Here’s an overview of the Click-Print-Stitch Skirt for an 18-inch Doll

Once designed, this adorable skirt takes a mere 30 minutes or less to stitch. The sewing is made simple with flat construction tips.

Supplies Needed:

  • Two 8-1/2″ x 11″ printable fabric sheets
  • 1/4 yd. coordinating fabric (lining)
  • 11″ elastic, 3/8″ wide

Helpful Notions:

  • Basic sewing supplies and thread
  • Optional: Flex ‘n Glide Bodkin
  • Optional: Wonder Clips
  • Optional: Sew-Safe Presser Foot

Note: Please read all instructions included within The Click-Print-Stitch Software before beginning. Use the width of the presser foot as the depth of the seam allowance—approximately 3/8″.

Instructions:

1. Click to select Skirt Pattern. Fill the pattern piece with your chosen design(s).

2. Following manufactures instructions for printable fabric sheets: Print, prepare, and cut two skirt patterns: One Skirt Front and one Skirt Back.

                                   Note From Team Nancy

Rather than cutting the elastic before inserting it into a garment, leave the elastic at a longer length, apply the elastic, and then trim it to size. This gives a longer end to hold onto, and it’s easier to position and stitch the elastic. It’s as simple as 1, 2, 3!

5. Pull elastic to form desired gathering. Stitch opposite end to secure elastic. Trim elastic to size.

IMG 2771

6. Repeat steps 3–6 for skirt back.

7. Meet skirt front and skirt back, right sides together, pin or clip. Stitch side seam.

IMG 2779

8. Turn finished skirt right side out.

How cute and easy for our little sewers. I’m sure my great grands will want to make them all. I think the skirt & top would be a good start.

I have three great grand daughters, two are already showing interest in sewing ….. one is practicing with yarns and shapes in machine to learn machine control. Pretty colors in bobbing and follow shapes. I am exited this software would really give the 10 year old some creativity control…. she would love it.

I started teaching my granddaughter when she was five to sew whenever we have time together as my son is in the military so I don’t see them in person often. Next time we are together I know she would love to make the shirt and skirt with her for her doll as our project.

My little granddaughter is expressing an interest in sewing. This would make a wonderful a wonderful gift with her very own sewing machine and a new doll. I would let her pick which project to do first.

I make dolls and their outfits for charity and this would make it so easy and so much faster than what I’ve been doing. I probably could double or triple what I make. Thanks!

I have twin granddaughters that are 7. I am teaching them how to sew. We have made bed spreads for their 18 inch dolls’ beds. Now we are moving on to clothes for the dolls. Love being a grandmother.

I think this is a great idea!! I will make some of these for Christmas presents for all of my nieces! I was surprised though to see the skirt pattern piece had one side more curved than the other. Also, seeing the finished pieces on the dolls the tops don’t look like they fit correctly. Maybe it is crooked on the doll? I’m sure I won’t get the prize, but I thought you might want to know.

Wow. This would be great for beginning 4-H sewers and for my granddaughter. I would probably start with the star skirt, because it dissimilar to the first year 4-H elastic waist skirt project.

My granddaughter has a couple of the 18 inch dolls and this would be a fun sewing project for her, for learning how to make clothes for the dolls with the fabric print and pattern… I have some of the fabric sheets for printing up same and just need this disk for doing same. She has a birthday coming up soon and this would be a nice present for her.

I was inspired by Nancy’s Book, I Sew For Fun, to teach our 6 year old granddaughter to make pillowcases. She had so much fun, she made two for her and two for her younger brother! She has 3 AG dolls and would LOVE to design fabric and make the summer crop pants and top for each of them.

My granddaughter and I would make a little shoulder strap bag for Julie, her American Girl doll that I gave to her for Christmas. She is eight, a perfect time to learn how to sew. Sewing for her doll with Grandma’s help would be a good place to start!
