watching her shows. I became interested in landscape quilting from reading her book and her simple instructions and I make many of my own clothes. I began quilting a few years ago and made quilts for all of my grandchildren. I will truly miss her but she is always there on line. I can’t wait to read Richards book.

I’m 89 years old and have watched Nancy forever!!! I cleaned house etc for this lovely lady for over 30 years. Knowing that I sewed she bought a small TV in the laundry room so that I could watch Nancy while I was doing her ironing. Have learned so much from her. I still make Quilts for family. Also at our church we make Quilts that are sent overseas to certain organizations. Would love to have her book!

I have been sewing since I was 10 years old and I watched
Sewing with Nancy ever since it started.
Being from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan we took a family
trip specially to see her shop in New Berlin many years ago when it was the first building she started. I remember going around the shop and hoping to “run into her in person”!
I bought her book “Seams Unlikely” and shared it with my “sewing sister”
When Nancy passed away I felt like I lost my best friend.
I am anxious to read the new book and keep on “Sewing With Nancy”

I have always enjoyed Sewing with Nancy and I still take time if I can to watch old shows – she made us feel that we could tackle anything and she inspired so many of us to try. What a special gift she shared with us.

I don’t remember when I didn’t watch Sewing With Nancy. There were 3 or 4 other sewing shows that were pretty good but none as good and long-living as Nancy. I have been a sewer since about age 9 and I am now 86 and own and operate a small fabric store and do alterations and patching and so many thing I learned from Nancy have made it possible for me to repair many loved garments for my customers. I also was a sewer for college theater groups that very often had to figure out ways to “make things work”. Very often I would go home and turn on Nancy and 9 times out of 10 she would be showing me how to take care of the problem we had in the costume studio. She seemed to have a 6th sense. In those years I was able to attend the sewing conference in Puyallup, Washington and would always make sure I spent some time at Nancy’s booth. What a joy that was. Haven’t been able to get the recent books, but would enjoy having them for my “happy reading time”. I do so miss her.

I have not read her book yet. It is being passed around at our guild. I am thankful that her show is still being shown on PBS. I always watch it and learn something new even though I’ve seen them before. She was so down to earth and gracious. Her easy to follow directions made every sewer feel like they could accomplish any project.

I began watching Nancy a few years ago and loved her shows. Her instructions are always well thought out and I will continue purchasing her videos as long as they are made. I heard of her passing and felt the loss even though I never met her. I’m grateful that another book of her courage, faith and love has been written. That too will become a part of my collection.

I thoroughly enjoyed watching Nancy on the internet and hearing and seeing all her tips in sewing. She showed a faith through her programs and inspired me as I watched her. I have been sewing since I was a child and now sew with a couple of groups of women, for missions. I have learned different tips from Nancy and apply them in my sewing. Have bought one of her books on repairing and enjoyed the shortcuts on replacing a zipper. Have also bought some of the tools she has mentioned. Recently, I purchased a Baby-lock sewing machine from her site, my husband said but you have several sewing machines already. This one is much lighter and easier for me when I take it with me for these sewing groups and it has just the basic stitches I need for sewing quilts, pillowcases, Cancer hats, and bags for beads for children undergoing chemo. and many other items. I anxiously look forward to reading both books and hope I win one. I miss Nancy so much as she was an inspiration .

I’m a man, who have been watching Nancy for years. I’m not much of a good sewer, but have learned so much from her, on basic sewing to creative sewing. I enjoy sewing, but am not that good at it, so I have always appreciated what I could learn from Nancy, and her way of teaching that even I could understand, and actually do.

I was some how introduced to Nancy Zieman many years ago, long before her beautiful color catalog came into being. I believe my first copy might have only been several pages. I loved that she had unique sewing gadgets that were not available to me in my local sewing store. I was similarly introduced to her sewing shows via our local PBS station.

I admired her in so many ways. She was definitely an entrepreneur and a front runner within the sewing industry. She found a way to fill the need of so many sewers throughout the country.

I did have the pleasure of meeting her once at a sewing expo in Pittsburgh. I also have a photograph with her from that day. If my memory serves me correctly, I also attended a class that she taught at that venue. Like many others, I have read her book Seams Unlikely. I do look forward to the day when I read The Rest of the Story.
